Division III's version of the Devin Hester factor? How about the flip side of that? Wheaton's punter V. the NCC returner?

If North Central returns punts like they did last week, add 10 yards to every Crusaders punt for the holding or block in the back call that will result. >:( >:(

Wheaton's put big $$ in PR with the name change and all, we don't need anyone thinking we're anti-Muslim  :)
It would be like referring to North Park University as North Park COLLEGE

bully, if you do not know this already... I believe this is the way posters from the Naperville school are attempting to respond in kind to not recognizing, saying or thinking about the official school names.

Usee, matblake and myself have been referring to "that school" (McCain-esque debate reference) as "Naperville school", "school with a good cross country program", "College 8 miles to the South", etc...

This is their not-so original way at getting back to us.  Doesn't bother me one bit since when I attended Wheaton, we were the Crusaders.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I'll desist.

I'm old enough that when I played they were the Crusaders.

In fact, my biggest rivals where both the Crusaders - Brother Rice HS and Wheaton.

Nice analysis Usee, I wouldn't fallen off my chair if you have predicted a victory by North Central College over the Crusaders.  ;)

Actually, my Wheaton bias shows up in the score prediction only. Everything else I believe to be true regardless of the outcome.  ;)

However, there's a facet to the game that you omitted. One of the intriguing matchups is Puchylowski vs. Ittersagen. North Central has enjoyed an advantage in the kicking game throughout this season. Last week, for example, Puchylowski averaged 45 yards per punt (compared to Cathage at 33) with a couple inside the 20. In last year's games, Ittersagen had a couple very good returns that changed field position.

If the running game for both teams is stymied, we may see a half dozen or more punts on both sides.

I didn't omit the kicking game, it was inclusive in my analysis though not explicit. Ittersage primarily shows his stuff in the kicking game since most teams don't throw to his side. (I will say there have been more balls completed with him in coverage than I remember from last year--I would like to see him be more aggressive on defense and make his presecnce known more). He is the primary punt/kick returner as has been noted. He also is the bullet on the punt team and the punts that opponents have actually caught haven't gone very far. I have seen him win games with his coverage of punts so that will be an interesting side bar. As a punt returner you should be more concerned with the coverage than the punter. If they don't show up in mass as the ball arrives you will see what you saw last year, ittersagen will return 1 or more for good yardage. that's what he does.

I will say this, Wheaton has won the special teams battle in every game this year so far (in fact they beat Bethel on special teams). This game will be their toughest test as I see Naperville's teams are as good as Wheaton's in my mind. Ittersagen is the wild card but 8 Mile island's return man isn't too shabby either.

One of our HS rivals was the Crusaders of Rockford Lutheran. Unfortunately by the time I got to NCC Wheaton had already changed their name to pay tribute to Garth Brooks.

I just realized today there is only 1 CCIW team with a winning record against Wheaton......anyone?

The answer is Augustana at 29-22-2.

Millikin is locked up at 27-27 all.

IWU is close at 27-24-2 in Wheaton's favor.

51-36-3.

This was a very close series until the late 80's, 90's and early this decade.  Obviously it has become an all out fight over the past 5 years.

Around the Region article is out (finally--last again) and highlights the Bell game. Link on the front page. Also has a quote as to how Thorne will address the Ittersagen issue.

Comprendelo Mugsy,

I don't think my tone came thru although I tried to use the smiley.  I was not offended the least as I too graduated under the mounted knight mascot.   Just used an opportunity to dig a little into mr Dennis and I see I was successful :)
