43-0 NCC with 11 minutes left in the third quarter

Mugsy

Final in Wheaton.  22 straight points by Wheaton in an 8 minute span in the end of the 3rd quarter/early in 4th to erase a 21-9 deficit.

Yet another significant comeback by Wheaton. Can't count these guys out.

Wheaton out gains Coe 200 to 23 from the 5 minute mark of the 3rd quarter.

Jordan Roberts a huge game with a broken finger on his passing hand. 18 of 24 for 221 yards, 2 TDs, 13 carries for 89 yards (though only a net of 52 due to 5 sacks).

Wheaton 31
Coe 21

It's amazing how fast a game can change.  Wow.

When the 4th Q opened Wheaton was down 21-9.  It looked and felt like Coe's players wanted the game more, and it seemed like Wheaton was losing the X's and O's matchup badly.  Based on how the game had played out up until that point, I can't imagine Wheaton fans felt very good down 21-9.

Then about 15 minutes of real time later, the Thunder were in complete control of the game.

Great job by the WETN broadcast team - enjoyed watching the game.

No contest today, not even a game.   NC was dominating on both sides of the ball.  Stanek looked great, had a good statistical day.  I dont have much more analysis to give on the game.
Ohio Northern should be a great game next week..looking forward to it.

Congrats on the CCIW going 2-0 today.  Hopefully next week is the same.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Likewise for the OAC, though that was pretty much expected.

Mugsy, I trust your "likewise" sentiments toward the OAC extend only to the "congrats" and not the "next week" wishes!

Absolutely!  You are correct.  I'll be pulling for the CCIW next week.

Mr. Ypsi

Half the remaining field comes from just four conferences, as the CCIW, OAC, MIAC, and NJAC all went 2-0 today.  The day was not quite so pleasant for the other two conferences with two teams, as the IIAC and ODAC both went 0-2.

Next week the CCIW goes h-2-h with the OAC and MIAC pool C teams.  Pool C did as well as the schedule-makers allowed, going 4-2 with both losses to other pool C teams.

A lot of lop-sided games today as is the norm for round 1.  Most games should be much more competitive from here on out.

Staneck Looked great running the ball but has a very inaccurate arm and misses a lot of open recievers.  The tight end is so big that anyone can hit him when he is 20 yards downfield hence the Two TD's.  On the long pass the reciever had to stop turn around and wait for the ball.  After that the game was a route.  Krackel looked good passing as he has been much more accurate than Staneck all year.  Then again SNU was demoralized from the time it was about 30-0 til the end.  Glad Krackel is healthy now so he can be available next week

Coach Jeff Thorne is not afraid to pull either player if they are not effective or are not 100% healthy.  It has happened to both QB's this year.  I like that we have two solid QB's that can run this offense.

Krackel got pulled for injury, after replacing Staneck for being ineffective.  I don't believe Staneck should be replaced but I believe if NCC is having trouble running the ball Staneck is a weak passer and the Cards will need to put in Krackel to move the ball

Great game in Wheaton today. Brad Boyle, the COe qb, is the real deal. He is 6' 4" and as good as any qb the CCIW has seen in while (jones, Lee, Fanthorpe included). He is a great player. 2x MVP in the IIAC and he is just a JR. He has 19 rushing TDs and threw for 24 tds on 6 INT's this year. Unfortunately for Coe his pick #6 came at a very inopportune time. With the Thunder trailing 21-9 after a long TD drive by Coe, Wheaton's offense goes 3 and out and Coe takes over promptly moving the ball to midfield. Thunder LB Cory Hart steps in front of a Boyle slant pass at the Coe 48 and the Thunder take the ball down and score near the start of the 4th quarter to make it a 21-16 game. Coe is now going into a stiff breeze and the THunder D forces a 3 and out (of which there weren't many today). A 16 yd punt and the Thunder get the ball at the Coe 48 yd line. Next play Roberts goes up top to Freddy Ellis and just like that the Thunder lead 24-21 (2pt conversion good). From that point the Thunder were in complete control. TOP was heavily in Wheaton's favor 37minutes to 22minutes. Thunder ran the ball for 185 and had 409 yds in offense to 344 for Coe.

Congrats to the Coe Kohawks. They are a very good team from a good conference. Boyle is a great player and there are many skill players for Coe that are impressive. They will be very good in 2011.

Now it's on to the Bethel Royals, who I imagine feel like they have unfinished business against Wheaton. The THunder beat them in 2008 in a downpour and then again in 2009 on the last play of the game (literally). This will be a physical war between two well coached teams.

Also going to be a huge grudge match (rubber game?) over in Naperville. Wenger and company will have a chip on their shoulder for that one.
