Clearly the committee weighs the second loss, no matter who it is or who else on yoru schedule you may have actually beaten, very heavily.  Whether or not I agree with that stance is moot...I can understand the position.  What I can't understand is how W&J goes in ahead of St. Norbert.  The only thing that I can figure is that losing your one game close (14-7 loss to Thomas More...at home) is better than losing your one by not quite so close (52-24 loss to Monmouth...on the road).

For those interested, you're invited to participate in the OAC Playoff Pick-Em Contest.   Whether you joined us in the regular season or not, your welcome to join for the playoffs.

Spreads for Round 1 have been posted in the General Page.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

IWU held North Park to -6 total offensive yards yesterday...anyone know the CCIW record for fewest yards allowed in a game?

north park at carthage 1967, 0 first downs (check with carthage - im pretty sure it was a two-digit negative number)
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Big day for Andy Studebaker vs the Oakland Raiders in a win for Kansas City

5 solo tackles and an assist.  By far his most productive game since becoming an NFL player

Any thoughts on COY, OPOY or DPOY? i thought if Millikin could beat Augie coach Neighbur would be a lock for COY. now I think it will probably go to Coach Easch. As for the other 2 i don't know enough to comment.

You OK Mugsy ? I'm a little concerned for you by your posting absence. Do I need to send a wellness check to your house? :o ;D

I think the COY is a lock for Norm Eash. There are no other options (and shouldn't be). As far as OPOY its a narrow list but is a little more open than it was 3 weeks ago. It has to be either Fanthorpe or Evan Jones. I think Fanthorpe is the favorite but the numbers Jones has put up are just as ridculous and he has consistently led his offense while limiting his turnovers. They may be co-POY but at a minimum one should POY and the other 1st team ALL CCIW in my opinion.

Defensively it is a little harder to judge but I have to believe someone on the IWU team is the winner. I would vote for Nick Nikolich since he seemed to play the best vs Wheaton but others may like Beauchamp or Roman Hunter. I have to believe its one of those 3.  My bet is on Nikolich.

The position battles will be interesting particularly at WR where there was a lot of talent in the league this year. I also think OL is a touch position as the number of Quality OL is pretty high.

To the victors go the spoils so I would expect IWU to dominate many of the awards followed by NCC and then the others.

Stagg Again!!

Congratulations go out to IWU and NCC for sharing the CCIW conference championship.  IWU had a tremendous season, and with a bit of luck and good health (Ladd) could make some noise in the NCAA tournament.  I still don't understand how Milikin beat them, given the stats from that game!!!

I don't either but am very happy we did  :D. Next year we need to stand tall against the other top teams in the conference in order to be taken seriously. Interesting point made in the ATN podcast that 6 teams finished with winning records this year. I don't know about the other conferences around the country but it definitely points to another tough year in the CCIW next year IMHO.

Thank you appreciate your insight.

Stagg Again!!

I am a bit intrigued by the NCAA selections process.  Clearly, the committee looked primarily at won-loss record and didn't pay as much attention to strength of schedule.  The following chart shows the SOS for the Pool B/C teams v. those of NCC and Ohio Northern:

                                 Reg. Win %     O Win %    OO Win %
Huntingdon                   1.000              .589           .568
Case                           1.000               .402           .545
St. Thomas                  .900                 .528           .528
Coe                            .900                 .504           .530
W&J                           .900                  .400           .499
Wabash                      .889                  .531           .518
Mississippi College         .889                 .482           .496
MHB                           .875                 .451            .487

NCC                           .800                .575            .568
ONU                           .800                .544             .524

I'm Just trying to reconcile how four teams with Opponents' Winning % below .500 got into the tournament while NCC and ONU did not, given their SOS.  After all NCC was the CCIW co-champion and ONU was #2 in the OAC.  Speaking of that, it is interesting to see that the OAC (6-4 v. non- OAC teams), WIAC (18-6 v. non-WIAC teams), and CCIW (20-4 v. non-CCIW teams) only got one team each into the field while the ASC (7-11 v. non-ASC teams), NCAC (13-17 v. non-NCAC teams) and PAC (10-7 v. non-PAC teams) each got two teams in.  Finally, is it more than 500 miles from Mary Hardin Baylor to Central?  Can someone provide me with a bit more clarity on these issues?  What message is the NCAA sending regarding scheduling difficult out-of-conference games when you play a tough OAC/CCIW schedule?

StaggPB-

Obviously the committee didn't pay as much attention to the SOS numbers as it did to actual won/loss records. They took a 9-1 team over an 8-2 team. In the end it was far more simple than any of us hoped.

You can listen to the podcast on the daily dose (front page) to hear what Pat and Keith think of the incentive to schedule tougher teams. I think many of the CCIW coaches know if you play decent non conf games and finish with 1 loss you will make the playoffs.

As far as UMHB, they will fly to Central. The committee knew they had to fly somewhere and once they committ to a flight it really doesn't matter where. Lots of info on other threads on this board if you are interested.
