Congrats to North Central and Wheaton on a good opening week!  Keep it rolling we'll see you in Week 11 or beyond.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Congrats to IWU and Elmhurst as well!  Keep the conference wins coming!!

North Park dropped a close 10-7 contest to Rose-Hulman.  There were numerous fumbles throughout the game due to the rain and slick conditions.  The Vikings scored a TD on their first possession and missed a great opportunity late in the game, but a receiver couldn't bring in a Shelby Wood strike in the end zone, and a field goal attempt was low (possibly tipped at the line of scrimmage -- I couldn't tell for sure).

Some bright spots for North Park were the running game and the offensive line, which did a pretty good job of protecting Wood.

The Vikings have a bye week before hosting Benedictine for homecoming on the 28th.

A very, very, very wet day in Wheaton today. Both teams had trouble handling the ball-- 11 total fumbles. Pete Ittersagen with a 65-yard punt return in the first half for Wheaton. Bethel scored on a nice pass play late in the first half- one of the few completed passes all afternoon. I would like to see these teams play again under better conditions, but Wheaton's defense came up huge and the Thunder deserved to win the game.

Random thought:

So what was up with Wheaton wearing the all white road uniforms for a home game?

It was a nasty day out there for both NCC and ONU. Imagine what it would have been like on a grass/muddy field. Apart from the fumbles, there had to be at least a dozen time where the QB or RBs just plain dropped the ball. The bottom line is that ONU is a quality opponent from the OAC. I wouldn't worry about the red zone offense too much. Some was due to the weather, some was to the quality of the opponent, and some was just because it was the first game . NCC won the time of possession - 37 to 23 minutes. They held ONU to 183 yards. I actually expected the final score to be closer, but it was a good game to open the season. I thought that NCC called a conservative game, even with the weather. ONU never got into any offensive rhythm. I was surprised that both teams didn't go down the field more. ONU did once and drew a  PI. NCC did twice, and the first one was a game changing play (31 yard gain on 3rd down).

Congrats to Wheaton and IWU. That's  three good wins for the CCIW.

A win is a win, no matter how you get it.

Wheaton offense gets 4 first downs for the game, around 140 total yards and scores 3 pts. And they win.

Carthage piles up nearly 650 yards offense and 70pts, but the D gives up 440 yards and 46 pts.  And they win.

Talk about two completely different games!  ;D

I agree with the other post.  Really can't tell much due to the weather conditions.  Yet there were just a few notes I had on the game.
1.   For the first time in years Wheaton did not have penalty problems for the first game of the year.
2.   The defensive line play was pretty good with a few exceptions.  On the inside draw plays the tackles were double teamed and looking at my recording the linebackers made some pursuit mistakes.  Some were due to the weather.  (Slipping- falling down etc..)
3.   Last year after Studebaker was out so was the pass rush.  They obviously did a lot of work on the pass rushing the whole d-line did some good pass rushing at one time or another using the swim technique.
4.   I couldn't tell much else due to the conditions.  Either team could have one this game and today they were evenly matched up.
PS. Congratulations to Wheaton NCC and IWU.  Go CCIW!

GREAT wins in the CCIW!  I am sure the NCC "O" will bail out the "D" one day....but
what a great game for the "D" today! Good to see that the "D"  boys bounced back after the change in coaching!  Good leadership in the older "D" players too.... AND THANKS for posting the LIVE STAT sites for all the teams.  At half time that was great.....SO lets all look forward to great games coming up in the CCIW conference this year!   CANNOT Wait!

Were you able to follow the livestats from Olivet? The campus wireless connection at the stadium was not working, so I had to rely on the mobile broadband connection in my cell phone ... Whenever, someone called me on my cell, the internet connection stopped until I completed the call ... I had the livestats on my screen, and it seemed to work.

Elmhurst 31
Olivet 14   Final

The score is a little misleading as this was a very close game for most of the tilt.  Weather conditions were awful as there was heavy rain (numerous Tornado warnings) for 80% of the game, but the guys seemed to play well on both ends.  Olivet has a solid team but turnovers and penalties really hurt the Comets.  Elmhurst defense posted 7 sacks and came up big when they had to.   Congrats to both teams for an exciting game despite the inclement weather.

Thanks also to the great Olivet staff and community for their hospitality and great accomodations.  I really look forward to coming up there for road games.

The big turning point in this game was when Olivet had cut to EC lead to 17-14, the Olivet defense had halted Elmhurst's drive and forced the Jays to kick a FG.  The FG attempt was missed, however the refs called running into the kicker (very questionable call which IMO should not have been made) which gave the Jays a first down which lead to a TD.
Olivet had a couple of turnovers that also negated good looking drives.  I thought EC's defense really stepped up to the plate late in the 3rd/early 4th when the team needed the D to step up.

C'mon New Tradition,  have a little more class than that!  :P
Coaches will come and go, but it's really the PLAYERS that won the game, not the coach.
Lester, Wienke, Thorne, etc. are all good coaches.  The EC job was a great opportunity for Tim so who wouldn't accept a position like that?

Quite the interesting game in Kenosha today. A lot of fun to watch, if you like a lot of scoring. The outcome certainly made the messy weather conditions worth sitting through. Terry Peebles spread offense looks potent to say the least. Record passing day 466 (yds), nearly record total offensive yards (641) and a point shy of school record game score for the afternoon (70). Almost 1100 yards in combined offense and 116 total points. I went to a football game and thought a basketball game broke out judging from the score. If the Carthage defense could of put together a few three-and-outs and shortened Hope's time of possession a little, there is no question this offense could have reached a 100 tally on this day. Quick strike potential. The offense has a lot of weapons. To many targets for a defense to focus on any particular player or possition. Offensive line did a great job giving QB Evan Jones (1st start) plenty of time to search through his targets. If this is a sign of things to come, I'm pretty excited about this season.

The defense left a lot of question marks. Yes they gave up over 400 yards of offense (over 300 in the air) and 46 points, but I'm certain some of that credit should go to a Hope offense that looked hard to stop most of the game. Carthage did create 4 turnovers which helped hold down Hope's scoring total a little. I have confidence the Red Men will sort out their issues and will perform more consistently against Lakeland next week.
