Cardinalalum:

Thanks for the list of all conference.  I feel that Jeremy Hall # 72 for Augie should have been atleast 2nd team all conference,  and I was surprised to see him not on the list. Other than that, no complaints about the list.

having said all that there is one hidden disadvantage for ncc and augie, in particular augie: film exchange. the rule is the last two games each opponent has played. for augie opponents they can't get any better tape than v ncc and v wheaton. muc in second round its huge because augie gets muc v heidleberg and muskingum. ncc gets tape of cap v wilmington and john carroll (1 good film) while giving up v augie and v north park (1 good film). could be a pretty big hidden factor given the unfamiliarity of teams w ncc/ augie (muc excepted)

If you watch the augie/ncc film, you might get really worried about augie. augie was very close to blowing the game open - three second half turnovers allowed north central to stay in the game.

as for ncc, with the weather in the augie game, you really don't get a feel for their real offense. and the north park film is virtually useless. not only did the starters only play 2 1/2 quarters, but spencer wasn't involved in the game plan.

The Capital head coach was the OC at Illinois Wesleyan in the early 90s. He can brief his team on the stadium, although it was grass back then. On the other side, NCC could know a little bit about his tendencies (there is at least one coach remaining from those years).

It is tough to predict all-conference teams, but last year NCC had 1st teamers on D-  Radtke, Hare, Smith,   and on offense-   Kniss, Spencer.

Radtke is a lock, and I think that even though Hare and Smith didnt equal their stats from last year, not to mention that Bellz and Imbordino had great numbers for NCC as well, they should still be 1st teamers.

Kniss and Spencer are locks, and I believe Holden earned a 1st team spot this year as well.  Besides running for over 900 yards and 10 TD's, he was also a key component of our passing offense giving Kam more time in the pocket.  On the offensive line, I think the nod will go to whoever Thorne feels deserves it the most, because their really wasnt a clear cut stud on our O-Line (that I can think of).

Holden was a critical part of the offense 2 years ago and even last year. Stop Holden and North Central would have problems. With the development of Kniss, Holden played a lesser role than in his previous three years. Not a first teamer, and i'm even surprised that he was named to the 2nd team.

Hare is an undersized DE. He surprised people last year. Everyone underestimated him. This year, they made sure he was accounted for. Hare did not have the stats of 2004. I was surprised that he made 2nd team as well.

Smith missed two games with an injury and has been playing with a cast. He has still played well, not to his potential though, and several in the conference have played better. Someone in the secondary had to make it, and that worked out to be Bellizini. North Central had leads late in many games and their opponents threw a lot of balls up for grabs.

For those interested, I've posted the rules for a Playoff Pick-Em' contests over on the CCIW Pick-Em's board.  I apologize for not having a ton of time to invest in setting this up... so I basically borrowed from some of the other Pick-Em boards.

Check it out... umm... if you want too. :-\

How can you say that Holden did not deserve a second team spot, and Hare as well?  I know how big a part of our offense Steve was 2 years ago, and even his freshman year when he was a 1st teamer after our starting RB went down for the year after the 6th game of the season against IWU. He really only started 4 games that season and if you look at his numbers, they were sick. This year,  Holden was 4th in TD's and YPG and came up huge when the passing game was not getting it done for NC.  He is also a great blocking back, giving Kam time in the pocket.  He deserved at least a 2nd team spot.   Hare had decent numbers this season seeing as how most teams game plan for an All-American.  He was definitely worth his 2nd team pick.  I was glad to see Bellz get the 1st team spot.

Congratulations to all the Cards on your hard work earning these awards and good luck on Saturday!

cufan,

There are 4 pretty good bars that have pretty decent food about 2 Blocks west of the stadium on Chicago.  In the strip mall on the corner of Washington and Chicago, Bar Louie is pretty good and has lots of room.  Across the street, you will find the Lantern and Features next door.  Lantern is a popular NCC student/alumni hangout and I assume it will be packed.  Features is next door and is a large sports bar that has two large separate rooms plus pool tables.   Jimmy's is across the street, South of the Lantern.  This place is a little more laid back than the other places with an older crowd.  All 4 places have pretty good food.  Lantern is usually very smoky if that matters.

Congrats to all the players who earned CCIW All-Conf. recognition and the BLUEJAYS  :D    that were a member of the group.
Overall, I think the CCIW was right on with their selections.  Of course, there will always be players that felt like they were "snubbed" but you can't take everybody.
Carthage folks- I agree Cichon is just as talented as the LB's listed, but you can't take everybody... which is another sign of how talented and tough the CCIW really is.
Hopefully the NC game isn't go to be a freezer.  I froze my *** last year with Jim L. and Kelly Stewart's Mother last year at Wheaton vs. MSJ.
Couple more days till showtime!!

Cardinal Alum   hdont get me wrong Radtke is a great player. I would love to have him on my team. The thing is he would be at outside backer. He also is a player that benifts from the shceme they play and to be honest if you have watched some game and I mean actually watch him you would second guess all those tackles he is getting. The fact is the MLB position I would take both Pelkowski and Cichon yes. They consistantly knock the **** out of fullbacks in iso blocks and destroy pullers. They fill their holes and kill water is there. Watch these players play their positions and yes I think you would say too that Both those guys are better MLB's not to methion that Pelkowski and Cichon Play right next to eachother in the box they have to share all those tackles. Along with their blitzeing gap oriented deffense they are not always put into position to make the takle they are to blow up the puller and their Safteys scrap and make the play. Just take a step back and thinkl about the MLB position and all the greats in the past I think you would agree both better for the mlb position

There are more than 4 places within a 10 minute walk from the stadium where you can find cold drinks. There's another small place just past features. Rizzos a block north on Jefferson. And a number of restaurants where you can find cold drinks too!

ncc58

I'll agree the Pelkowski and Cichon fit the traditional model of a MLB. And they were key to Carthage having one of best defenses in the country. But the North Central defense complements their offense perfectly. I don't doubt Radtke's stats. He makes a lot of plays because the defense is designed for that. He also misses a lot of tackles. He lines up in the true MLB position maybe 60% of the time. But you better know where he is. He is a big play LB. Sacks. Interceptions. Fumbles, forced and recovered. Punt blocks

I really thought that Holden should have made the 1st team over Luna. That was my only "iffy", not to say that Luna was not deserving, but Holden was a tad better.  ::)

RedmenFB44

Having played against and hit all three linebackers (Pelkowski, Cichon, and Radke) I would say Pelkowski and Cichon hit harder than Radke. Yeah I know I played on the same team as those 2 but we had scrimmages, and trust me, were full go. However Radke is overall a better athlete. He is faster and makes more plays with his athletic ability. So I would say that the 3 of them play different styles of LBer. As for the CCIW all-conference picks, I think that they are right on. Yeah Cichon could have been a 1st team if there were 5 LB positions to fill. All three of those linebackers are tough and cause problems for any offense. To Cichon, Pelkowski, and Radke, congrats on a great carrers!
