-IWU secondary-this was an injury decimated group in games 1 and 2 and began to get healthy in game 3. with a week off it would appear they will be as strong as they have been for this shootout.

This is correct.  Four of the Titans top DB's missed games with injury early on...

Roman Hunter (Jr. - Gordon Tech HS) - missed first 2
Lucas Spoerl (So. - Oldsmar, FL) - missed first 2
Adam Crouch (Jr. - Sycamore) - missed first
Ryan Hopp (Jr. - Hinsdale South) - missed first 2

Freshman Erich Bushong (Normal West) had to be thrown into the fire and has played a bunch.

As I understand it, the Titans are as healthy in the secondary as they've been all year...I believe those 4 guys mentioned above are all ready to go Saturday.

QB Kraig Ladd is healthy and should start vs the Red Men.

If the Titans lose Saturday, it will not be because of injuries.

But What do I know? The OAC pickem guru, HSCoach, has IWU as a 6.5pt underdog at home.  8) ;D

Usee---

I'll give you a bump here----You probably know as much or more about the CCIW as HS Coach as evidenced by your team by team analysis above.   :)

"The school from Naperville"  is NORTH CENTRAL that hard to type?  ::)   ???

You're talking to a man who is in complete denial of the fact that the regular season started more than three weeks ago, so you're probably wasting your breath on this one. ;)

The school where Mugsy received his Master's degree...... :P

lol.

Seven years of school down the drain... :-\

I still find it amusing that I receive letters from NCC soliciting money for the athletic program, particularly the football program.  They have given me the opportunity to become a supporter of the program on a variety of levels - $100, $250, $500, $1000 or $5000.  I get all of the recaps and season previews, yet I never attended a single event (athletic or otherwise) other than class.

Guess they don't know of my allegiance to Wheaton as a player and coach.  Gotta hand it to them... they are persistant.

Add to it that we receive letters requesting support to North Park since my wife is an alum and we are getting hit up from 3 of 8 CCIW schools for monitary support.

I've never been subjected to fundraising solicitations from another CCIW school, but I've been witness to the next best worst thing. As the chairman of my church I have the authority to rummage through the church's mail. I have thus become aware over the past year and a half that the church is on the Wheaton mailing list to receive the school's alumni magazine. Since it comes addressed to the church without any individual's name on it, the church's office manager (NPU '00) and I (NPC '83) have speculated at length as to what infidel could've taken it upon him- or herself to introduce such insidious literature within our walls. We've wondered if it was our former pastor, a Wheaton grad, but since he never mentioned his Wheaton ties to anyone in the church unless prompted -- and his three children all went elsewhere to college -- I kinda doubt that it was him.

(Since he's now the pastor of Dennis Prikkel's church up in Mount Prospect, I wonder if Dennis has taken to wearing a "Kiss My Wheaton" button on his lapel on Sunday mornings.)

At any rate, while I was upset when I first noticed the Wheaton alumni magazine sitting brazenly in our church mailbox with the church's name on the address label, I have since decided to have some fun with it. The office manager and the new pastor (NPC '90, NPTS '08) and I are open to any suggestions as to what form of ritual destruction -- whether running it page-by-page through our Fellowes paper shredder, setting the church's grill in the middle of the parking lot and putting the magazine to the torch while all of the church's NPU alumni bask in the warming glow generated by the flames, or dropping it in a nursery crib and letting some teething baby gum the thing beyond all recognition -- we should employ to eliminate this dastardly attempt at Wheatie propagandistic infiltration of our congregation.

Take out the little insert card requesting a donation thats inside the magazine, fill in a fictitious name and address, and drop it in the mail back to Wheaton.   ;D   8)

actually recommending a student who goes to Point Barrow Christian Academy in Alaska and suggesting a recruiting trip to the school would probably cause more damage.

"The school from Naperville"  is NORTH CENTRAL that hard to type?  ::)   ???

I will remind everyone here just this once:

When the regular season begins and up until the time the battle for the Little Brass Bell is decided, any mention of said school will only include reference points based on geography or status. Acceptable references include:

-The school from Naperville
-Those guys 8 miles South
-41.775376,-88.143667
-The Little Brass Bell Losers
-The school with the good track team

Any deviation from these strict regulations will result in -K for first offense, suspension of access to the pickem's for offense #2, and eviction from the CCIW board forever for a 3rd offense.

Hopefully that clarifies things for you.  :-X

Hello D3 fans, it has been a busy fall....

To be fair Usee...I think we need to find a reference for the team north of North Central...

"The sound heard after lightning"
"Billy Graham's school"
"The house that Swider built"
"The Crusaders"
"The school with the good girls soccer program"
"Team Ittersagen"

The same rules apply, but I don't think I will be very strict in enforcing them.

Greg - at least you were the church chair when a Wheatie pastor left - my wife was church chair when we hired him.

we both can take solace in the fact that neither your Wheatie pastor, nor both of mine learned their preaching skills at Wheaton.

I heard the Wheaton president Duane Lutfin preach this summer at Camp of the Woods - Oy!

Good thing he's a college president.

Just for the record, I liked and respected our former pastor. And the fact that he never brought up his alma mater in conversation is one of the things that I liked and respected the most about him. ;) :D

Tidbits of interest from CCIW Notes:

Augustana - Punt Returns (1st) 44.0 avg.

Some of these are a bit deceiving.  For instance if you look at the cumulative CCIW stats, it list Augustana as having only 1 punt return in 3 games for 44 yards.  Hence they are #1 in punt return average.  I find it remarkable they only have one punt return and that somewhat skews the value of the stat.

Also mentioned...

Quote
Wheaton, Elmhurst make it six in a row
Both Elmhurst and Wheaton finished 3-0 in non-conference play for the sixth
straight season. Elmhurst has not lost a non-conference game since a 46-40 defeat at the hands of the University of Chicago on September 21, 2002. Wheaton has not lost a conference game since the 2002 opener, a 23-16 loss to Alma. As a conference, the CCIW finished 19-5 in non-conference play, its best mark since going 21-3 in 2005.

[1st bold]  If they're gonna allow one-time occurrences as 'highest average' they'll end up with things as ridiculous as what I found on the U of Michigan site tonight: Yards per Carry, Mesko, 13.  Mesko is the punter!  A fake punt yielded 13 yards - let's see a real running back top that average! ;D

[2nd bold]  CCIW headquarters needs a proof-reader!  I'm fairly certain Wheaton has lost several conference games since 2002 - I especially relished the last game last year! :D

Is one of them Paul Thompson by chance?  He was the punter\kicker at Wheaton during a few years that I was playing at Wheaton.  He is a few years older than I.  Great person.

I talk to or see him several times a year as my brother-in-law is a good friend of his, plus I have relatives at the Covenant Church in Mt. Prospect.

And for my 'once a year or so' post here...

I work for a 'rather large insurance company based in Bloomington, IL', which has some rather..strong..connections to IWU.  Which made it weird when I, who went to Wheaton, got a letter through interoffice mail asking me about supporting..IWU.

Of course, my only connection to IWU is my wife, who went there (and also works here).  Skipping the fact that it was sent through interoffice mail, I was shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you that they thought I would support IWU.

Sadly we've moved away from our tradition of visiting the Wheaton/IWU game when it's in town and switching sides during halftime..;-)

Whew!  It's been awhile (the real world is killing me  ;) ) but I can finally comment on the Elmhurst/Chicago game.
Overall it was a sloppy game from both sides.  Not what I was hoping for heading into the CCIW slate.
The Jays' defense was ok and at times were pretty stingy.  The one caution I had was our secondary did luck out with a couple of Chicago overthrows, otherwise there could have been some problems.
UC has a pretty good QB but no O-Line to say the least.  Many times it look like a jamboree from the EC D-Line as Chicago was helpless.
Augie is going to be the strongest defense Elmhurst has seen to date.  I think both match up like a mirror with many similarities.  While both teams have some talent on offense, I do think this is going to be a low scoring game.

Now that the non conference portion is over, I look at the records and see that the CCIW has done very well.  Most are 3-0 or 2-1 which tells me that there are a lot of quality athletes and playmakers on most/every team.  I still think Wheaton and North Central are your 1 & 2, but it's not going to be an easy 7 week joyride for either team.

Now I have to say it:   GO CUBS GO!   :D
