The little brass bell is the only traveling trophy I'm familiar with in the CCIW.
I'm glad Elmhurst is taking CURF off their schedule in 2006.  I think Tom Journell is shooting for a WIAC Team in the near future.  I don't think we're at that level yet, but only Coach knows.  I would like to see us schedule a team at or a little better than our team. Teams like Aurora, Adrian, (perhaps renew) with Ripon.
I think Augie will get a home game in the 1st round and NC will be traveling.  All signs point to NC going to Alliance, and that would be a toughy for the Cards.

I'm a first time poster, long time reader of this board.  I love reading everyone's opinion of the CCIW.  I'm an Augie grad and played for Reade/ Schmalbach, now I coach at a high school  near Naperville. In fact it was one of my ex-players that blocked the field goal attempt in which the Cards were called offsides on this past Saturday, (not to bring up that subject again).

Is it possible for Augie to host the first two rounds of the playoffs in Rock Island.  If so, who needs to win/lose to make this happen.

Will the fact that our Quality of Wins is #4 in the country contribute to us getting a home game if we are to beat NP?

Wing T:

The only chance Augie could host 2 games is if they A) beat Wheaton on Saturday. B) Wabash needs to lose  C) There is a possibility Wisconsin Whitewater moves to the North Region which would hurt Augie's chances as well so they need to not be in the North. D) It depends on if Augie can pass Mt. Union for a higher seed.  Mt. Union has been ranked higher in the region, but that was when they showed Augie had a regional loss when they didn't have one. At best Augie can be a #2 seed behind Wabash, but it's looking IMO they will be #3 or even #4.

Thanks augiedogie!  I'll be cheering on the Vikes this Saturday up in Wheaton.  Then in Rock Island first round!!!

Statement by NCAA Senior Vice-President for Governance and Membership Bernard Franklin on Carthage College and Midwestern State

For Immediate Release
Wednesday, November 9, 2005 Contact
Bob Williams
Managing Director of Public and Media Relations
317/917-6117

"The NCAA staff review committee has removed Carthage College and Midwestern State University from the list of colleges and universities subject to restrictions on the use of Native American mascots, names and imagery at NCAA championships."

"Both schools elected to remove any references to Native American nicknames, imagery and mascots from their respective athletic programs by February 1, 2006."

"The NCAA commends Carthage College and Midwestern State University for taking affirmative steps to eliminate the potential for a hostile or abusive environment by removing Native American references from their respective athletics programs.  While the NCAA policy does not mandate that an institution change its mascot, nickname or imagery, the action Carthage and Midwestern State have taken is consistent with core governing principles of the Association, specifically the principles of cultural diversity and nondiscrimination."

"In the case of Carthage, we support the development of a new policy statement that will communicate the school's historical meaning of the 'Red Men' nickname and emphasize that there is no association with Native Americans.  We encourage the university to continue, and where appropriate, expand this educational campaign to overcome any lasting perceptions of Native American affiliation that may exist based on the institution's previous use of Native American imagery."

"Midwestern State has been granted an extension until April 4, 2006, following the basketball and volleyball season, to remove the name 'Indians' from its basketball court."

"The NCAA's position on the use of Native American mascots, names and imagery has not changed, and the NCAA remains committed to ensuring an atmosphere of respect and sensitivity for all who participate in and attend our championships."

While NCC does have the 4th best QOW index as of now,  there are 3 teams (2 for sure in the North Region and from what Usee said Mommouth could be moved into the North) that are only 0.03 and .06 pts. away from NCC. With NCC's last game against NPU they could very easily slip to 5th, 6th, or 7th in QOW. I'd like to see them get a home game in the 1st Rd because they will be traveling for sure in the 2nd Rd.

What a load of PC B.S. from the NCAA.  The whole scenario is so hypocritical, in the words of Kip Dynamite, "I'm just kinda TO'd."  I know this has been talked about ad nauseum all over this board, but it's a total joke.  The main argument against the use of Native American nicknames and images from the PC do-gooders is that their use is dehumanizing and stereotypes those who are Native American.  Get a friggin' life people.  If Native American nicknames are dehumanizing, why aren't the Fighting Irish dehumanizing?  Why aren't Vikings dehumanizing?  Why aren't the Trojans, the Spartans, the Olympians dehumanizing?  Congratulations NCAA, you officially have no spine.  If people truly believed that human nicknames were dehumanizing, than why aren't ALL nicknames referring to any type of race banned?  The hypocrisy is unbelievable.  The NCAA is quicker to surrender than a Frenchman defending Paris.  When will these flippin' idiots wake up and realize the purpose of having those mascots is meant to reflect PRIDE in the school the same way that those groups so reverently display PRIDE in themselves.  If they really want to help a group of people out, I suggest they volunteer for the Special Olympics or build homes with Habitat for Humanity.  Do some real good that has a real effect on a person's life.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

I just wish devildog would stop riding the fence on this issue and pick a side... ;D

Ok, sorry, I'm off my soap box now.

Back to football.

You know, back in 82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile.

Aw, heck - that's nothing!  At 57 I can still throw a pigskin more than a mile!

All you gotta do is stand at the rim of Hell's Canyon! ;D

new regional rankings are out. here is how the north stacks up:

1. Wabash 8-0 9-0
2. Mount Union 7-1 8-1
3. Augustana (Illinois) 7-1 8-1
4. North Central (Illinois) 6-1 8-1
5. Capital 7-2 7-2
6. Mount St. Joseph 8-1 8-1
7. John Carroll 7-2 7-2
8. Wheaton (Illinois) 6-2 7-2
9. Ohio Northern 6-2 7-2
10. Lakeland 7-2 8-2

so if all holds w wins this weekend the north could look like this:

wabash
muc
augie
ncc
monmouth
mt st joe
albion
lakeland

or

wabash
uww
muc
augie
ncc
mt st joe
albion
lakeland

usee

in the first scenario it depends where they would seed a monmouth (or maybe central comes in) as to whether ncc gets a home game. my sense is in this case ncc would host a monmouth.

in the second scenario they woudln't put augie/ncc together in first round so it would likely be ncc at muc and mt st joe at augie
