What are Augie's chances of hosting two playoff games at
9-1?   I would assume they are pretty good

Go Thunder:
Thank you very much.  I'll give it a try and see if I can do it :-\!

Great job Augie, I wish I could have been at the game...got stuck in Willowbrook for some training with USAW.  Huge win today, and to think I only put they'd win by 1!  Playoffs here we come!  What are the chances that NCC gets Mounted?

Mr. Ypsi

Depends on how leaden your foot is (!), but 2.5-3 hours should do it.

Augie6

My foot must be a little heavier than Mr. Ypsi's.  I typically make it down to Augie from Wheaton in a little over 2 hours.

Mr. Ypsi

I figure the I-80 time at just under 2 hours; the surface street time may vary by location!  (I've actually never made that trip, but have done the I-80 portion of it frequently - the rest was a guess!)

Go Thunder:

If you are going to Rock Island I suggest taking I80 instead of I88.  They will take about the same amount of time, but on I88 there is a huge speed trap between Mile Markers 40-10.  I have received 3 tickets in that area and the fastest I have traveled was 8 mph over the speed limit. The times I drive 115 mph nothing happens but I got pulled over going 71 in a 65 mph on Christmas Eve.

For any of the Wheaton fans:

There were some Augie fans (mostly older people around 50ish I would say) that were denied being able to sit on the Wheaton side of the field when the bleachers were filled on the Augie side.  The student marshall said that only Wheaton fans or alumns were able so sit over there.  There were plenty of seats on the side closer to the scoreboard, and I was wondering if that happens at all games or were they just not happy with the way the game was going? I for one didn't mind standing, but if people needed to sit I think they should have been able to.  Is this a normal policy, because when I went to the Wheaton playoff game last year I stood on the MSJ side for awhile before sitting in the Wheaton bleachers without a problem later in the game.

What a season.  After being picked to be 4th and saying that no one could go undefeated in the CCIW Augie have proved both wrong.  Congrats guys and celebrate safe tonight.  We got to look forward to the start of a new season come next saturday.

Didn't have the "pleasure"  :'( of being in Wheaton today, but I have just reviewed the box score.  From what I've read so far in today's posts, sounds like Augie played a great game, and the better team prevailed.  However, just take a look at the pathetic offensive stats Wheaton put up.  In brief summary:  5 interceptions for a total of 96 yards, one fumble run back for a 25 yard TD.  A whopping 60 something yards passing the ball.  3/13 thrid down conversions, and only 25:41 time of possesion.  I've gotta ask the tough question, and I'll ask Go Thunder since he saw some of the practice this last week.  In what way were they prepared for this game?  Someone who was there, were all these offensive miscues forced by a just to powerful Augie D?  I'm hearing echos of coach Swider yelling at me in game films and practice . . . "That's terrible!"

Sorry to sound so negative, and I in no way mean to take anything away from Augie.  I've said before I underestimated them this year, something no one should ever do (e.g. every graduating class winning a cciw title).  I'm just dumbfounded by this.  Somebody who was there, help me feel better about this, please! >:(

Oops, maybe the out-of-state guy should cease answering driving-time questions!  I forgot there even WAS an I-88 (didn't exist when I lived there!), but have a sister near RI, so just figured the I-80 time from straight south of Wheaton to RI, then guessed the surface-street times. :-[

Sterny:

Wheaton was driving down 21-7 and threw a pick that was returned 70+ yards to the Wheaton 10. Augie scored to go up 28-7 midway through the 3rd quater and the game was basically over then.  Augie continued to run down the clock, and Wheaton continued to just throw the ball in the air. Late in the 4th quarter it was hard to determine who exactly the Wheaton qb was throwing to because a couple of the picks went right to the Augie secondary. One of the posters said the game was closer than the score indicated, but I don't think that was really true.  Augie jumped out to a 21-0 lead, and Wheaton gained a little momentum going into the 2nd half, but after the above mention pick Wheaton was not into the game on the offensive side of the ball. The D played great shutting down the running attack in the 2nd half, but the O couldn't move the ball either.

Mr. Yepsi:
You are pretty accurate with travel times.

Thanks for the insight augiedogie and Go Thunder.  As a former defensive lineman, I suspected that Augie's control of the trenches was probably key.  I hope the passing game gets worked out for next year for Wheaton.  btw, thanks for the helmet link Go Thunder.

guys, lets be realistc. wheaton's defense played great. augie is averaging 400 yds a game and we gave up 202. 80 on the first drive. that is some really good defense. our offense only put up 212 yds total. the biggest difference in the game was simple, turnovers. augie had 0 and wheaton had 6. augie turned 3 of those into 21 pts. the line of scrimmage was a pretty even draw in my book. wheaton's defense actually took it to augie in the second half but they continued to play mistake free and capitalized on wheaton's mistakes. if wheaton didn't turn the ball over this game would have gone down to the last seconds.

it looked like chupp got hurt in the first quarter. he left in the second series and didn't return. that hurt a lot once wheaton got down because he is the much better passer. augie deserved to win and deserves all the praise.

Congratulations to the CCIW Champs Augustana.  ;D

In regards to the second TD.
I think Zeifert was getting a very big thank you from his teammate and I believe Coach Barnes was correct in chewing on the RB. It was to risky at 7-0. I also think the big smile on Zeifert's dad was priceless.

I heard talk that Augie may play Monmouth if they are moved from the West to the North. Any chance of that?
