North Central College is going for its 6th consecutive Conference Championship. 02 Warhawk, you know what that is like.

I don't care what the folks from Wheaton call NCC, as long as they remember it's preceded by "CCIW Conference Champion."

Sure do....UWW has 32 conference championships in its histroy. Still one behind La Crosse, who is the conference's all-time leader.

Safe to assume NCC holds the record for most CCIW championships?

Absolutely not.

It has only been in the past decade or so that SoDup has risen to the level they have.  Overall the CCIW has ebbed and flowed on who the powerhouse is.  In the 80's and early 90's it was mostly Augustana. Millikin and IWU are sprinkled in across the decades with champions ships here and there.  In the late 90's and early 2000's it was Wheaton.  In the 50's it was all Wheaton, to the point they were "asked" to leave the conference for a bit due to complete dominance in football and basketball.  In the 60's it was all Carthage.  I'll provide the breakdown on championships in a follow up post.

Which would completely explain why Wheaton and IWU are not happy with the school closest to the Naperville River Walk. emergence as a contender ;)

And why SoDup should enjoy this while it lasts.  It clearly has been cyclical in nature, even for the most powerful dynasties in CCIW history - Wheaton in the 50's, Carthage in the 60's and Augie in the 80's and part of the 90's.

I don't see the NC/Wheaton game being all that close.  In fact, I wouldn't doubt NC wins this game by 14 or more points.  I think the Cards are too stacked at the skilled positions, and their depth helps them fend off the competition in the conference.  Plus, with the game being at home,  that helps matters.  I don't see NC really being challenged until (minimally) the second round of the playoffs.

*of note, If Elmhurst is somehow able to beat Augie, (I believe) that will be the first time ever, that they would beat Augie 2 years in a row.  I know they have only beat them 4 times ever.

Dynasties?
50's Harve Chrouser Dynasty
Art Keller Dynasty
80's Augie Bob Reade Nat'l Champ years included
PRESENT- NC Thorne's teams

These are/were the dynasties I talked about on the broadcasts for Elmhurst.

Well, by this time tomorrow, the Little Brass Bell game will be over, or almost anyway.  I'm praying for safety for all the players and that the fans have a great game to watch.

Thanks to the fans for both squads, and for the imput from other fans too.  It's been a fun lead up to this year's game, as usual.  Talk with you again after the game!  8-)

Head tells me 28-16 SoDup.

Heart tells me 19-17 Wheaton.

Making the 7 mile trek to the south with my 7 year old boy.  I'm hoping for a classic "Battle for the Bell" that we'll be talking about for years to come and for safety for all players involved.

Head much smarter than heart!   ;)
