I wouldn't overlook the challenge of playing at Redlands.

Redlands is ranked #22 in the Sporting News pre-season poll, #18 in the Lindy's poll, and appears in the "Others Receiving Votes" section of the D3Football poll.

North Central's game at Redlands certainly won't be a picnic in the park. Especially after a 1700 mile flight (Midway to Ontario, CA).

My bad, I did overlook that.

AndOne, do you know if they are only bringing a limited number of players, perhaps an NCAA playoff sized roster?  Also, are they flying commercial, or did they somehow manage to charter a flight (money from a rich benefator, door to door candy bar sales, athletes pay their own way, etc).

Midway to Ontario sounds like Southwest Airlines.

After NCC's trip to Ada, OH on 9/5/09, I wouldn't think that the Cardinals would overlook any of their early-season out-of-conference opponents!!  I know that  the NCC fans who attended that game against ONU will NOT be looking past Redlands.

Pat, it was good to see that sanity has prevailed after the Lindy's pre-season poll results.

While Pete Ittersagen has another unhill battle to make the Titan's squad this year, the current situation is very benefical to his chances.

Both starting CB's for the Titan's are not in camp.  Mouton hurt his achilles tendon last week and had season ending surgery.  The other corner, Finnigan, just left training camp on Saturday over a salary dispute.

I'm sure the Titan's will be looking to bring in some veteran CB's to fill the void, in fact they have already sign one.  The way this benefits Pete, more than anything, is to give him more reps.  The more reps he gets, the better opportunity to make an impression on the coaches.  If one were pessimistic, you could say it also provides a chance to expose liabilities.

I'm optimistic... get it done Pete.

Statements from Saturday's practice:

Defensive backs Alterraun Verner and Frank Walker each recorded interceptions in the red zone on Saturday.  In addition, cornerback Pete Ittersagen, who returns for his second year with the Titans, notched an interception and made a nice pass breakup in the end zone.

Does anybody know if Matt Wenger has a wrestling background?  I have been wanting to ask that question for a long time.  Every time I saw him play I noticed moves like a duck under to tackle or slip through blockers.  His linebacker stance and the way he moves also reminded me of wrestling.  I say this because wrestling made me a much better player and changed the way I played the game.  That there was always a technique I could use to counter what an opposing defender was doing.  It also is good for making a player a sure tackler.   I think a good drill for the off season might be to do some double leg, single leg, and firemens carry (duck under) take downs.  There are just so many benefits.  If I had to chose between lifting weights and wrestling to help me at football looking back I will take the wrestling.

Good luck to Pete! He is one of the best corners I ever played against. It is always good to see d3 and especially CCIW guys still playing football and living the dream. Hopefully we will see him out there this year impacting the game like we know he can.

NCC also plays NAIA Bethel, who should not be overlooked either. Their non-conference schedule is a significant upgrade from last season.

It is the first depth chart of the season (and it is the last depth chart before the season starts that counts), but Andy Studebaker is listed as 1st team OLB.

On a more important note, I'm looking forward to the start of training camp and hearing updates/prognostication across the CCIW board.  The season is upon us!

The Boys in Green report to camp today

The start of another season is upon us. I am excited to hear all of the reports and updates, for some new members to hop onto the boards, and for another competitive cciw season.

Go Green!
