Mr. Ypsi

IWU up on Alma, 21-0 at the half.  You can't learn too much against a team like Alma, but two encouraging things:

1.  They ARE doing to Alma what a ranked team ought to be doing.

2.  They've made all 3 PATs.  Last year, FGs were all but impossible, and even PATs were an adventure.

Game over Wheaton 17-6 over Albion.

Overall decent game for Wheaton.  I'm always a bit nervous for the 1st game because Wheaton always starts a week later than everyone.  Having one game under the belt is an advantage to whatever opponent Wheaton plays.  That mixed with poor field conditions and rain evens out the game a bit.

Sounds like Wheaton had difficultly punching in for TD's and had to settle of 3 FG's in addition to the sole TD by Rocky Gingg.

Very balanced attack for Wheaton - 208 yards rushing, 215 passing.  Gingg finished with 36 carries for 185 yards - the "work horse" is BACK!  Great news for Wheaton after he played injured all season in 2009.

Solid defensive performance by Wheaton, holding Albion to 185 total yards (123 passing, 62 rushing).  Albion had some very talented skill players - QB, RB and WR.  The RB (Clinton Orr) came into the game averaging nearly 7 yards per carry over the last 6 games.  Wheaton held him to 66 yards on 22 carries for a 3 yard average

I look forward to getting the impression from someone who actually watched the game.

Just heard the radio broadcaster for Carthage mention that Red Men linebacker Mike Oratowski just recently lost his brother fighting in Afganistan. Kind of a sobering thought this being the anniversary of 9/11 and makes football seem trivial. My prayers and gratitude go out to the Oratowski family for their sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the brave men and women who serve our Nation and give us the freedom to do what we do.

Couldn't say it better Tailgater.  Thank you to our servicemen and women.

According to the scoreboard, looks like Elmhurst had an easy time of it.  Elmhurst over Olivet, 37-7.

Barn burner in Howard Grove. Carthage escapes with a 35 - 34 victory in overtime. Lakeland attempted the 2 point conversion for the win and the Red Men picked it off for another nail biting victory against Lakeland.

the rushing total is pretty close to a school record

npu iced win with a  99-yard interception return with about a minute to play with the eagles having the ball inside the vikings 20-yard line.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Congrats to North Park - don't look now, but with MacMurray up next, there is a very real possibility of a North Park WINNING STREAK!  Of course, then the conference season starts, but hey, no need to go there yet!

Nick Pantaleo broke the all-time school record with his 99-yar interception return.  Gene Boba held the record since the 60s,with a 93-yard interception... against Benedictine.

Congratulations to the Vikings on their win!

Augie just got around to posting the boxscore to the game.  Umm... can someone tell me the last time Augie was held to -32 yards rushing on 18 attempts?

The transformation to the dark side is complete.
