luckily with Wheaton's great defense with hardnosed guys like Kikendall on the line, Grandy in the middle and Ast in backfield...Wheaton may just get the luxury of switching their quarterbacks in and out like that...to be honest I don't think we'll get that luxury against an Augie.  If the coaches still haven't figured it out yet and are in fact going to screw around with switching the quarterbacks in and out lets all hope they get it done and get it figured out in the first couple of series. I think a better scenario than just simply "a great learning experience for Chupp to finish this one out" is for the seniors and the rest of the wheaton thunder to go out with a hard fought victory to carry them into next year.  Lets give one to the guys who are done...I would give these guys my senior year ending in the playoffs any day as opposed to what they are about to get but it can still be very sweet!  Lets go wheaton!

wheaty

just had to mention my bro in there...he is the reason why I would trade my senior year for theirs.

usee

in case you didn't notice, the coaches have been rotating the two qbs  by quarter each of the past two games. thats why i think they'll do it again.

wheaty

yeah and I whole heartedly think that is a piss poor decision...not worth risking the other seniors season at the risk of someone's learning curve... and I know the players agree with me on this one.

Shepard,
I will say this.  You really spurred on some conversation today!  I hope that you can continue to be a positive contributor to this community which we have all grown so fond of over the seasons.

I agree, I'll be happy if they never have to throw a pass. I just wish they were a little better at it when they do need to.

I am right there with you on that thought.  However they did let the ball fly yesterday...4 attempts?  2 completions?  AND NO INTERCEPTIONS!  I was impressed with Roe's decision making on those passes too.  The one play where the receiver wasn't wide open, he lead him enough so that there wouldn't be the risk of an interception.  He also lead him enough so that there wouldn't be a risk of a reception, but you need to do that sometimes.  I think that some decisions like that have not been made by Augie QBs (now and past) because of the infrequency of the passing attack.

I am a happy supporter of the Wing-T.  Not only was it there while I was at Augie, but at my High School as well.  Of course Bob Reade only got 3 consecutive state championships there before he moved up to the job at Rock Island.  I could watch that system everyday of the week and be very happy.  Luckily there are enough programs in the Quad Cities area that use it.  I can almost always catch someone using it.

Tmac the board has been over the fact that Radtke did more that just have an aledged late hit. Yes he is a great linebacker, but he showed little class in the loss.  Over the past three years I have seen Augies chances of a confrence championship and a playoff spot taken from them during the last game of the season.  That being said I have never seen Augie players act as he did after the game talking to sh it  to the fans after the game.

I know everyone had said already that NCC showed no class after the devastating call that gave Augie the win over them. But one thing I observed about terrible class and just total disrespect to a team and his school. Number #48, Greg Cozzi starting running back for the Vikes after his celebration of the ref giving Augie the game, takes a nice shot of a flask on the 50 yard line to celebrate with his father or family member. Now, I know college kids drink and party, but to have the audacity to take a swig on the football field and the nerve of his father to give it to him on the field after the game. Now, I know Augie's drinking policy might be a little different than Wheaton's for example. But that sight could have been the most disrespectful thing I've seen in a while. Not only to his program but also to NCC. I think talking trash to fans, if that was the case, compared to drinking on the field is a whole different ballpark, wouldn't you say?...............

Hope this doesn't hurt his rep but man to do that in front of that many people is just plain dumb!!!!!

Mugsy,

I remember that '86 game and if the questionable call you're referring to was a Greg Wallace to Eric Welgat pass late in the game, I have to admit "questionable" would be an understatement. I remember telling my friends who weren't at the game that not only did it bounce, I think it may have bounced TWICE!

augievike93,

I think another problem that they have with the passing game, and have pretty much always had since going to the wing-T, is pass protection. Looking at their numbers this year, they've allowed 8 sacks (despite having one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the country) while attempting 23 passes. That's not really a criticism, just an observation, because, to a certain extent, I think that's just the price you have to pay for being so devoted to the ground game. But, believe me, I definitely don't want them to scrap the wing-T. Ever. :)

Dansand:
I agree with you that they don't have the protection that they need up front for the passing game. Howeverl, early in the season the pass play took too long to get set up. Especially against a good team Roe will be scrambling to get the pass off. On Saturday, the first pass completion was a quick 3 step drop, and Roe hit the tight end on a little inside slant route. I think if they are going to continue to pass, they need more of these quick 3 step drops or quick rollouts to be successful passing the ball.

I know there is still 1 week left of play, but to get the discussion back to football, I want to know people's opionons for OPOY, DPOY, and COY.

I think Kniss, Anthony, and Barnes win these awards. Any comments?

CardinalAlum

Augiedogie,

I'm with you on that one 100%.  Kniss, Anthony and Barnes should walk away with these awards.

Tmac,
Get over it!  The guys I played with would have done the same or worse if we had won the conference and were going to the playoffs!! ;D

Wow!   A lot has happened both on and off the field over the weekend.  Some of it constructive and a lot of other **** just flat out childish.
First,  it was a great game down in Decatur between Elmhurst and Millikin.  Great job Jays, first win in Decatur since 1985 and first time Neibuhr has lost to us.  Second, Wallick is by far the best rb i have seen in the CCIW this year.  As somebody mentioned earlier, both Elmhurst and MU gave 110 % for 4 quarters as Millikin made things interesting late.
"How many seniors/starters are lost and what will Elmhurst be like in the future?"
We lose 5 Seniors Brogan, Rueckert, Evans, Cook, and one more.  The majority of the team will be Seniors and Juniors next year with great promise.  Tom Journell (like Thorne) is doing a great job making the Jays a believer.  ( I must say I was worried up in the pressbox in the 4th when Millikin was mounting a comeback.
The big question is will Elmhurst be able to 1) Believe in themselves and be able to "seal the deal" and win most of the 4th qrtr nailbiters  2) Will their current foundation develop into a solid "annual" club?
As a loyal alum and commentator I am pretty confident the Bluejays are heading in the right direction and it's a joy to watch these kids play....(Cont.)

4th-  Congrats to Augie for in the end, having 1 or more points than North Central when the final horn went off.  It's a shame that the victory is tainted with controversy, but you win some, and you lose some.  (This leads into my point about officiating).  I felt the same way NC does now vs. Augie, the way EC felt versus their game with NC.  Fact is officials are human beings and they make mistakes, I make mistakes, etc.  I think overall the CCIW officials on a scale of 1 to 10 are about a 5+/ 6.  Not great, but decent enough to monitor a game accordingly.  I look at the Bluejays games over the season, and I can honestly say the calls evened out during the year.
Fifth, what planet and what CCIW games have you been watching Shepherd?  85% of what you have posted thus far just doesn't make any sense and "comes out of right field".  THINK BEFORE YOU POST! ???
6th  Cardinal 20.  I can understand both sides of the argument/conversations about broadcasting.  Next week marks 5 years broadcasting Elmhurst games and I'm excited to begin my 6th in August.  What I tell people is this:  I broadcast "through the heart".  (You may laugh but it's true)  Yes I broadcast verbally through the microphone on the headset, deep down I broadcast through my heart because that's where the "drive" rests.
You have to be able to take criticism with the same regard you receive praise.  ( By the way I want to thank those who have commented on my broadcasts... I value both positive and constructive criticism).
As soon as the Elmhurst game is over I'm eager to talk to people to find out their impressions/opinions about the game. (Cont.)

All I can tell you Cardinal20 is this:  1) You wouldn't be out there broadcasting if you didn't love your school, love the sport, and value what the CCIW has to offer.  People ask me why I'm still traveling x amount of miles to Decatur or Rock Island and I grin and reply "why not?"  It's what I love to do.
Enjoy your time in the booth because time flys by.  Take the positives and negatives and try to find a happy medium.
Whew!  I'm sorry to hog the board this morning, but I think I can finally get off this soap box.
Looking forward to the Elm/Car "Arch Rivals" game this weekend.  Should be a low scoring affair between to great defenses.
