Hiker Jim,

It's been a couple of years since the last time I saw George.  Is he still in the Wheaton area?  If so, hopefully he'll be at the game next week.  If not, tell him Troy Westerman says hello.

I'm fairly certain he'll be at the game.  We'll be on the Wheaton side, at least for a while.  A few of his friends usually sit on the Wheaton side as well.

I don't see another last second win by Wheaton this year!

Shepherd,

Just for the record, this board has always been VERY welcoming of new posters, UNLESS they are holier-than-thou know-it-alls who don't have a clue even what to call what they supposdly know-it-all about!

May I suggest that you re-read what Jesus had to say about the Pharisees, before you continue your rants about how much more Christian you are than anyone else here.

Hiker Jim:

I think the game depends on which Wheaton team shows up. Is it the Wheaton team that will try to pass the whole game and throw a couple of picks, or will it be the Wheaton team that ran the ball all over Carthage? Hopefully Augie wins so they can have an outright conference title, and finally Barnes can get over the Wheaton bump in the road. Either way it should be a good game between 2 great teams and their fans. I went to the Augie game at Wheaton 3 years ago, and to Wheaton's 1st round game last year, and couldn't have more respect for the program. I havn't been to Milikin to see a game, but it is my favorite place to see a CCIW game outside or Rock Island.  Good luck to everyone in the final week of the season. It's been a great year and hopefully NCC and Augie will be ready to play in the playoffs!

I'm really not sure what will happen next weekend.  At some level, this may be a mental hurdle that the Augie players and coaches need to clear.  They have been so close, so many times over the past few seasons but, somehow, find a way not to win each time (credit to gutsy Wheaton teams).  Hopefully, this will be the year, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.  A victory would be a tremendous boost for the playoffs, especially for the seniors who will then be able to celebrate their first CCIW title (outright), their first trip to the playoffs, and their first win over Wheaton.

I came here to discus the option but unless you're an Augustana fan or played for Auggie you have no right.  Well Ill be at the game I'm 5'11" 310lbs disabled 40yrs blond hair old and invite those Auggie bullies to talk to my face and see if they can just shake a mans hand.  Or do they hide behind their keyboard.  I promise to try not top laugh.  I suspect these are a couple of disgruntled water boys who got picked on in school.  Can you talk big and shake a mans hand?  I will be there!!

Wow, such violence from such a SUPPOSED Christian! :D

Shepherd,

I'm not sure what your problem is.  I don't believe I've "bullied" you with any of my responses, but tried to give you reasons on why I differ with many of your opinions/posts.
You have yet to respond to any of my comments other than to say everyone is "ganging up on you" or "is not a true Christian".  I can assure you that I was no "water boy" on Augie's championship teams and believe I have sufficient knowledge of Augie and the CCIW to respond to your comments.  I don't claim to be an expert on everything related to football (as you do), but I will respond to comments made that I think are inaccurate or just plain wrong.  Most of the other posters on this site seem to think the majority of the posts you have written fall into this category (this includes fans of other teams besides Augie).  Either lighten up, or stop wasting everyone's time on this site.

Mr. Ypsi

Shepherd,

If you had done ANY reading of the board, you would know that I am a Titan alum.

I just don't like the attitude you are projecting on the board - you display a makes-me-gag combination of 'holier-than-thou' bully and 'pity-party' victim.  Either alone would be distasteful, together ...

Augie6,

Wow have times changed... your sentiment here is exactly what many Wheaton fan's felt in the mid-80's and early 90's.  How many times we were on the verge of getting past the "Augie hurdle" only to fall just short?  After the 1986 game where Wheaton lost to Augie by the score of 19-18 on a last second FG (after a very questionable call by the officials on 4th and 18), the motto for the following year was "6 seconds more".  Augie went on to win the national championship in a cakewalk.  They blew out virtually every playoff team.  We were 6 seconds away from beating the 4 time repeating National Champions.  That said... there is a ton of mutual respect between Wheaton and Augie.  Congrats to Augie on a great year, but I'm pulling hard for one more Wheaton win.  Looking for a great game this weekend.

Mugsy,

It is funny how things can change like that over time.  I remember listening to the Wheaton/Augie game last year on the internet.  When Augie scored with over 2 minutes to go to take the lead, my first thought was "There's too much time left and Wheaton is going to go down and score".  Sure enough, that's what happened.  I don't know if that thought was in the back of any of the players/coaches minds, but I'm sure it was thought by most Augie fans given the results of the Augie/Wheaton games over the past few seasons.  Hopefully, this will be the year that it changes.

I agree that there is a tremendous amount of mutual respect between the two teams.  This goes back many years and, hopefully, will continue for many more.  I have lived in Wheaton for the past several years and have enjoyed being able to go to the periodic Wheaton game.  They have always been a well-coached, hard-nosed football team, who play the game the way it was intended.  I am also looking forward to a great game this weekend.  Good Luck to both teams, but ... GO AUGIE!!!

Shepherd haven't you learned from everything yet that it is AUGIE not "auggie".  I don't know who auggie is.  But Augie will go to wheaton determined to win a game that has huanted these sr's for 4 years.

Sheperd:

So at the game next weekend you want "Augie bullies" to come over to shake your hand while you try not to laugh too much? I know I wouldn't want to shake hands and talk face to face with someone who would laugh at me.  If you came to talk about the option why can't people who didn't play for Augie or are a fan of Augie talk about the option? It makes sense to me that anybody who played football in the CCIW would be knowledgeable enough to talk about the option especially if they are talking about how they tried to stop Augie's rushing attack ie Mugsy in the 80's or Jaybird just recently. This is a message board where EVERYONE has the right to post. I for one am not one to hide behind a computer, but don't except me to come up to you to shake your hand at the game next weekend if you are going to continue to call out people. People from this board for the most part get along pretty well for hiding behind a computer. Earlier this year, the Carthage alumn invited me over to their tailgate party eventhough  I was the enemy of the day.  It is this specical bond that makes the CCIW great, and hopefully will continue for years to come.

Will all the teams in the CCIW look at Elmhurst differently next year?   They had a great year.  This conference may get to tough for itself.  Or maybe they could send three teams next year.  What do you guys think?

I haven't checked to see the graduation losses, but I think it is safe to say that teams will approach Elnhurst with more 'respect' next year.

To the best of my knowledge, NO conference has EVER sent 3 teams to the fb post-season.

(See what a nicer response you get when you decide to post respectfully? :))
