Sackattack

if sackattack is matt kelly then he must have grown to about 350 pounds and have been out of football as a player for at least 10 years and  a lot closer to 15.  I am a Jay alum, and i do think he deserved the nod as did keaton.

By the way, what makes jim barnes think his entire offensive line and defensive line deserve to be all cciw.

finally, Matt Roe should have been the Offensive player of the year for the cciw, and 1st team all cciw QB not Kam Kniss.

Last time I checked there was only one Augie O line man that made CCIW all conf....yeah I know your giong to tell me that there were two but Tom MacIntire is a out TE I don't know why he was put on there as an O Line man but If my memory serves me right there were only two Oline many one First or second team from augie...So get off of Barnes' Back,....Go worry about coaching your team to a CCIW victory some time soon....last time I checked this site was for fans not coaches to come on here and blast other coaches/players in teh conf.

I really think Kniss is a heck of a football player.  He is tough, smart, and a leader on the field--a real diamond, but i would have liked to see the senior Matt Roe get the award.

Given Augie ball is what Augie ball is you really can't find a better QB for the system.  Maybe he should have been 1st team all cciw as an RB and then he could have earned off player of the year.

I would also like to wish Augie and North Central Well this weekend.  I want to see the CCIW as 2-0 on saturday.

I guess i am not allowed to be a fan....

This is a great board,  I love the prognostication, comments, and discussion, and if football has a hot-stove forum...this is it.

I'm not taking a shot at Jim, just doing a little talking that what the board is for.

Anyway.  What a season in the CCIW.  See you at North Central on Saturday.  Augie is too far to drive.

Well, Sack Attack has certainly changed the demeanor this morning.  Welcome, Coach.  ;D

Jim Barnes did what every coach tries to do - get as many of his players All Conference recognition. Yes, it's political. All has been. Always will be. Augie had a little leverage though. Undefeated in conference. Highest nationally ranked team. 300+ yards rushing every game. Must have a good OL to do that.  I'm sure john Thorne did the same thing to get recognition for his receivers (beyond Spencer). Maybe EC should have used more of its chips to get recognition for Matt Kelly.

I agree with sack, Kelly was a very good defensive lineman and deserved at least a 2nd team nod. I also dont think Kalinowski did anything to get a 2nd team nod. Good luck to Auggie this weekend!!! 8)

Aaron Call also had 2 blocked kicks which must have helped him get 1st Team.

Do you mean Anthony of Augie?

Wow!  What a morning.  I think Kniss is without question the CCIW OPOY and all one has to do is what the second half of the NC/EC game to see what he's made of.  When NC was down by 2 scores late in the game, Kniss is the reason NC was able to come back and win.  It's not just stats that makes a player great, it's what he does in the "clutch" and how he rallies his team.
Of all the players I saw this year, Matt Kelly brought one of the quickest/toughest rushes off the DE slot I saw all year.

Unfortunately it's the same issue and same discussion every year.  There are always worthy players left off the list and some who in the opinion of others are less worthy and make it.  It's good for discussion and debate, but it'll always come up at the end of each year.

In general, the winning teams get more players represented.  In part because they probably have more talented players (hence the winning), but in larger part due to the perception that winning teams "deserve" more players.  Like anything based on "votes", it's not a perfect system.  It's subjective to a large extent.

There are numerous reasons why a player may or not make the all-conference team.  Too numerous to list here.

I view personal accolades as secondary to the preception and success of the team.  It's nice to be acknowledged as an all-conference player, but every one I know who has received that recognition has told me it really only carries significance for the first 3-5 years.  Not many people remember who was all-conference and who wasn't as the years move further along.  They do remember who won the conference and went to the playoffs though...

Of course, this opinion comes from someone who had ZERO chance at any all-conference recognition.  I was an undersized LB, who played alongside 3 LB's who all were multiple all-conference selections, one who was a multiple DPOY, and all who had NFL tryouts.  Not much chance for a 4th LB to receive recognition alongside those guys.  ;D  Still I truly view all-conference recognition as secondary to the team.  I think my teammates would have taken a CCIW title over all-conference nods in a second.

BTW: I'm not saying that any of you view all-conference recognition above team recognition.  I'm just saying that after all the debate on who should or shouldn't have made it dies down... we remember what the team did more.  And in a small way... the debate on who should or shouldn't have made it is recognition on what they accomplished individually- by the fans of the CCIW.

You were all conference in my book.  I was never as sore as I was after a Wheaton game against you four!  Well, I would have to throw Thomsen(sp?) from Augie just destroying me my freshman year in there as well.  He deserved all of the accolades he received, just as your guys did!

Just wait until next year when Augie's qb who has been running the same type of offense for 6 years now (if you count hs) and also has a better arm than Roe.

As for Roe being listed as a running back:
Roe was mentioned as a running back in Wheaton's press release after the game, and if memory serves me right, I believe Roe was on the team of the week as a running back last year after the Wheaton game.
