I guess I could have just went to the NCC website to see if it was posted. Laziness on my part.

Nothing scary about that non-conference schedule.

Little Studebaker love from SI.com's Don Banks (article regarding Under the Radar Gems for 2011):

Marc Schiechl, DE, Colorado School of Mines

Somebody's going to find a roster spot for this undersized (6-2, 260 pounds) defensive end who can rush the passer all game, every game. NFL teams will stand him up over tackle as a situational rush linebacker, a role the small-school senior playmaker will be well-suited for after breaking the NCAA's Division II career sack record last season with 46, and finishing fourth all-time with 70½ tackles for loss. Schiechl reminds some of Chiefs linebacker Andy Studebaker, a sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2008. Studebaker, a product of Wheaton (Ill.) College, has carved out a decent three-year NFL career for himself after transitioning from a similar play-making role as an undersized defensive end in college.

It's always good to see some love for D3 football athletes. Then again, sometimes these guys get over looked by the "big programs" and are just itching for a chance to prove it. Looks like Schiechl did just that, 3 years - good for him.

would have like MU to start fresh and hire from a successful outside program.  I'm all for QB talk during the off season.  Any notable battles in the best QB conference in the country?

Augie - David Lee - SR - one of the best in the league probably due for a big fall
Carthage - TJ Trepanier - SO - currently only QB listed on the Redmen website
Elmhurst - Joe Furco - JR - returns for 3rd year as starter and should be solid with most of the starters returning.  Elmhurst is the 2011 sleeper pick.
IWU - Robert Galik - SO - back up last fall will battle 3 others for starting job.  No experience at this position for the Titans.
Millikin - Luke Hockaday - SR & Matt Holmes - JR - not sure of Hockaday will return post concussion.  No skill players returning for Big Blue.
North Central - Spencer Stanek - JR & Brad Crackel - JR - more will be asked of these two players in the 2nd seasons as starters.
North Park - Tyler Krebs - SO - decent runner who had a big game vs. CC needs to develop passing game for Vikes to have any real shot.  No player threw a TD pass for NP in '10.
Wheaton - Jordan Roberts - JR - favorite to win 2011 CCIW OPOY.  He is due for a breakout fall.  Should have been All-CCIW in '10.

One More:

Regarding the U of Michigan/Michigan State rivalry, that obviously has always been a very heated one.  I realize the arrogance issue that many State fans always talk about with regard to Michigan.  I have to admit that many Michigan people do exert that, however, I also have to say that many Michigan State people do as well.  Also, while some can point to the troubles Michigan has had with some of the rules/regulations in recruiting, academic issues, etc. (the Fab Five/Ed Martin debacle, RichRod, etc.), this does not compare (IMO) to the lack of control and subsequent consequences that Michigan State coaching staff has failed to oversee the latter i.e. lack of consequences and accountability for such behavior (and just another example was just this late fall in football) that has occurred over the years with regard to this off-the-field miscreant (and in some cases downright criminal) activity that some of their football players have committed.

Nonetheless, for years (actually overall in the decades, save for the great teams that Michigan State had in the late '60's), as some of you have pointed out, Michigan has dominated the football scene and...they actually did for many years prior to the Izzo period i.e. with the Cazzie Russell era (save for Jud Heathcoat's National Championship with Ervin Johnson and company - although remember Michigan had their National Championship some near ten years later also).  Yet, it is this rivalry and, in the heated times of the moments, that this arrogance on both sides comes out.  All that being said, I admit that I am a Michigan fan and always will be, as my dad was an alum and I "grew up Michigan".  However, I do like the rivalry and have respect for it.  Moreover, my brother's sons entered into that picture as one recently graduated from Michigan and the younger one is now a student at Michgian State, so it is fun to have "those discussions" at times.  I joked to my brother one time that "dad would turn over in his grave" if he knew that my youngest nephew was now attending Michgian State! ;D Just kidding, though, because I know dad already knows that. Besides, my nephew is getting a great education, loves the school and campus and it is fun to tease and participate in the rivalry with him.  As we all know, there will always be "this stuff" i.e. heated rivalry with college athletics regardless of what division level it as at - heck, we have that even at Div. III.  But that is what makes it interesting and in the end, I think all of us know what is the real importance is in the end after all of that.  Just MO.

I always enjoy the Division III letter of intent signing ceremony...

I wonder what exactly was on the paper he was signing?

Here is a video of Stephen Surgener...

Not sure if he is considered a significant recruit or not...just kind of stumbled across this via Google.

I have absolutely no idea who IWU's starting QB will be...and I'm guessing the coaching staff doesn't either.  Seems like it's wide open, between a bunch of guys with absolutely no experience...

(Class year listed is for 2011-12 school year)

* Robert Galik (6-2/190 So, St. Rita H.S.) - http://www.iwusports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1412&path=football

* Dylan Sturgeon (6-3/200 So, Tolono-Unity H.S.) - http://www.iwusports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1465&path=football

* Mike Wismer (6-4/210 So, Moline H.S.) - http://www.iwusports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1473&path=football

* Alex Hale (6-2 Fr, Mount Carmel (IL) H.S.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3O93VOLY_Y

The good news is that I believe all of these guys were good Division III recruits, so there is talent to pick from...but tough to have such little returning experience at QB.

It always strikes me as the adolescent male version of having your picture taken while sitting on Santa's lap at the department store. And it has roughly the same amount of reality in it as well.

Given that NPU is going to keep using the option in 2011, I'm much more concerned with how well Krebs runs than with how well he passes.
