People you can criticize Crackel all you want, but at last check  NC is still perfect and that is the stat I would look at the most.

Jaybird:
I believe "people" is only Lakeshore. The rest of the post comments concerning Crackel are supportive not critical.

Its no secret that I back North Central. Especially on the basketball side, some posters no doubt think I am sometimes, lets say, overzealous in my praise/support of the Cardinals.
To this end, many of you will likely be surprised at this post. However, I feel compelled to comment. I realize its not very conventional to call out fellow supporters of the same team you root for. But, in this instance, I think its necessary. Also while greatly overstepping my bounds, I would like to offer an apology to the Carthage football team.
You see, the problem I'm referring to was the behavior of some North Central "fans"
during the Cardinal-Red Men football game a couple of weeks ago. Specifically 3 idiots in particular. I don't know who these guys are--they're quite possibly ex NCC footballers. They were occupants of the North end zone during the game. This is territory frequented by many former players during NCC football games, the vast majority of who are ardent NCC backers and also great fans and gentlemen.  Judging from their reactions, I'd say many of them were shocked and irritated to say the least over the behavior by the 3 individuals in question. I noticed many of the other fans vacated the area.
Specifically, at one point NCC was on about the Carthage 3 or 4 yard line. The CC backers and DBs were lined up on the goal line and in the north end zone just a few feet in front of the jackasses in question. These "fans" were hurling insults of a very personal nature at the CC defenders. It was loud, and it was steady over the course of several minutes. I won't repeat what was said here. Suffice it to say they crossed the line in terms of the language they used and the personal nature of said language.
I don't know the names of the 3 jokers, but can describe them:
1. Blue Michigan jacket with "Michigan" in yellow letters across the back.
2. Black shirt with football laces on the front and a tan hat worn backwards.
3. Shiny black Nike jacket with a Cubs hat worn backwards.

I hope the NCC "security" staff keeps an eye out for these guys in the remaining games and kicks their butts out if there is any such additional insanity.
Again, one NCC fan's apologies to the Red Men.

On behalf of the Red Men team I'm rewarding you with a +K for your polite gesture.

Stagg Again!!

To complete the comparison, I went back to see the statistics from Kam Kniss' first four games as a starter and added them to the chart (and corrected the Comp. v. Att. headers).  Kniss' games were against IBC, Colorado College, Franklin, and AC in 2002 when he was a green-bean freshman.  Again, Fanthorpe's first four games were against NPU, WC, EC, and MC and Crackel's were against OC, UWE, CC, and AC.

Passing              Comp.      Att.      %       INT     Yds.      TDs
Fanthorpe           54        91          .593     4         802      8
Crackel               47        85          .552     0         746      8
Kniss                  34        74          .459     2         463      2

Rushing            Att.      Yds      Yds/Carry      TDs
Fanthorpe         57        266        4.66           3
Crackel             22        112        5.09           2
Kniss                20        58         2.90           1

Hard to believe that they let Kniss back onto the field for a fifth game given how poor his numbers were in comparison to Brad Crackel's.  ;D  And to think, Kam went on to become NCC's all-time passing leader with 10,266 yards!!

On a side note, UWEC plays @ U Whitewater this weekend. I was hoping to get a gauge on NCC by seeing how the Bluegolds do against #1 after getting dominated in Naperville. UWEC lost badly to UW Platteville last weekend which makes me thing the only thing we will know after this week is that UWW is still the 800lb gorilla in their own conference.

The WIAC comon opponent scores seem to indicate Wheaton is a 45 pt favorite over NCC! :o :o

Correction: UW-W is @ UW-EC. There are some implications that are potentially important in that fact that you guys may not be aware of.  ;)

One thing Crackel definitely has going for him is his last name. "Crackel" sounds like a solid QB name.

Sure. It's the sound Jay Cutler's bones make as he's getting hit every other time he drops back to pass.

While I laughed at loud at this one, it is "painfully" true for any Bears fan.

AO,

While some of this stuff does cross the line sometimes, it isn't much different at other schools.  Have you ever been to a game at IWU, Carthage, Augie, Millikin?  It isn't a whole lot different.  I have been to basketball games as well and much of the same goes on there.  The North Park basketball faithful will give you an earful any time you take a trip down there as you well know.  All I'm saying is you can't single out any of the schools for the same things that go on everywhere else!  Go Cards!!

If you think those guys were really that bad, you should go to a game at Franklin College. Not only do you have a cannon going off in your ear every 30 seconds, but their fans are ruthless.

Bleedpurple- I like your blog and look at it regularly. Great information there and a lot of time to put it together. Thanks!

As for levels, I like the concept and agree there are at least 3 levels. After that I think it gets foggy. I also think you need to be careful adjusting levels on a week to week basis. I don't think there is enough information to make those distinctions weekly. As an example you moved Wheaton down based on their performance against Elmhurst. What we don't know is if elmhurst is a lot better than we expect or Wheaton isn't as good. We do know that the CCIW is a tough place to play and a road win is hard to come by. Another example is the Iowa conference. We know that a team who survives that conference and wins is a dangerous team come playoff time (capable of winninga couple playoff games). Problem in the IIAC is you never know which team will emerge year to year.

Wheaton my end up as a tier 2-3 (your system) this year but they are still evolving. Elmhurst is very good on defense but has some young guys they are working in.

I think your ratings make for good discussion points but not many folks are interested in discussing football these days on the boards. :(

Since when is it ok to allow abusive behavior just because it happens elsewhere? Why can't you single out your own school? I don't think this is acceptable behavior and certainly not because "...it isn't any different than other schools". If this happens it should not be tolerated in my opinion and kudos for AndOne for singling these guys out. I agree with him and hope NCC (and anywhere else this happens) continues to enforce the rules. There isn't any excuse for  any kind of abusive behavior.

Abusive is so far an over the top exaggeration!  I forgot we are in a state of panic across the country about bullying!  I was there also and am talking about the F bombs when I referred to "crossing the line".

CardinalAlum- I obviously wasn't there so am going off the description of AndOne. I trust his observational ability (most of the time :) ) and his description of individuals calling out players in a personal attack.  I would consider abusive and inappropriate. Not only for the players (who most of the time have no idea what's going on outside of the lines) but also for any fan standing nearby.  My point stands. If anyone is yelling F-bombs from an area that is reserved for alums and representatives of the school, that's not a good reflection of that institution and shouldn't be allowed regardless of how common it is.
