I am glad Wheaton doesn't have to face Rupp this week. 7 td's and 500+ yds? Oh my! It may be a shootout in Naperville of basketball score proportions.

Funny you mentioned basketball score in your comment.  It just so happens the grizzlies mens basketball team will be making a trip up to NCC this saturday as well.  Tip-off is at 7:30pm.  I set the over/under for all four teams combined at 240!  Any takers?  :D

Did anybody happen to watch the Bills/Chiefs game?  I'd be curious to hear how Studebaker played and how much he played.  Looking at the box score, it doesn't look like he made any tackles.  I also ran across this picture:

This isn't exactly what I wanted to see.  Although, I will say that I thought Fred Jackson was the best D3 running back (even over Dan Pugh) in 2002.  That guy is incredibly fast and an amazing athlete.  In addition to being named 1st Team All-American in football, he anchored Coe's 4X100 relay team which I believed placed 5th in the 2003 D3 Track & Field National Championship.

OK, North Central and Wheaton fans - I've given you almost a day-and-a-half to savor your victories! ;D  Now, about achieving that all-CCIW regional final:

Cards: you're facing a qb who just threw for a gazillion yards and, what, 83 TDs - any special plans?  And between Rupp and Fanthorpe, should the over/under be set at 105.5? ;)  Or can your defense lock down Rupp?

Thunder (the right Thunder :D): just 9 days ago, your opponent was ranked #3 in the country.  Did DePauw totally debunk d3football's ranking, or was it just one of those days?  A real question - you've scrimmaged Wabash; does that tell anything useful, or too long ago and too different from playoff football?

Go get 'em guys - all-CCIW regional final! ;D

Mr. Ypsi:

I saw in yesterday's (Sunday's) paper that Eastern Michigan is basically having free admission to this week's game.  You, I and others have discussed their program extensively on these boards, but this is a new "low" for them.  Aside from giving some underprivileged children a chance to see a collegiate game free (and is a noble cause indeed), this is otherwise sad for the program.  Do you think that their head coach (J.G) will get the "axe" at the end of the season?

Pat,

Didn't know you were going to be in Naperville for the TMC game.  Any chance you are back this weekend?

The scrimmage is helpful in that there is some familiarity with the locker room, field, bus trip, etc that is to come for the wheaton players. They know the environment (sans the crowd which will be significant) and that experience should help. Beyond that you can watch the film from the scrimmage and compare some of the players tendencies, techniques, etc that have remained throughout the year but I would think the most recent game films will attract most of the attention in preparation.

I think these are two pretty closely matched teams and I strongly believe the team that turns it over less and can run the ball more effectively will win. Here are some facts to consider:

-In Wheaton's 9 wins the rushing numbers were: Wheaton 187 yds per game; 4.5 yds per carry vs. 9 opponents 76 yds per game 2.1 yds per carry.
-In Wheaton's 2 losses the numbers were: Wheaton 69 yds per game; 1.3 yds per carry vs. 2 opponents 156 yds per game and 3.4 yds per carry.

As for turnovers, in Wheaton's 2 losses they were sacked 9 times and turned it over 10 times. In their other 9 games they were sacked 7 times and turned it over 15 times.

Wheaton has some excellent skill players but if you control the LOS defensively against them, they turn it over. And by "they" I mean Sean Norris. Rocky Gingg fumbled for only the 2nd time all season last Saturday vs Trine.

This.

In the one game that Wabash lost and the other that by all means they should have lost (@ Wittenberg) Wabash turned the ball over 9 times.  Not so good.  Wabash rushed for just 13 yards against Wittenberg.  I don't know the total against DePauw because I don't care to look at that boxscore, but it wasn't much better.

I think we're in for a really good game on Saturday.

USee,

I hope your right in thinking the crowd will be significant.  Being Thanksgiving break, I'm not so sure.  Hope I'm wrong - I plan on finding out personally!

How well do Wheaton fans travel?

In an effort to save Wally's eyes.....79 yards on 26 attempts.

I wouldn't expect a sellout. I would say Wheaton fans travel "average". Lots of parents, friends and family, and student support will be minimal. This is due, in large part, to the geographic diversity of the student body and most will travel home for Thanksgiving weekend. Although most students don't make the trip to the games anyway.

The only issue I would have is the scheduling for athletics. For football, you'd have to go to a schedule where you don't play every team (like the Big Ten), which I'm not a fan of. As far as basketball and the other sports, I don't see an issue, though.

No you wouldn't. The OAC is a 10 team league and they play everybody. You could play 9 games and 1 preseason game. That said, I would not be a fan of this. I like playing 2-3 preseason games to warm up for the regular season.

::)  I hope your post doesn't rehash the preseason vs. non conference discussion!!  ;)
