Illinois Wesleyan beat NPU, 42-0.

at least the park had positive yards... :( last year -6 total I believe.

Last season's game was one in which NPU was breaking in the option, something that's really impossible to do while the season is in progress, so it should be seen in that light. Take away the 24 yards that Krebs lost the three times he got sacked, and NPU's rushing yardage and rushing average climb to the level of mediocrity. That's not much of a consolation, especially when the Vikings defense got crushed all afternoon, but at least it's something.

I particularly enjoy the votes for Washington U. and Morrisville State.

Agreed.  Auggie and Carthage should have both received more votes that Wash U.  :P  Perhaps the AFCA voters think Wash U. is going to knock off Wabash after losing to Witt. 37-7.

I think the AFCA voters are good at predicting the future.

I actually saw Morrisville State play Saturday and their senior quarterback was 11-for-30 with three picks, staring down receivers all day. Fell to 1-4.

Well I am finally able to respond to this Saturday's debacle.  this one hurts as Elmhurst had no business losing this game and basically stole defeat from the jaws of victory.
Everything Mugsy and the others have highlighted is true and then some.
Everytime Elmhurst had a chance to go for the jugular,  their miscues or "youth" (to be nice) resurfaced and eventually it cost them.  They let Wheaton linger around and in the 3rd quarter,  i don't know if they got complacent or what,  just didn't put the wounded dog down,  and poof!  The muscle laden dog got the bone.
On the air halfway through the 3rd quarter i mentioned this eerliy similar to some past storylines where EC had a lead, had momentum, and wound up losing a heartbreaker.  Well, unfortunately deja vu hit.
I hope this is just growing pains for Elmhurst, but if EC wants to jump into the 1-3 slots in the conference annually,  the good teams don't lose these types of games.

Neither team really showed me that they are "invisible" and both teams showed some porous spots.

And that is just it,  Elmhurst has been having trouble the last 5-6 years closing out games.
I thought the turning point of the game came in the 4th quarter when EC's defense stopped Wheaton on 4th and 1 but then could not do anything on offense,  allowing the Thunder to keep the momentum swing in their favor to come from behind.

All in all,  it was a pleasant, enjoyable day weather wise, crowd, wise,  just the outcome was bad.

Congratulations to Carthage defensive bach Brian Hipchen and Wheaton QB Jordan Roberts for CCIW player of the week honors.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Wheaton's Jordan Roberts and Carthage's Brian Hipchen were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Roberts, a sophomore quarterback from Yorkville, Ill., and Aurora Christian High School, helped lead Wheaton to a 27-24 come-from-behind victory over Elmhurst on Saturday. Wheaton rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit thanks to Roberts' two touchdown passes in the second half and a key run by the quarterback. Roberts completed 15 of his 22 passing attempts for 160 yards and three touchdown passes. He also ran for 82 yards on nine carries as he combined for 242 of Wheaton's 395 yards of total offense. In the third quarter, he cut Elmhurst's lead to 24-21 with a six-yard touchdown pass that was set up three plays earlier on a 64-yard run to get the Thunder inside of Elmhurst's 10-yard line. He gave Wheaton the lead at 27-24 with a one-yard touchdown pass in the end zone to fullback Davis Skinner (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School) that was set up one play earlier on a 34-yard pass. Roberts is a Business/Economics major.

Hipchen, a junior defensive back from Palatine, Ill., and Fremd High School, returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the Red Men's 48-24 win over Millikin on Saturday. Carthage struck first when Hipchen returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown on the Big Blue's opening drive. His second interception return for a touchdown was a 48-yard effort at 9:47 in the third quarter that put Carthage up to stay, 31-24. Hipchen also broke up a pass and recorded four tackles. He is an Exercise and Sport Science major.

On a side note, UWEC plays @ U Whitewater this weekend. I was hoping to get a gauge on NCC by seeing how the Bluegolds do against #1 after getting dominated in Naperville. UWEC lost badly to UW Platteville last weekend which makes me thing the only thing we will know after this week is that UWW is still the 800lb gorilla in their own conference.

The WIAC comon opponent scores seem to indicate Wheaton is a 45 pt favorite over NCC! :o :o

So, you're willing to give 45 points on November 6? I think you'd have a lot of takers for that bet.

I think we already know that UWW is the 800lb gorilla in the WIAC. They toyed with Stout for a half last Saturday, before totally dominating them. The only weaknesses UWW has are their top two tailbacks are less than 100% and their kicker has a confidence problem.

I certainly didn't say I would giving any points.

And this isn't about UWW. I think they have a board for that discussion. Obviously NCC fans are hoping UWEC plays UWW tough as they have aspirations of climbing that mountain. Wheaton fans were hoping Platteville kept it close with UWW but we all knew that wouldn't happen. 2-0 vs the WIAC doesn't mean a thing in September, it only counts in December.

Gregory Sager

The cheeseheads should be especially scared of UWW being the 800-pound gorilla, since that's twice the size of a normal adult male gorilla.

I would advise all blonde chicks to stay out of Whitewater, WI, lest they get swept up by an oversized simian and carried to the top of a tall building.

I'll take that bet Usee!  ;)  ;D

I know what you are saying with that.  I am one of those that hoped UWEC played well against them.

If I was in the business of setting spreads for this weekends games I would say:

NPU (+31pts) @ Wheaton
Elmhurst @ IWU (+3.5)
Augie (+2.5) @ Carthage
Millikin (+29) @ NCC
