I'm all for tradition and great, simple uniforms like Penn State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Alabama, etc.

That said, and I'm not saying anything about Auggie, just because a uniform is traditional, doesn't mean its good. There are some uniform colors and designs and logos that are just bad or very dated. This usually occurs when a team tries to make a new logo relevant and contemporary rather than timeless. Look no further than the color schemes of the Jags and Panthers. It just screams nineties, and not in a good way!

I see Augie is going to be unveiling a new logo?  Why?  I think longstanding, traditional logos are great.  Look at the Bears and Packers.  A simple C or G is recognizable, and the "less is more" approach is better.

Great story on Jenkins AAT.  I remember watching him prior to his injury and thought if he stayed healthy, he would be a beast.

I hope Augie isn't going to change their logo.  I love the tradition, and what  it represents.  When I see their helmets, I think of success and championships.

My curiousity is piqued.  I'd like to see what they came up with.  I hope that they update their website soon.  According to the school, they were supposed to unveil the new logo at noon.

The new Augie logo:

Eh... it's ok.  Better than a mastodon.   :-\

Augie literally being dismantled by Dubuque in the first half down 18-0.  When was the last time an Augie defense gave up over 300 yards of offense in one half including 192 rushing yards...WOW.  Lee very unimpressive 6-12 with an int.  Zwifel with 88 yards receiving for UD so far.

Augie is coming back.  I'm rooting for all the CCIW teams in non conference games.

DadofBashWarrior..

Is there anyone heading to the annual Wheaton Wabash scrimmage this year? I think it is this Saturday at noon at Wheaton...

That is what I heard and am planning on attending...if anyone knows that's not the correct info please let me know

I was planning on it, but our house is being re-roofed and I need to watch the roofing crew like a hawk to make sure they don't cut corners.  I don't know the specific time, but that has typically been the schedule.

I'll call the coaching staff tomorrow to find the exact time.

Looks like the Cushman era at Augie begins with a whimper, losing to a below average IIAC team at home.  I guess playing for a coach that the players "like" hasn't made much difference in their performance on the field.  Extremely disappointing.

Augie loses tonight, 18-13.  Tail of two halves, but Dubuque won the first half by more.  Not a positive start for Augie, particularly on defense - ouch!

Speaking of "ouch"... I've been holding onto this information for nearly a week.  I've been holding back because I'm always leary of giving up inside information.  However this will be very, very apparent at the scrimmage.

The key to Wheaton's offense is out for the season.  Jordan Robert's blew out his ACL last Friday and is lost for the year.  While Wheaton has two very capable backup QB's, anyone who watched Wheaton games last year knows Roberts makes Wheaton a far more dangerous offense.  He was a duel threat.  In my opinion, he would have been a potential candidate for OPOY in 11'.

What may be worse is that Wheaton lost their best offensive lineman to a broken ankle.  This was an area of biggest question for Wheaton, so this loss is very difficult.

Looks like Wheaton's character will once again be tested before the first snap of the first game.  I'm confident the coaching staff and players will find a way to get it done and won't make excuses.

It may be a "below average IIAC team" to you ... but its my alma mater.  GO SPARTANS!
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

I wouldn't necessarily call UD 'a below average IIAC team'. The last 5 years they've been almost the definition of average by IIAC standards. Their biggest problem has seemingly been closing out tight games. That said, for a program of Augie's historic stature, a loss like this at home definitely doesn't feel good.

Ugh! Those are some tough injuries to key players. At least it happened at a point where you'll be able to get medical hardships for the players and know from the start what lies ahead for the team. But man, that is not a fun way to start out the year.

Kickoff ranking doesn't think Dubuque is an average team.

Stagg Again!!

Tough luck for WC.  As you know, a similar thing happened to NCC two years back when Wenger went out very early in the first game at ONU.  The defense looked VERY disorganized for the duration of the game (12 men on the field penalties, blown coverages, etc.), but the season was not over, and I know it won't be over for the Crusaders/Thunder either.  While I would expect that the offense won't run as smoothly without Roberts initially, WC has a lot of weapons and depth.

What happened in the QC tonight?  Perhaps the pre-season coaches poll and the Kickoff rankings were spot on?  I would like to hear from some AC folks who were at the game.

NCC Caravan heads to LA LA-land tomorrow.  I will be intrigued to see how many of the Cardinal faithful make the long journey west.  The Cardinals should face an excellent test against an experienced team with a high-quality defense.  As I noted earlier, I will be focusing on:  1) the OL, 2) ILB, and 3) team speed.  Beyond the scoreboard, I will want to see if NCC can control TOP, how many Cardinals rotate through in a meaningful way, TFLs from the experienced DL, and how successful the "new Radke/Wenger" is at stepping into some big shoes.

Roberts being done for the year is a tough blow for Wheaton.  He was fun to watch in the couple games I caught last year and was/is one of the best in the CCIW.  I know Meador did start a few games in '10 so they are not without experience.

Augie broadcast was very poor last night....bad camera angles that absolutely could NOT follow the ball.  Augie fumbled twice in the second half to kill drives where they were moving the ball effectively and could have easily taken control of the game.  UD has some nice skill players.  Obviously Augie will be facing much tougher opponents throughout 2011 including next week vs. IIAC power Central.
