In other news...

Running backs at NCC will need to step up as Dom Sulo has torn his ACL.  Luckily NCC has 3 backs that can get the job done.  Let's go Cards, keep up the intensity.

Wow. It's too bad that happened this many games into the season. No redshirt possibility for him like his bro and Wenger will get. Just too bad.

Any word on Champion? (or did I miss the previous post)

I was isolating on our D line most of the night. #97 Tim Janacek worked his tail off all night long trying to break free of a lot of hooking and holding on him. I can't believe none of it was called.

Holding?  What holding?   ;)    Funny you mention that  because we thought the same thing about holding for NCC! Seemed like a lot of jersey pulling, grabbing and hooking was going on on both sides.  We also thought some pass interference was left uncalled.  But, it seems like the refs let them play which is what I would rather see.  Good luck to you guys the rest of the season.

Carthage Fan,
There was a lot of holding coming from the Carthage side of the ball.  The holding penalties were definitely called on North Central.  Josh Delancy was called for at least 5 holding penalties.  Some of the "hooking" that you might be describing would be from our tackles pass blocking.  When a defensive end throws a rip move during a speed rush, the way to defend it is to put one hand in the middle of the chest and the other on the hip.  Then put pressure and that generally torques the D-end over.  Unfortunately it can look like holding when, in fact, there is no holding on the play.  Another point to make was that last year the officials said they were going to reduce the holding calls.  The only time they would throw it is if a defender was visibly trying to disengage from a blocker and the jersey was being pulled, or there is an arm hooked around.  That might shed some light as to why there were few holding calls on both sides.  Thank you for the wishes of luck.  I hope you guys win out!

From an O-lineman's perspective: It's not holding unless your caught.

Well Mugsy and Wheaton Posters...it is Monday night on the week before the biggest game so far of the year in the CCIW.    What can we expect from the Thunder this week, and how do they plan on stopping a very potent NCC offense.   Forecast looks like there may be some rain and snow on Saturday...could slow down the Cardinals a bit.

I will put the 1st prediction out there.

North Central 31
Wheaton        21

2nd prediction

Wheaton 35
NCC 34

WC wins on another last second play.

I'm going to go against the grain and say Wheaton 20-Naperville School 14.  Both offenses look to be on top of their game.  I just feel that defense will be the key of the day, especially if the weather predictions are right.  In any case, it should be a rockin' game.  The litmus test for both teams on the CCIW slate so far.

I am going to keep this simple. Wheaton might need to score 70 points to top NCC's explosive offense but I know that Wheaton's defense is going to be the best one that they have seen.

Wheaton 31
NCC 24
(With two minutes left and NCC on Wheaton's 30 yard line with 2 timeouts.....) :D

cardinaldad

Not much love here for the Cards.
I'm going to say..........35 - 24 NCC
The offense will continue scoring some points and the D will allow some points, but step up and limit them. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
This sure is an X's and O's post, isn't it? ::)

I spoke with an inside source. It is just a rumor around campus that Sulo injured his ACL. The word is that it is his miniscus.
Looks like four in a row!

In other action around the CCIW this weekend.............

I'm predicting Carthage will knock off Augie in Rock Island. Augie will possess the ball 40 minutes of the game. With their grind-it-out offensive tradition they will only score 3 TDs over that time span. The Red Men will slow down, but not stop the Augie rushing attack. Carthage will possess the ball only 20 minutes, but will put up 5 TDs as their air attack will leave the Augie defense spinning on their heals.  :o ;D

The North Central vs Wheaton game will be shown on local Naperville TV.

LOL... nice interior design concepts.  Unfortunately I don't think it would fly with my wife for the primary bathroom.   :-[

While it is taking alot of calendar time, the actual hours spent hasn't been too extreme.  Between crazy work hours and trying to avoid waking the kids (since the bathroom is adjacent to bedrooms), I'm only putting in 8-10 hours a week on the bathroom.  I've completed the demolition of old bathroom down to studs/joists, electrical work to replace 50+ year old wiring/new circuit for jacquzzi tub, replace old cast iron plumbing, replacing insulation, and I'm 90% done with installing drywall.

Once done with the drywall I should be able to spend more time as the remaining work shouldn't be as noisy (tape, mud, sand, installing tile/beadboard, trim, painting, etc...).

I'm sure you know and I'm certain your wife appreciates the many dollars you are able to save your household by having the skill and patience to do your own bathroom remodel. That outta earn you a few get-out-of-the-dog-house free credits for the remainder of 2009.  ;) Just like personal sick days with most companies. Use em or loose em. :o ;D

Well hopefully that is true, as minisci (is that correct plural for miniscus?) injuries generally heal quicker.

Regardless:

North Central - 45
Wheaton - 28

and the Bell stays where it should!

Both menisci and meniscuses are acceptable plurals for "meniscus."

Your instincts regarding plurals for Latin-derived words are good, O Broadway Crooner, even though your spelling isn't. ;)

If only there was a way the WIAC can avoid this...like scheduling some non-conference schools near by to save costs.......   ;)      :P      ;D

My wife drives a Prius (the only car I've ever known of that gets better mileage than advertised).  I'm thinking of getting one too, just so we can bore everyone with boasts about our Prii! ;D

The primary difference being that injuries involving the crescent shaped lamellae of fibrocartilage that border and partly cover the articulating surfaces of the tibia and femur at the knee can often be surgically repaired through arthroscopic means whereas ACL injuries typically require a much more extensive reconstructive procedure.   ::)
