In the Augie NCC game NCC's offense didn't do much in the 1st half of the game before the weather started to get bad. The first 3 or 4 possessions were 3 and

I would agree with most of that. The weather did affect NCC's ability to run their complete offense. And, it also contributed to Augie's fumbles. On a better day, add at least 2 TDs to each team.

Wheaton did a good job in the first half against North Central by going after Kniss. It took Jeff Thorne a few series to adjust and counter the pressure. I really don't think that you can sit back and let Kniss find open receivers. Kniss is elusive as well. Expect him to have 2 or 3 runs over 10 yards. He has in every key game.

Augie knows that feeling as Kniss burned Augie's D for a 50+ yard run on 4th and 3 in the 3rd quarter of the game.

That was one of the plays that I had in mind. Kniss also had a long run against Wheaton on a two play drive (recover a Wheaton fumble, run for 40, pass to Spencer for 30, change momentum).  Kniss would be a great option QB. Oh wait, he has been known to run the option one or twice a game. ;D

Am I going to see any of you at the Lantern tomorrow?

Alum, is the Sox fan going to be around?

Man, I got chopped two karma points without even making a post ???

And I haven't even bashed Lakeland or the IBC all week.

i also hope that there is a good crowd for the North Central game.....from the looks of it it should be a fairly decent size (or at least the administration is expecting it). tickets went on sale already this week. with the men's and women's thanksgiving basketball tournaments starting tonight and continuing tomorrow i would expect a few extra stragelers from there........and parking will be HORRIFIC.

GO CARDS!!
You win! You always do!

Good luck to Augie and NCC this weekend. I'm hoping both programs will make the CCIW proud. Congrats to the CCIW All-Conference team selections. A special congrats to my favorite Red Men O-Lineman. Great Season!

CardAlum,

I do agree with the weather being a factor, but I agree with Augiedogie about the lack of big plays before the storm hit also. I was just saying I think that a 4 man or 5 man rush is BEST, I didn't say it is easy. That O of yours is hot and they can pack a punch, I was just thinking in terms of making it open for more mistakes by keeping plays short. I also made mention that the risk of mistakes is greater if you have to take more snaps. I understand that the long play is low percentage, but when you have 10-12 play drives you also leave yourself open for one mistake.

I think it would have been more clear if I first mentioned that there is no easy way to stop the NCC offense, but I would think zones are a better way. Good luck to you guys tomorrow. Hopefully by this time we are both celebrating victories.

Safe play wished to all D-3 Playoff teams tomorrow......Former Card yesterday you posted 'The game is at noon, so tailgating has to start @ 8:00 am Great day for Steak and Eggs'.  I must correct you the answer is Eggs and Kegs, as at 8:00 am this is the only way to go.. :o!  Good Luck CCIW...Go Cards and Vikes.....See you all at the Cards Tailgate at 9:00 am sharp

Good Luck to the Vikes this weekend lets have a great safe game for all. My heart is with the Muskies, but nevertheless you guys on this site really know how to post.  I do predict a 17-14 win for Lakeland. Have a great weekend and be safe on your tailgating

I don't know but after maddog's post i think everyone on the board could use a little of whatever he is smokin.

From reading the IBC board, my understanding is that Maddog is the father of Lakeland's QB - you expected him to pick Augie?!

As the father of an athlete, I can assure you that 'blood is thicker than common sense"! ;D

I can't help but laugh.  It is like your dog dies and you find out you are getting audited by the IRS on the day that you donate a kidney or something.

Can't wait for the game.  I got my official NCAA pass today and it looks to be a good game.  It could be an interesting day.  Augie has been in Finals all week and with such a big possible 2nd round game, I hope that they haven't been thinking ahead because Lakeland hasn't been there or done that.  Good luck to NCC.  I want as much CCIW as possible.

Did anyone else see Sports Illustrated's Sign of the Apocalypse?  "The NCAA took Division III Carthage College off its list of schools with banned Native American nicknames after the school changed its nickname from Redmen to Red Men."  bottom of page 35 November 21, 2005 issue.

???

Go Augie!  BTW, game time forecast 29 degrees.

I've been out of town for a few days and have a lot to catch up on.  As far as the All Conference selections, I agree with Mugsy that it has as much to do with team success and politics as anything else.  CardAlum, you mentioned Lynn Thomsen in one of your posts.  If the selections were tied primarily to individual stats, Lynn (and for that matter, many others on the Augie D during the 80's) would not have made All Conference.  When your defense is out on the field for 20 - 25 minutes per game and the opposing offenses are running half the number of plays as your offense, it's hard to pile up gaudy individual statistics.  What got people selected was winning and team statistics.

Don't feel too bad about getting destroyed by Lynn as a freshman.  I had the pleasure of watching him do that to just about every offense lineman he played against for four years.
