I remember when the only Cardinal fans posting on here were Cardalum and myself.  The rest of Cardinal Nation are bandwagon fans!  :)

Washdup, I'd have to believe we started about the same time  ;D

I have looked into this and believe I can settle this little dispute quite exactly:

Washdup started on this board approximately June 17, 2003 at 10.56am and
RobertGoulet started on here on or about November 5th, 2004 at 9:32pm

so almost a 1.25 yr spread between you two. Capiche?

For the record, I have been posting since my playing days a decade ago (that was not wise).  However, my handle wouldn't really apply until I retired.

There are so many who have come and gone in those fine years.  I'm feeling nostalgic now....

From an outsider's perspective, this is good stuff.  If you're going to get off the subject of Satuday's game, this is the way to do it.

Good laughs.

It would be naive to think the players dont read these posts...always looking for their name, seeing what people are saying about their chances, matchups, etc.     I would say that most coaches make an emphasis to never post and more than likely not to read it at all.

It's been a few years, but I know that when I played every player and coach read religiously.  It was what we all did if we got dressed early before our meetings in the computer lab on the second floor of the stadium.  And coaches made mention of it several times in speeches during my years there: "I know you all have read what they are saying on D3..." etc.  As far as posting, it was never mentioned, but I believe that's because it was never an issue.  We always just knew not to post without being told not to and nobody questioned it.

Then there is a whole separate class of bashful and quiet types (such as myself  ;D ::)) who just took a bit longer to dip their toes into the water, but are long time followers of specific CCIW programs.  Kovo86 is most likely from a similar cut of cloth -- I am sure he is at every Cardinal home game or follows the games from his own home on nctv17.com or by way of Livestats!!

"Good" article about NCC on the D3football.com com website:

http://www.d3football.com/playoffs/2010/who-is-north-central

I would take take the word "controversially" out of the second to last paragraph, and add at least ONE sentence about the offense, and then it would be a "great" article.

NCC's rushing offense is ranked #21 and its scoring offense is ranked #17 -- these guys are no schlocks.  They can score and score quickly.  It was amazing how fast the momentum changed in last week's game, and then it was over.  The Cardinals scored two touchdowns within 4:29 (on the game clock) at the end of the second quarter (131 total yards in 3:39 TOP), and put the game out of reach with a 2:49, 64 yard drive early in the 3Q.  After NCC went up 21-3 and Donley got laid out by Wenger for a second time, ONU seemed to be done (from my perspective).

I am sure that the WC fans would attest to how this Cardinal team can either score quickly or how they can use clock and dominate TOP.  I am sure that there are a few Thunder/Crusader posters who still have nightmares every time they hear the name Fiedorowicz, for example.

Stagg, completely agree with your assessment of the NCC offense. A couple of pages ago, I pointed out that this years NCC offense is in the top 10 in just about every category for season totals. The big element that you brought up that I think has helped them out is controlling the TOP and frustrating defenses with that. In years past, it was much more of an up tempo attack with an emphasis on scoring quickly and often. Coach (Jeff) Thorne's goals for us when I was playing was 300 yds passing, 200 yds rushing and 40 points. Not sure if he still talks about that but I am willing to bet he does.

Some thoughts on the article.....

I was impressed with the last paragraph. Wenger, as the leader of the team, is clearly focused on something bigger, and coming from the CCIW, which has been absent in Salem in recent times, this is exactly the mindset that is needed to get to the next level where all of the purple seems to be at.

I also thought about depth. I wonder if the reduced # of dressed players for the playoffs had any effect on NCC's rotation for offense and defense, those last few roster spots for the playoffs are always tough to fill. But to my real thought on depth...does NCC have the depth of UWW? Will NCC have to rely on that 1st string all afternoon on Saturday to win? Rotations are good, but you need your key players and stars to play at the important times (that's why they are your stars). I wonder what the rotations will be on Saturday.

cardfan86

No, I really doubt NCC has the depth that UW-W does, and I would expect to see more rotations on the defensive side of the ball than offensively. As the article points out, NCC does a lot of rotating with the defensive line. They do a little bit with their linebackers and DBs (although not very much). On the offensive side of the ball, they have at least 3 capable running backs in the game at any point, but Tassio and Kukuc get most of the time.

I have really noticed how much the rotation has helped NCC this year, especially on the DL. Hayes and Garza seem so fresh and quick in the 4th quarter that the bigger OL, just can't keep up with them any more. It's really good to see.

Most of the rotations will be with the D-line, the LB's and DB's not so much, but it will depend on how the game plays out. There will still be certain packages on D that will stay the same so you will see players rotate in when UWW gets into the Red Zone.

Well, after reading the board for a long time, I figured now is as good as ever to join in. I think the world could always use some more green tinted glasses, especially to compliment all of the new red that is posting during this holiday season.

I am hoping for a great game in Naperville this Saturday and as much as I like the CCIW and root for the conference to have post-season success, I am leaning towards the Warhawks on Saturday. Having played against both teams recently, I don't know if NCC can put together a perfect, turnover-less and avoidable penatly-less 60 minutes (and then some if needed) to beat UWW.

As for my resume (which is obviously important),   ;) - 12 years of playing and a Bachelor's degree from the finest instiution in Bloomington is all I have  ;D

Wow.  A number of new posters recently.  AWESOME!  About time for some fresh perspective.

Welcome aboard.  Your credentials allow you free reign here, except for disagreeing with anyone with more that 1000 posts.   ;D  Just kidding...

We now have another IWU fan with which to gauge reality, as opposed to what Mr. Ypsi gives us.   :P

Always.A.Titan, as to Mugsy's crack about posts, you and I together have more posts than Mugsy and USee together, so I guess they have to defer to US! ;D

Mugsy, I've gotten a lot more realistic recently.  This year the Titans won the 7 I expected them to, and lost the 3 I feared (though I had strong hope against Augie).

I think Mr. Ypsi brings up a great point. That is some very sound and grounded logic.  If you add in Titan Q, this may be the best trio since LeBron brought his talents to South Beach ;D ;D ;D

I would love to post more on the football board, and with one more Titan, we could have a starting 5, but alas, living in TX precludes me from catching any CCIW action in the fall unfortunately.  Without actually seeing any games, I don't have the prescient ability of Ypsi to add much anything of value, especially when my post-collegiate years are now in the teens.  Zoinks! (Wasn't someone quoting Screech earlier?)

I do try to catch some Trinity games down here a couple times a year, but they would be an average CCIW team at best, so I must live vicariously through the CCIW post patterns.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!
