you forgot:

The school where Mugsy received his Master's degree...... :P

lol.

Seven years of school down the drain... :-\

I still find it amusing that I receive letters from NCC soliciting money for the athletic program, particularly the football program.  They have given me the opportunity to become a supporter of the program on a variety of levels - $100, $250, $500, $1000 or $5000.  I get all of the recaps and season previews, yet I never attended a single event (athletic or otherwise) other than class.

Guess they don't know of my allegiance to Wheaton as a player and coach.  Gotta hand it to them... they are persistant.

Add to it that we receive letters requesting support to North Park since my wife is an alum and we are getting hit up from 3 of 8 CCIW schools for monitary support.

New rankings around out:

Wheaton #6
North Central #8

IWU - Others recieving votes.

I would love to see Wheaton and North Central run the table to set up their matchup in Wheaton!

That's not impossible but won't be easy.

NCC has:

v Millikin
@NPU
v Carthage

Wheaton has:
v. NPU
@Augie
v Millkin

usee,

Since you typed this only about 45 minutes before laying out the rules for AndOne, I trust you dinged your own karma. ;D

I've never seen that before. I have no idea what you are talking about.

My thoughts on the IWU/Carthage contest:

It is the 2 top offenses (for now--I actually view Wheaton -8 miles as the best offense) statistically in the CCIW as well as the 2 worst defenses. That would seem to indicate we will have some high scoring action but several observations are worth noting in this contest.

I think the D is better than their stats show. Turn over the Ball 7,5, and 4 times in their past 3 games, its gonna put your D in tough spots.  In my humble, but Biased, opinion their D has played well given the amount of turn overs they have had to overcome.

Quote from: usee on September 30, 2008, 09:57:57 AM
-Both teams have turned the ball over (did I mention these are the 2 worst teams in TO ratio also? IWU -5, Carthage -9) but Carthage seems to be getting worse, not better. You can't just hope the turnovers go away.
This is the real key to the game.

As far as the regular season, which is set to get under way on Saturday, here is how I would handicap the field, along with question marks:

6. Carthage-The spread offense and a small but aggressive defense are their signature lines and their achilles heel. The Redmen have felt the growing pains so far this season with inconsistency and turnovers. They also are not forcing turnovers the way they were the last few years which had been a signature card for the Redmen D. If they don't solve the turnover problem and find a way to be more consistent in all phases this may be a disappointing year in Kenosha. On the other hand, if they are clicking, they have enough talent to surprise anyone in the league on a given Saturday.

Well Said.  I think you are right on here!
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

"The school from Naperville"  is NORTH CENTRAL that hard to type?  ::)   ???

I will remind everyone here just this once:

When the regular season begins and up until the time the battle for the Little Brass Bell is decided, any mention of said school will only include reference points based on geography or status. Acceptable references include:

-The school from Naperville
-Those guys 8 miles South
-41.775376,-88.143667
-The Little Brass Bell Losers
-The school with the good track team

Any deviation from these strict regulations will result in -K for first offense, suspension of access to the pickem's for offense #2, and eviction from the CCIW board forever for a 3rd offense.

Hopefully that clarifies things for you.  :-X

I believe I actually recieved a +K for my post, even though I referred to North Central as...well..North Central. The exception to the rule? Probably.

And boom goes the dynamite.

Since ONU and Bethel seemed (then) to be the marquee wins for the conference, good thing we went 19-5! ;)  I imagine we'll remain about 5th in the view of conference-rankers.  Very good, but not totally premiere.

I just noticed that only 5 of the CCIW opponents 24 preseason opponents have a winning record and those were 4 of the 5 losses. Another way to say this is:

Against teams with a winning record, the CCIW went 1-4 this preseason.  >:(

Tidbits of interest from CCIW Notes:

Notable NCAA Division III Rankings (as of September 27)
Team Rankings
Wheaton - Pass Efficiency Defense (3rd)
Elmhurst - Rushing Defense (6th) 45.0 ypg.
Augustana - Punt Returns (1st) 44.0 avg.
Wheaton - Scoring Defense (2nd) 5.67 ppg.
North Central - Net Punting (3rd) 39.67 avg.
Carthage - Total Offense (1st) 565.33 ypg.
Wheaton - Total Defense (3rd) 186.0 ypg.

Individual Rankings
Matt D'Angelo (EC) - Scoring (6th) 42 points
Pete Ittersagen (WC) - Punt Return (3rd) 26.29 avg.
Evan Jones (CC) - Total Offense (2nd) 389 yds. per gm.
Danny O'Donnell (CC) - INTs (3rd) 1.0 per game;
Kickoff Return (3rd) 36.71 avg.
Nick Merchut (CC) - Rec. Yds. Per Gm. (6th) 147.67 avg.
Randy Wright (EC) - Sacks (4th) 1.67 per game.

Some of these are a bit deceiving.  For instance if you look at the cumulative CCIW stats, it list Augustana as having only 1 punt return in 3 games for 44 yards.  Hence they are #1 in punt return average.  I find it remarkable they only have one punt return and that somewhat skews the value of the stat.

Wheaton, Elmhurst make it six in a row
Both Elmhurst and Wheaton finished 3-0 in non-conference play for the sixth
straight season. Elmhurst has not lost a non-conference game since a 46-40 defeat at the hands of the University of Chicago on September 21, 2002. Wheaton has not lost a conference game since the 2002 opener, a 23-16 loss to Alma. As a conference, the CCIW finished 19-5 in non-conference play, its best mark since going 21-3 in 2005.

Mr. Ypsi

Mugsy,  you omitted Kraig Ladd's 1st in the nation in TD passes (unless someone caught him Saturday while IWU was idle).

I've got an information request for anyone who can help.  I like to follow ANY conference team who does really well at the national level in the 'minor' sports.  We've got a board for Track&Field to follow NCC and the IWU women, and d3soccer.com to follow the teams from 'that school 8 miles north of NCC' (sorry, usee - the devil made me do it! ;D), but does anyone know where to find a website for d3 golf?  The Titan women this weekend shoot for their 7th straight conference title, and are starting to make noise nationally, finishing 4th last year.

I didn't miss it.  I merely did a cut & paste from the CCIW Notes press release published by the conference to the D3Football site.  I don't have the time to research all categories where CCIW teams and players rank nationally.   :-\

As ypsi knows, we covered that omission last week. He obviously hasn't written to his SID yet.

LOL and +k, Mugs.  I've barely done didley yet, but I'll help you all you want (YOU focus on the baby!).  (Oh, and I decided to open an MIAA pickems if anyone is interested - after all, seems like half our non-con games were against those guys[and I live there]! ;))

It's apparently a CCIW oversight, not the IWU SID.  The data is there in the NCAA files.
