The EC/NC game is not going to be close. I see this being over by halftime. I know Thorne and Co. won't overlook Elmhurst, but I don't see EC operating at the same tempo and speed as NC has been/could be.

I see Elmhurst having a chance at 2 more wins at best.  The fact that they had to come from behind in a desperation attempt vs. Millikin continues to tell me that EC is just not there yet.

I have been watching a lot of the Augustana and the stats show that they don't allow to much though the air.  Their corner play is as good as anybodies.  They don't allow to many completions on the sidelines and that's were they will intercept the ball.  The corners get their hands on a lot of those quick sideline passes and bat them away.  I usually don't watch corners but their play and use of the sideline to control were the receiver goes really stood out to me.  The Augie corners deserve a look for CCIW honors.

The other team I have been watching is North Park who is really beginning to look like a true option team.  They had some impressive long time consuming drives the past weekend against Augustana.  I'm just trying to say their is some great football going on besides the top teams in a division.

Haven't been on here in a while but I thought I would chime in on the games this year with it getting much closer to the season wrapping up. I have seen NCC several times this year and I would say that there are some concerns. Their defense is playing lights out and will always keep them in the game. I do wonder about their offense however. I know that they are starting a freshman at QB which is tough in general but especially in that offense. All you need to do is score more than the other team to win, but they will have to figure out their chemistry if they are going to make it past the 2 purple people eaters. I am not totallly worried as their running game is strong but once the passing game gets figured out a little bit more then I think they can really challenge the top 2.

Go Cards!

You beat me to it, though as has beens and fans we can afford the luxury of looking ahead.  I know that Coach Thorne and his staff has not, nor will they, allow a team to ever look past a game and not take care of business.  The Cards always win against teams that they are supposed to beat.  Since 2005, losses have historically only come only against tough openers or very good CCIW teams that I guarantee they were not looking past.  The only exception is 2007 Wash U, though I doubt the Cards were looking past them to North Park, who was their next opponent.

Son of Tailgater

I went to the Wheaton @ Carthage game this weekend and only have a few comments from the game but wanted to share:

1. Carthage was in this game until 7 seconds left in the first half when Wheaton had a huge kickoff return and scored on a two play drive making the score 17-7. From there Wheaton didn't look back and it was an uneventful 2nd half.

2. I was very impressed by the size of Wheaton's defensive line and their quickness. I had heard that Carthage had a poor offensive line this year but for the most part they held their own against Wheaton.

3. Lack of play makers on offense for Carthage. I don't think we have a go to guy other than Schultz. Wheaton didn't seem to have the marque running back of their past years.

4. Very impressed with the new stadium and facilities at Carthage. Glad the money when to good use....we still need to host a playoff game which was the initial reason for taking down the deer stand press box  ;D

5. The stands were full and it was family day but the crowd was quiet for the most part. I would often stand during a big play, look around and it was myself and the band cheering. Wheaton also had a poor fan turn out for an away game and besides for those working I didn't see many students for both teams at the game. I understand that Wheaton was a heavy favorite I was just disappointed with what seemed like a lack of interest for a Saturday night game.

1. The Cards will not look past Elmhurst. They have been focused on each opponent since the week one loss. The next two weeks are huge.

2. The DEFENSE will keep them in every game-they have scored in three of the last four games and just get better looking every week.

3. The  OFFENSE just runs the ball right at you and works the clock. NC fans are used to seeing big scoring games, so these lower scoring ones might worry some people.

Can't wait until Saturday-hate the 7 pm start. Keep rolling cards!!

It would not surprise me at all if North Park beats Carthage this Saturday in Chicago. Carthage's offense is in shambles and NPU has a very respectable defense. If The Park can generate some offense and get some momentum, I could see the streak ending. In fact, I will go on record as saying it happens this Saturday.

NPU 17
Carthage 10

I watched the second half of the Wheaton @ Carthage game on Saturday night after I returned from Rock Island. Looks to me like the Red Men have some serious problems to overcome. Carthage is banged up on the offensive line and at quarterback, negating somewhat some of the injury issues that NPU is having on defense, and I agree with SOT that the Red Men don't appear to have a lot of game-breakers on offense. Meanwhile, the NPU offense is certainly playing with more confidence after gaining 339 yards of total offense and 22 first downs against a decent Augie D that was giving up averages of 287 and 15, respectively, prior to Saturday's game. Plus, getting sophomore slotback Chris Broadway back from his mandatory concussion hiatus should definitely help the Park.

Carthage should still be the favorite, based upon the proposition that NPU should always be considered the underdog in a CCIW game until the Vikings finally break through and end the streak. But this does appear to be a winnable game for North Park on Saturday at Hedstrand Field. Nevertheless, the first thought that went through my mind when I read the above post was, "USee is the human equivalent to the Sports Illustrated cover jinx." ;)

Perhaps we should ask ESPN's Mike Greenburg to pick Carthage - he's notorious for jinxing his picks. :)
