New Tradition

Hey I went there on my fourth grade field trip.  We were an uncontrollable hyper bunch after that day.   ;)  Guess seeing them ground wheat into flour by windmill will be a way of firing them up too???

Old Lady: What is a horse shoe?  What does a horse shoe do?  Are there any horse socks?  Is anybody listening to me?

Jaybird, I didn't criticize anybody.  I just made a comment.  I sure didn't mean to rile everyone up.  Boy, you're a sensitive group.  Now that would be criticism.

Orsky,

I don't know if sensitive is the right word to describe us.  Fanatical is more like it.  We are all trying to gain more information about the CCIW, which all of us love.  (Or at least certain parts of it for some of us  ;))  The purpose of this board is to give opinions and share information about the CCIW.  If you do give an opinion, though, it's best to have some semblance of a logical train of thought as to how you arrived at your opinion.  You hinted that you had some sort of inside information:

Not going to go into it.  Just making a comment.  We'll see if things get better.
and we were simply curious as to what the scoop was.

You have to understand where Jbird is coming from. See, he used to be just like you. Making "observations" with no substance. Years of training has brought him to the place where he actually adds value to the board by making informed observations backed with facts and/or knowledge. It seems odd but there is deep rooted wisdom to the Sagerian process many of us have adopted here on the board. So when we come across a "young jbird" we seek reform through a combination of ridicule and encouragement.

Carthage Fan once said to me "Help me Obi Wan Usee, you're my only hope". And now, roughly 14 months later, look at the past 2 pages....Carthage fan is making posts about his team, adding value, and whoopin it up just like one of the regulars. Even New Tradition, a recently reformed Sagerist, is jumping on the wagon.

As for Mr. Ypsi, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.  :-\

Come on Orsky, you are a youngin, but there is a bright future for you here if you just stick to "the way".  ;)

Although Carthage struggled to hold onto the ball offensively against Lakeland, I'm still impressed with their production and quick strike potential. 517 total yards, 426 yds in the air. When you turn the ball over 5 times in a game you usually loose. Carthage showed some grit fighting through their turnovers to still win a game.

Tailgater the turnovers were killers as was the short field the D worked with.  Give credit to Lakeland they had something to prove and came out hard against the Red Men who were flat at the start.  D stepped up in the 2nd half.  O'Donnell's kick return was huge.   9 penalties for 161 yds against the Red Men, some were pretty awful calls, some against Lakeland totally missed, but, have to play through that, no excuses.  Take the W, move on an learn from this, don't underestimate any team.  Big week this week against the Campbell Fighting Camels.  D1 non-athletic scholarship program, no football since 1959,  0-4 this year, can't let up.

This should be an interesting game for the Redmen.  They are coming off a nice win, but I am sure that it did not happen in the fashion that they expected or would have liked, But a W is a W.  Lakeland is always a tough place to play.  Also, playing a school like Campbell will be difficult when the only real thing we know about them is that they are the Fighting Camels!

Go Redmen!  I can't wait to watch the game from the hill with my cooler filled to the brim with adult beverages!

HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

Good point, usee.  There is plenty of joking around on this board, but when it comes to actual football games and info, facts are the way we roll.

orsky,

I don't think you "riled" anyone.  I believe 3 or 4 of us just requested some information in response to your post.  As stated already, most here are sticklers for facts and details to backup opinion or statements.

We are merely looking for detail to make the dialogue more interesting.  There would be little discussion on this board if everyone posted simple comments or opinions with little to back it up.

Also, playing a school like Campbell will be difficult when the only real thing we know about them is that they are the Fighting Camels!

Campbell played Birmingham-Southern (DIII provisional) and Methodist.  You can get the game summary by clicking on the score of the games here
Interestingly enough, B-S needed an exemption from the NCAA to play a week earlier than other D3's.

modified to go to schedule page because specific game summary from Campbell's website no longer worked

The earth is flat.

Wheaton will finish with at least 9 victories.

Blue is the best color...

Orsky, yes I did not slap you with the steel paddle, it just seemed like you were hiding some facts that you didn't want to spill out.  This is not the place to be if you want to keep something a secret.  And, half the time people think they have a secret, more often than not somebody else already knows.  Thanks Usee, yes I have "graduated" from the Sagerian school of positive posting.

Just minding my P's and Q's as a young weedhopper.  Recall I earlier mentioned that I have a son playing at Wheaton.  I don't want to cross any boundaries for him or with the coaching staff.  So I only made a comment.

I also don't want to violate any HIPPA regulations or impune the chastity of the aforementioned individuals.  I therefore now move back under my rock and read with wide-eyed wonder the wit and wisdom of the board sages.  Thank you for allowing me to eat the crumbs at your table.

I'd rather not talk about that now...   :P

orsky, seriously I understand your desire to be careful with sensitive information (to respect players and coaches).  I was in the same boat for a long time as I was a Wheaton assistant coach for 5 years.  However that was nearly 15 years ago and my level of direct contact with the coaching staff has dropped considerably due to an increasingly busy life and more than likely because of my posting on this board.   :-\

I do have some regular contact with some of the assistant coaches and I often have information before it is publically available.  Though I would never, ever post anything that has not been made public by the Wheaton coaches or school, out of respect for the coaches.  Plus I don't want to become a pariah within the Wheaton community.   :-[

I have learned in these cases it is often best not to post anything or only post a teaser if the information is imminent.  Posting that you have "information about such and such, but can talk about it now..." generally doesn't sit well with some.

Don't allow some of the recent posts to push you back under a rock and only lurk.  I don't think any of this was meant to get rid of you.  I would encourage you to continue to participate based on what you see during the season throughout the CCIW.  The more people involved in the discussion, the better...
