Ill be at the Carthage vs. Carroll game this weekend and I hope that the Carthage offense shows up this weekend or Carthage could be in some trouble with Carroll. It will be interesting to see what the Carthage offense does this weekend. The Carthage defense will dominate as usual. I hope that Carthage contiues their winning ways this weekend.

GO REDMEN!!!
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

Best wishes to all CCIW teams in competition this weekend.  When you get a chance playing/broadcasting/or watching the game.. take a moment to remember our IWU teammate and those in the South suffering.
Let's make it an 8-0 for the CCIW in week one.

:o Did you hear what YPSI, better a bitch than a champion, why are you even on a football board?  You must go to North Park or something, maybe ypsi was tpsi when he wrote that we'll let that one go...Thunder look good, we'll see more tomorrow against Wabash. ;)

Mr. Ypsi

4in a row,

Sorry if I upset you - it's an inside joke for CCIW Chat (and, obviously, I'm a former Titan, not a Viking)!

Unfortunately (as far as I know) 'tag lines' are constant on both the fball and bball boards - if that is not the case, I would prefer to drop it for fball and just leave it for the Chat.  ;D

4in a row

Thunder have a much imporved defense led by fifth-year senior Caleb Walters from Texas (CB), Todd Travis, who ran a 4.3 this summer (FS), he is also 6'4" with a 40 inch vertical, he had 6 pics last year to go with 80 tackles.  Jeff Grandy is back, another fifth year senior that tore his ACL last year against NCC.  Jeremy Chupp lost Musso and Sinclair, but will not miss a beat.  Chupp should be all-conference, he just wins baby, 10-1 last year as a sophomore!  Wheaton, NCC, Carthage, Augie... 4 - in - a - ROW!!!!

Ok boys put them on, strap em up.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mr. Ypsi

The scoreboard has finals for Millikin (34-7 over #24-ranked Wartburg) and IWU (lost 14-20 at home to Simpson), but nothing up yet for Augie or NP - anyone got any news?

HughJass

Central 25 Augie 24 ?!?!?!  What the hell happened?  Anyone attend the game that could sum it up???  I can only imagine what the problem was...DEFENSE perhaps...

sica-sica

Augie only had 3 passes all game.Shut down the run and win the game period. How can you expect to win with no passing.

sportsknight

Can anyone that was at the Wartburg-Millikin game shed some light on what happened over there today?  I heard Wartburg had a hell of a time moving the ball, but any info (even biased) would be greatly appreciate.

HughJass,
You hit it right on the head.  Neither team did very well on defence.  Both Central and Augie had backs that ran for over 150 yards.  The Augie secondary had a few big pass interference penalties that helped the Dutch keep their drives alive.  One big difference between both teams was that Central was able to get some decent return yardage on kickoffs and punts while Augie didn't do much there.  However, both teams had kickers that were kicking off at least 5 yards deep into the endzone!  That is somewhat of a relief to Augie fans after losing All-American kicker Mike Clark to graduation.  The Central coach made an interesting call by going for 2 on the conversion in only the first overtime.  They brought out a formation that they hadn't used all game (empty backfield).  To the credit of the defensive back field, they had all the receivers covered, so the QB had to scramble and barely made it in to the endzone for the 2 points.  Congrats to the Dutch on being able to execute that play...maybe not the way that they had intended, but they got the job done.  Next week Augie travels to Washington D.C. to take on Catholic University (alma mater to the NY Yankee's Brian Cashman).

HughJass

Well at the same time it is a surprise, it isnt that Augie didnt make many passes.  Augie (up until the last few years) hasnt been a passing defense.  With the recruiting of more recievers they have been doing a lot of it as opposed to many years past.  Augie offense has always been centered around the run.  The run is what has worked for them the best.  I know you cannot run the ball EVERY play but you stick with what works.  I only hope that the trip to D. C. isnt a crappy one.  On a side note...did Travis Shea play the whole game on defense?  I hear Barnes started a Sophomore over Shea?!?!  Something I find ridiculous...nothing against the questionable starter.  IF thats what I heard right.

Millikin dominated every aspect of the game. They came out early and established the running game. Wartburg creeped up a bit to stop Nathan Wallick then Albin dropped a 47 yard bomb to Katzmark to pretty much take the wind out of Wartburgs sails. Wartburg didn't look like a top 25 team today in Decatur. Big Blue looked very good.
