Does anyone know why Fanthorpe isnt playing?  He didn't get hurt against Wheaton last weekend
Aaron Fanthorpe has Mono.  There is no timetable for his return.  This is a big blow to the Cardinals with a big game next week against Augie! :(

Since IWU was yielding 22.6 ppg and NCC already has 30 at the half, they appear to be 'muddling through' somehow! :(

Elmhurst scores on a 47 pass to go up 36-16 with a little over 4 minutes left.  Big upset today at Langhorst.  Unless Augie is able to do the same next week in Naperville, looks like the CCIW will be sending only one team to the playoffs.

Augie rolls NPU 52-0.  288 yds rushing and 225 yards passing.  Podulka goes 7-7 for 171 yards and 3 TD's.  NPU throws 4 picks.  Offense has played pretty well the last 3 weeks, however, I'm not overly confident about how they will fare next week against NCC.  Hoping I'll be able to make it to the game and for an Augie upset.

Final at Langhorst - Elmhurst 37 -  Wheaton 23.  I don't think many people saw this one coming.  Obvious from the stats that 6 turnovers and no rushing attack (51 yards on 25 carries) were a big reason Wheaton lost this game.

I listened to the 1st Half.  NCC is a tremendous team, but IWU made it real easy on the Cards today.  After forcing a punt on the opening possession of the game, the Titans fumbled on their first play from scrimmage (on about their own 7) and NCC scored an easy TD.  Then later in the 1st Q, Kraig Ladd threw an INT on the first play of a possession...NCC scored a TD after getting it at about IWU's 30.

The Titans scored to make it 20-7 with 1:46 to play in the 1st Half.  With IWU getting the ball to start the 3rd Q, I felt like maybe IWU was in the game.  Then, incredibly, North Central scored 10 points in the final 1:46.  They marched right down the field in 1:32 for a TD -- this drive shocked me because IWU's D had actually been good in the 1st Half.  Then on the kickoff, the Titans fumbled on their own 28.  NCC completed a quick pass and then made a FG to make it 30-7 at the half (when it looked like it was going to be 20-7).

3 times in the 1st Half, IWU either turned the ball over on the first play of the possession or before even getting the ball (the fumble on the kickoff).  It was just a complete trainwreck for the Titans today.

Curious to hear from NCC fans about today's game.  As Titan Q points out, IWU made it pretty easy on NCC the first half with the turnovers.  Looks like that continued in the second half as IWU ended the game with 7 turnovers.  NCC was well under their average offensive output with only 281 yards in total offense.  Based on the big halftime lead (and the fact that Fanthorpe is out), I'm assuming that NCC was fairly conservative on offense in the second half.  Would like to know if that was the case.

Obviously, if you lose the reigning CCIW OPOY, it's going to hurt your offense.  Would like to know from the NCC faithful, how big of a drop off do you think the offense will see with Kniss at QB instead of Fanthorpe?

Just returned from NC game...
Great defensive showing by the Cards.  Besides the one drive in the 2nd quarter where IWU went 90 some yards for a touchdown on 10 plays, NC would give up a few plays and then buckle down.

There is no chance to beat NC if you turn the ball over 7 times or more like IWU did.  6 maybe.. 8)

Kyle played well today.  Besides the two INT's, he made good decisions and protected the ball when he ran.  Next week will be a tough hard hitting game against Augie.  It will probably end up being the best game in the CCIW this year.

Fanthorpe will probably not be available till the playoffs with Mono.  It was extremely important for Kyle to have a good game today and he did and the Cardinals should rally behind #4.

Once again, you can't say enough about Wenger and this defense,  they are everywhere and there in a hurry.
Wenger had 11 tackles, a sack, 2 picks for 46 yards returned and a QB hurry (note:  The QB hurry, he hurdled the running back, fell down and still chased Ladd towards the IWU sideline and got a hit on him as he was throwing...freakish)

Usee-  Very funny  :D
I hope we can give Wheaton a fight.  The injury bug is really taking a toll on EC.

jaybird gets this week's 'Lou Holtz award'! :D

I think Elmhurst's defense has been very disruptive at times this season. If they can do that to Wheaton's offense and force them into turnovers that result in points, they will have a good chance. They need to put the pressure on the Wheaton Offense, however, because if Wheaton gets out to a lead, it will be very hard for Elmhurst to play catch up against this defense IMO.

I now know what a "Blitz Creed" is. Its the blood oath the Elmhurst defense took in the locker room before taking the field today. A prophet is never welcome in his home town but Elmhurst played exactly the kind of game they needed to play and they took it to the Thunder. 6 turnovers and an embarrassing effort from Wheaton today and they got what they deserved.

Hats off to Tim Lester and the BlueJays. They had a good plan and they executed well. I thought Wheaton played the game way too tight and made an insurmountable number of mistakes. 4 turnovers in the first half alone. They were handled pretty good by an active Elmhurst defensive front. Randy Wright is a really good player and made a lot of plays. He can run and gets to the football. Kudyba made plenty of great decisions. Ittersagen was horrible. He gave up 3 huge plays that was as much of a reason as any Wheaton lost. He fumbled a punt right before halftime with the Thunder down 7 that would have given them a chance to go get points. He gave up a huge 3rd down 15 yd out cut in M2M coverage that led to Elmhurst's 4th TD and he was beaten badly on 3rd and long on a simple out cut in M2M for Elmhursts final TD that he then tried to break in front of the ball and it went for a long TD. Langs was not much better. After an early INT he was beaten regularly. Wheaton was without their best Dlineman, Thiessen and he is done for the year from the NCC game. But Elmhurst came out and took it to the Thunder and definately deserved to win. I would say the score was closer than the game in fact.

Wheaton needs to take a look in the mirror. I thought they have played reactively instead of proactively these last two weeks. IWU and Carthage will see this tape and they better find an answer or 6-4 is a real possibility. An embarrassing performance by the Thunder today.

Jbird,

I certainly deserve whatever it is I have coming this week after teasing you. The ghosts of 1999 were all over the place at Langhorst field today. That's 2 weeks in a row the ringing of a bell has haunted me. :(

... not to mention very handsome.

Congratulations to Coach Lester and his program. He's definitely putting that program in the right direction, in the next few years they're going to be competing for the conference every year.... and hopefully finally getting over that 6-4 hump.

Cards played very tough on defensive today. Despite throwing a couple of picks Kyle looked like a starting QB in the CCIW. Fanthorpe maybe out another week due to Mono so Auggie will be some good game experience for Kyle.
IWU's pass game is very crisp, Ceicel is a very talented wide out.

With the scores I've seen around the nation, I wouldn't be surprised if NC drops in the polls... (like it really matters)

I hope NCC sees the Augie game as a little more important then game experience for Kniss. They will have their hands full with Augie who beat IWU and Carthage on the road and is playing very well right now. This game is for the CCIW title and the AQ. Ncc has handled augie the last 2 yrs and may think they have an edge looking at the wheaton augie score, but they better be very hungry for this win because Augie could definitely beat NCC if they don't play well

Sorry JB,

I don't see how the Elmhurst O-line keeps the Wheaton D-line from dominating this game.  Wheaton's D-line is extremely good and their ability to control the line will force Elmhurst to throw.  There's a big difference in an offense when you know they are going to have to throw the ball.  I don't see Elmhurst staying within 3 td's.  Just MHO.  :)

uhhhhhhh...uhhhh sorry Jaybird....   :-[ :-[ :-[

A bit of a strange feeling at NCC today.  Definitely felt like a letdown week.  Even though we won, I didn't feel the energy that has been there all season.  Kyle played well.  He made one questionable throw in my opinion but managed the game quite well and hung in and made some nice throws.  Wenger was his usual self and came up big to stop a couple of Weenie drives.   A couple of stupid penalties again for the Cards.  Long snaps were sluggish and one punt should have been completely blocked and was only partially blocked.  Should be a battle next week against Augie.  I hate even talking about the playoffs because we have a couple of huge obstacles ahead.  Good job getting another win.  I love beating Wesleyan!!!!
