Defense needs to buckle their chin straps and get it done.

I'm not trying to be harsh to these two young students who are attempting to call this game...but dear god...can we please get an Alum in the booth to help describe what is going on and to provide some meaningful color commentary?  This has bugged me for years.

Carthage driving but using a ton of time.  Carthage around midfield 25 sec left.

Carthage is at the NCC 28 now ... close enough to heave it into the endzone.

Game over.  Cards win.  Whew!  Need to button it up for next week.  I'm not optimistic about facing Wheaton after this sloppy performance.

Anytime you can cough up 191 yards on 15 penalties and still walk away with the W, it's a good day.

Be that as it may...I hate to say it, but Go Wheaties! (this weekend only)

If they win then I suppose I'll have to make the trip to Wheaton next weekend.
You win! You always do!

But Greg, that's very uncharacteristic of a John Thorne coached team!  ;) 8) ......they usually only have 10 penalties for 100 yds.  :o

That's a good one. I was surprised that the impression was that NCC commits few penalties because their penalty total has always been high. Today, it was ridiculous. Almost all of the penalties were really stupid. Several on punt returns, offensive facemasking at a the end of a good run, delay of game while in punt formation, late hit on the sidelines.

I was surprised at the yardage by Carthage - it seemed like a lot more. Good job on eliminating turnovers (the second one was on the last play I think).

I don't think Naperville school fans should analyze this game too much or take anything away from it. I thought it was an incredible effort by Carthage to limit their mistakes and give them a chance to win. Carthage showed they can play with anyone today. Naperville will be ready to play next week and this game won't have any impact on next weeks game (other than injuries). Should the Thunder win tonight (which we all expect) you will see a well played, hard fought game next week with two teams going toe to toe.

The North Central - Carthage was a fantastic game, wildly entertaining. It was the CCIW is about this season. With the exception of North Park, every game is going to be tough.

However, I think there is a lot that North Central can take away from this game. First, Aaron Fanthorpe returned to action. And even though he didn't lead North Central to a lot of points, you can see the difference he makes. Second, the defense held the Carthage passing offense well below their season average. Third, the defense held Carthage under 2 yards per carry rushing  (the stats I saw were 31 attempts for 56 yards). This will be most interesting aspect next week. Fourth, North Central showed the ability to come up with a game winning drive in the 4th quarter against a quality opponent.
