I don't know how many go on the "Daily Dose", but some idiot ;) thinks Wheaton is on upset alert:

http://www.d3football.com/dailydose/2008/10/10/turning-point/

HSC, you are no idiot. I remember you being the one who picked Carthage by 6.5 last weekend in Bloomington!! I am only disappointed you are calling for this upset. That said, as Mugsy indicated, it won't be much of an upset if Augie does pull it off. Remember two years ago Wheaton went to Rock Island ranked #19, 5-0, averaging 32pts a game and lost 17-14 to the unranked Vikings.

Wheaton needs to score early and often to avoid a similar type of game this week.

Ugh, Mrs. matblake has just informed me that she has a huge work project that is expedited in nature.  Result=She uses the computer all day tomorrow.  I know she's going to get sick of the question, "Are you ready for a break yet?"  :'(

Good idea.  I was still in my disbelief stage, hadn't moved on to the problem solving stage yet.  Thanks for the push, usee.

Of course, the local library probably doesn't allow beer consumption.  Would your marriage survive a suggestion that Mrs. matblake go to the library? ;D :o

Usee/MatBlake-  I guess that's one good thing about my Fiance/future wife in that she is a football fanatic and an EC professor,  so she's always inclined to come to the games.  She even helps me with equipment setup.   :)
The only football negative is that she's a Packers fan.  ???

Elmhurst traditionally has been a commuter school, however within the last 10 years EC has made strong efforts to even out the commuters with permanent residents.  I was a Freshman in 1998 and since then EC has built 3 new dorms and the student body has almost doubled.

Yes, Carthage is Elmhurst's arch and greatest rival.  During my 4 years we had some pretty good battles.  It's the one game, I remember my teammates circling as the "had to win" game. ala Green Bay with the Bears.  Couple keys for Elmhurst-

1) Goes without saying that for Elmhurst to have a chance at the W, they NEED TO RUN THE BALL!  You have 3 backs so I hope EC tries to establish some rushing.

2) Penalties-  Over 200 yds in penalties the last 2 weeks, makes  life difficult.  We're halfway through the season and the penalties should be fewer and farther between.

3) Turnovers   similar to point #2 that you want to be forcing them and not coughing them up.

4) and probably the most important is getting a pass rush on the Carthage QB.  I see Carthage's QB likes to air the ball deep downfield and he has a full arsenal of WR's, which makes it really important for the DL to penetrate in the backfield.

Can Elmhurst win this game?  I think so, as they have the talent,  however the inconsistencies make me wonder which team is going to show up tomorrow.

Tailgater-  Can I assume you're going to be at your usual campsite in the meadow of Art Keller on the northwest side?

*Just a reminder that the Elmhurst vs. Carthage game can be heard online at http://www.wrse.com   or traditional radio on 88.7 FM  (locally)

Absolutely....I'll be there about 10:00 a.m. I look forward to you stopping by for a pre-broadcast ice-breaker. Wow...surprised to see the penalty yardage for Elmhurst. Combined with the Red Men penalty count this might be an important stat that has an impact on the game. I can tell you the Red Men have a little righting of a couple of wrongs on their mind as the Bluejays have succeeded the past 2 years to win this match-up. You'll see a totally different offense which is entertaining to watch. I hope the Elmhurst DB's are well rested as they well be tested all day long.

Well Son....since no one else has chimed in on your question I'll offer my thought. I'd have to say it won't happen this season (no disrespect intended). I do agree their best shot may be against Millikin. Until NP can develop a roster with a significant number of upperclassman and the experience that brings to the field it may be a while for them to crack the CCIW win column.... that is unless they have an amazing talented recruiting class soon. I don't see that materializing under current circumstances though.

Tailgater I'll try and stop by and say hello.... I'll be there cooking a large pot of chili!  then start consuming many many adult beverages on the hill!

Reidy.... See you on the 15th!

Hey redmen04:
Speaking of chili, if you plan to attend the Carthage/ Augie game on 10/25 The Carthage Football Parents Group is having a chili cook-off contest. I'm honored to have been asked to help judge the event. You may want to consider an entry. Hope to see ya tomorrow. I'll be by at the Red  tent with Carthage logo on all sides.
GO RED MEN!

TitanFan42

I don't see a lot of Millikin posters here.
(At least I don't recognize any)
What is their take on Saturday's IWU / Millikin tilt ?

There has never been more than one or two short-term Blue fans on either this board or the basketball board.  We speculate that the internet hasn't reached Decatur yet. ;D

My spousal unit grew up in Wisconsin as a fanatic Packer fan. After 28 years, I have "educated" and "converted" her to the point she actually roots for the Bears except when they play the Packers. On those occasions, she is exiled to the soundproof room in the basement!   :-X
