Il Gator- I would be careful with a statement like "no one will consistently drive the field on them". It may happen and it certainly can happen. There are teams equally or more talented than Naperville out there.

Hopefully the NCC players aren't as high on themselves as ILGator.  That could be trouble right there.   ;D

I am quite certain this a level-headed defense. They are very talented, but good teams are able to put together sustainable drives.  The key will be limiting big plays (not missing tackles and blowing coverages) and timely turnovers.

I'm sure the NCC players have the correct perspective.  My point was more about ILGators.  If the team did have that mindset, it would be trouble.  Fans do have the latitude to be a bit more hyped up.

What??   As fans, are we not always objective in our analysis??  :)

Way too early playoff pairing speculation:

CCIW #1 vs Benedictine
Trine vs Case Western
ONU vs Witt
CCIW #2 vs Franklin

MUC goes east and UWW stays West.

Option 2 is Mt Union stays North:

Mt Union vs. Case
CCIW #1 v Benedictine
Trine v Witt
CCIW #2 v ONU

Franklin gets shipped south or you could ship Benedictine West and sub Franklin.

If Benedictine gets in, can't we just send North Park to beat them again?!!   ;D

On a serious note, your first scenario is surely a spot I would love to see NCC in as the # 1!!  CCIW #2 is quite a bit of a tougher path!

Ah, I love the smell of Bell Week in the morning.  The Naperville school bragging about recent success.  Wheaton talking about overall record in the series.  The team that wears New Balance pointing to the spot in the trophy case where the bell currently resides.  Wheaton indicating that the school with the red bird mascot is simply keeping it warm for them.

Should be a very interesting game.  Right now the advantage appears to be in the school that is further south than Wheaton favor.  Their defense seems to be stopping everyone at this point.  Will Wheaton's defense be able to neutralize the Naperville school's offense to keep the game in reach?

IMO, if Wheaton commits penalties at the same clip they have been, the school with the President named Harold R. Wilde will win by at least 10.

It could also happen that Case Western doesn't get in and Univ of Chicago or WashU is a pool B. U chicago would be in North Bracket but WashU could go North or South. May not be any of those 3 and you would then keep Franklin/Benedictine North.

CCIW Players of Week announced:

QuoteNAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan's Brien Rooney, along with Wheaton's Tyler Langs and Scott Roche were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Rooney, a senior quarterback from Western Springs, Ill., and Fenwick High School, accounted for 225 yards of the Titans' 359 yards of total offense in Illinois Wesleyan's 24-14 win over Millikin on Saturday. Rooney, who played the entire game despite an ankle injury sustained in the first half, completed 14-of-24 passes for 120 yards and rushed 19 times for a total of 105 yards with a long run of 25. Rooney now has 4,058 career total offensive yards, which ranks No. 8 all-time at Illinois Wesleyan. He is a Business major.

Langs, a senior cornerback from Climax, Mich., and Climax-Scotts High School, intercepted three Augustana passes on Saturday in Wheaton's 20-14 victory against the Vikings. Langs' three interceptions were returned for a total of 102 yards. He also led the Thunder with a team-high eight total tackles, all solo stops. He deflected an Augustana pass on fourth down in the closing seconds to stop the Vikings' final offensive play of the game and give Wheaton the ball back and the victory. Langs is a History major.

Roche, a junior kicker from Evergreen, Colo., and Faith Christian High School, made four field goals in Wheaton's win over Augustana. He was four-for-four on the day, including a 25-yarder in the first quarter. In the second quarter, he kicked a career-long, 52-yard boot and converted a 42-yard field goal as time expired to end the first half. His fourth field goal was a 32-yarder with 7:22 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut Augustana's lead to 14-12. Roche is a Geology and Business/Economics major.

Holy smoke, quiet on the board overnight.  I'll throw out some topics to get the conversation going again.  Enjoy*

Norm Eash is the best coach in the conference.
Augustana never should have ditched the Wing T.
Decatur has the best bars for Millikin students to attend.
The most recent Elmhurst helmet is the ugliest in the conference.
Red and white is far inferior to Blue and Orange.

*Opinions above are for conversation only and are not necessarily endorsed by matblake  ;)

I think it's safe to say Mount will end up going out East again...just b/c there is no clear #1 team out there. Especially since the Montclair St. loss on Saturday.

02WH-

I think that is a real possibility but you also have Wesley as a possible #1 w UMHB so it could happen that Wesley goes East, UMHB is South #1 and Mt Union stays North. I think Mt going east is the likely scenario but keeping them in the North isn't out of the question.

Crackel & Stanek had drastically different games against Elmhurst.

If Stanek had his average completion rate instead of 100% and take away Crackel's single completed pass for an 88 yard TD, the wild card in the Pick-Em's might have been close.   :(

Passing               Att-Cmp-Int Yds TD Long Sack
-------------------------------------------------------------
Crackel, Brad         8-1-0          88  1   88    2
Stanek, Spencer    7-7-0         127  2   48    2

Minus the single pass completion, a pretty brutal game for Crackel.

Does anyone from NCC have a guess as to which QB will start on Saturday?  (I'm sure Wheaton is preparing for either one).

obviously the Naperville Coach is not so enamored with either of his qb's that he wouldn't make a change during a game for underperformance. Wheaton would love to see rotating qb's on Saturday.

Another stat from last Saturdays game against Elmhurst that has me just a bit nervous:

Rushing           No Gain Loss  Net TD Lg  Avg
---------------------------------------------------------
Williams, Scott 10   14   14      0     1  7  0.0

The NCC defense absolutely stuff Williams, yet Williams had a huge day against Wheaton.

Rushing           No Gain Loss  Net TD Lg  Avg
--------------------------------------------
Williams, Scott 30  162    3     159  1 21  5.3

Now granted Williams had 15 carries for 105 yards in the first half when Wheaton clearly was not playing well.  He had 15 more carries in the second half for only 54 yards, so they played much better against him in the 2nd half.

Wheaton can NOT afford to take a half off in any phase of their game - which has happened several times this year.   By this I don't mean effort but rather execution.
