Cardinals will be reporting on Saturday, football is upon us.

Based on this article, Pete could see some good minutes Saturday night vs the Seahawks in the preseason opener..

Red Reign

I heard 1st team all-conf. returning defensive tackle Robert Champion will not be reporting to camp for the cardinals. Not great news for the cards, but I'm sure someone is waiting for the opportunity.

My son is just leaving for NCC camp and he has been saying all summer what Red Reign stated that Champion is not playing this season. Hopefully we're both wrong but I doubt it.
The one good thing though is that NCC is at a point that they don't rebuild but reload.

Unfortunately NCC is not the only team with a significant player not returning for the 10' season.   :-\

Velling and another starter from last year in would-be senior DE Nick O'Neal.

the teams with no QB question are:

Carthage: Evan Jones
Augustana: David Lee
IWU: Brien Rooney
Millikin: Luke Hockaday
Elmhurst: Joe Furco

Obviously Evan Jones is the leader of this group from a production standpoint but Brien Rooney and Luke Hockaday can take over games and David Lee showed late in the year he can be dangerous.

My bet for the other starters are:

NCC: Spencer Stanek
NPU: Sam Cochiaro
Wheaton: Jordan Roberts

I have no information to base these guesses other than these three saw playing time at the position last year. Its all speculation.

To further speculate, I view Jordan Roberts as the front-runner for Wheaton based on what I saw from him last year.

Nice to know Wheaton has a few potential solid backups regardless.  Also nice to know that with the return of a healthy Rocky Gingg, Wheaton's running attack should relieve the pressure on whatever QB takes over.  Still can't believe Gingg played virtually the entire year and almost rushed for 1000 yards while dealing with a sports hernia.  That is flat out tough...  I don't think I'd like to take a nap with a sport hernia.

Based solely on who got the first snaps as a backup last year, if I had to guess I would also pick Roberts to get the job.   I do think Griffin Kuhn also has a real good shot.   People may not know much about Griffin since he played HS ball in Arkansas, but he is actually one of the highest profile recruits Wheaton has had at QB.  Granted, what people think of you in HS goes out the window when you set foot on a college campus, but FWIW, Kuhn was a 2*prospect on Rivals, and rated the 73rd best QB in the nation by ESPN.  He broke his leg in the preseason of his senior year which likely hurt his scholarship opportunities.

Yup.  Velling would have provided a nice 1-2 punch at RB with Gingg, but Wheaton will be alright without him.

wow that is impressive that Wheaton can rotinely draw recruits of this caliber to the D3 level.  I'm sure many MAC schools would like to have 3 kids of this caliber competing for their starting QB job let alone the Thunder.  Will be interesting to see if they can get all 3 to stay at WC.

izzy, thanks for the links.  Yes, I've heard really good things about Kuhn.  Always nice to have multiple options at a position like QB.

Noticed for tonights Titan's pre-season game that both CB's listed ahead of Pete Ittersagen are listed as scratches due to injury. Pete should have a key opportunity to show what he can do.  D3 CB's don't get too many opportunities, hope he makes the best of it.

Go get'em Pete!

From Chiefs camp, press conference w HC Todd Haley after preseason game vs Atlanta:

Q: What about LB Andy Studebaker, he seemed to have a good day?

HALEY: "I believe that young group of developing players I was overall encouraged with and he's clearly one of those guys that has come a long way and I think it was hard not to notice him in a lot of different areas. He's worked real hard to put himself in a position to have some success and I think some of that showed up. I'm excited about the direction Andy is going."

And from the Titans website:

Off the field Q&A with Pete Ittersagen

What is your favorite thing about Nashville?

"Definitely the people.  So far they are really welcoming and friendly.  It seems like a close knit group of people."

How did you spend your offseason?

"I spent a lot of time with my family and friends.  Also I played a lot of golf on courses back home in Chicago."

What are your hobbies off the field?"I do a lot of things in the community with a local church.  I try to give back by investing in the kids.  I also love to play pickup basketball whenever there is a game."

What are your plans after football?
"Hopefully to continue to do something that I love to do.  With that, hopefully make a difference in people's lives at the same time."

Who was a role model for you growing up?
"My dad and my older brother.  Obviously an older brother is someone always to look up to.  My dad was someone who I saw live as a Godly man and I really want to live my life in the same way."

Who is your favorite athlete in another sport?
"I'm a big NBA fan.  Being from Chicago, I'd have to say Derrick Rose."

If you would be on any reality show, which one would you choose?
"I'd definitely be on The Bachelor.  Since I'm single, it might help the process of finding someone to date.

Last movie you saw in theaters?

"Inception.  I thought it was good, but not as good as everyone hyped it up to be."

Who is the best player in history at your position?
"I'd probably say Deion Sanders.  I grew up watching him play.  I also enjoy watching old highlights of Herm Edwards."
