You were all conference in my book.  I was never as sore as I was after a Wheaton game against you four!  Well, I would have to throw Thomsen(sp?) from Augie just destroying me my freshman year in there as well.  He deserved all of the accolades he received, just as your guys did!

Gee... thanks.  :)

Switching to ole' fart mode temporarily  That defense was a TON of fun to play alongside.  Unbelievably talented.  3 guys who transfered in from DI or DII schools.  A db who led the nation in interceptions... a safety who transfered from Penn who could hit harder than anyone I ever played with... the 3 LB's I alluded to who had NFL tryouts... 2 future All-American D-lineman.  A defensive that believed in each other... man that was fun.  We had one bad game that year... Augie.  They gouged us pretty good that year, but they've done that a lot over the years.

But enough of the old-timers... back to the guys deserving of recognition this year!

Just wait until next year when Augie's qb who has been running the same type of offense for 6 years now (if you count hs) and also has a better arm than Roe.

dogie,

Who is this QB you speak of??  Sounds like he could make things interesting, next year.  I can imagine Augie becoming a Two Dimensional team.

Heck, you're not that old!  In my day, you not only had to win your conference but you have to go undefeated to get an invite to the playoffs.

Does anybody have stats on returing staters for teams next season?

I know that Carthage has 10 on offense and only 4 on defense!

NCCard99:

#13 Ryan McGinnis QB 5-10 185 So. Moline , Illinois  Alleman HS of R.I

He lead Alleman pretty deep in the  4 or 5A State Playoffs his senior year.  I don't see Augie becoming two dimensional any time soon, but it might force teams to not be able to bring 10/11 men in the box anymore. During the NPU game he got in late in the 4th quarter and absolutly faked the defender out of his jock on a fake pitch before keeping the ball for a td run. Anyways that is awhile away, good luck to both NCC and Augie this weekend. Especially after half the IBFC board has predicted Lakeland to win this weekend.  They will get a good taste of what all the teams in the CCIW have to go through weekly.

You must be talking about Brad  Monier, Jason (B.V. HBC) did a great job coaching him in H.S. if he live up to the hype you just started....He might be better then Schmulbach was.  Can't wait to see him play.

Sackattack

Lakeland has coaches who understand the vikings, and had coached against them, but I thik the IBFC has a lot to think about when they think they can beat a top tier CCIW school.

dogie,

That's exactly what I meant.  As two dimensional as Augie can get.  Like you said if there is even the slightest possibility of an accurate deep pass it is going to make things real interesting for D-Coordinators around the CCIW.  Should be another exciting season.
But not as exciting as this POST - season is going to be.

How good is the NCC defense?  All the talk is about Cap's defense, and righfully so, but the offense is also excellent with a good RB, QB and two big athletic receivers.

Still trying to decide whether I should listen to the game on the computer or watch Ohio State-Michigan.  Wish I was an Illinois or NW fan, then it would be an easy choice ;)

Good luck to all the players this weekend.  Hope this game lives up to its billing.

Anyone on here remmber when Jim Collins was the OC at Illinois Wesleyan?

I'll need help from other Wheaton posters... so many guys got significant playing time for Wheaton due to rotations, injuries, etc...

On offense, I know Wheaton is returning the following starters:
Geoff Rowson - Jr. OL (2nd Team All-Conference)
Chris Fossum - Sr. WR
Jeremy Chupp - Sr. QB (we'll see if he rebounds from tough year)
Joe Chupp - Sr. WR (2nd Team All-Conference)
Chaz Black - Sr. RB
Brad Thornton - Sr. FB

Not sure which of these O-Linemen started the most... but they're all coming back.
Russell Andrews - Jr. OL
C.J. Duncan - Jr. OL
Paul Manda - Sr. OL

Offensive players with significant playing time:
Matt Bradley - Jr. WR
Kirk Sundberg - Jr. FB

For Wheaton on defensive, following starters are returning:
Jonathan Toal - Sr. OLB
Pete Ittersagen - So. DB (All-Conference as a freshmen)
Andrew Studebaker - Jr. DE (All-Conference)
Kirk McKenney - Jr. S
Tim March - Sr. DB & punt/kick return
Mike McKenney - Jr. LB

Guys that played significant time, but I'm unsure of their "starter" status:
Mark Steinbrueck - Sr. S
Jesse Laizure - Jr. OLB
Dan Studebacker - Sr. DT

Why is that a decision to be made. Take the laptop and set it up next to the recliner and fireup the wireless connection. Have the best of both worlds. :)

NCC's defense has had its breakdowns this year.  Some of the problems could have been the coaches trying to do too much with the defense and confusing them instead of just letting the kids play.  They made this adjustment before the Augie game and played better the last 2 games of the season.  This is a solid D, led by the linebackers who can all run with a lot of experience.  Defensive backs have blown some coverages but all in all have played well.  There really isnt a weak spot on the D, it just hasnt been as dominant as last year with a lot of the same players.  The D will do its job to keep NCC in the game.

sackattack:

Like you said, there are a lot of teams out there that know about Augie's offense, but not a lot of teams that can actually stop it. Carthate stopped it, and Wheaton maintained it ( I would have said stopped it, but they did give up 21 pts on D). Even if Lakeland were able to keep it a low scoring game, I don't think they would have enough fire power against the best defense statistically wise in the CCIW this year.
