Off the top of my head I can remember last year Wheaton losing to Bethel, which Is their only playoff loss to anyone but Mt Union (0-6 in Alliance). NCC lost to Franklin in 2008 (Wheaton beat Franklin subsequently). That may be all. NCC lost to Capital 2 times (OAC), Carthage lost at Mt Union, Millikin lost at ONU, Augie lost at Mt Union, and IWU lost at UWW ( and at Alliance in 1996).

We have playoff wins over Wabash 2x, Baldwin Wallace, Coe, Franklin, Trine, Hope, Witt, St Norberts, Concordia, Wi and Alma.
NCC also beat Ohio Northern before losing to UWW last year.

Stagg Again!!

Jordan Langston was the best defensive back Wheaton had this year. McMullen was banged up a lot of the year. I am very surprised not to see Langs on either team.

I completely agree.  It sounds "homer-ish", but leaving Langs off the all conference list is a significant snub.  Even as a safety there were times this year he was called upon to play 1-on-1 against the top WR, a task normally given to corners.  He was a physical sure tackler, but had the speed to line up against the best WR's in the league.

What immediately pops out to me is that it looks like NCC will have a lot of talent to replace on the D (especially D Line). I guess at this point I should trust that they will be able to reload as they have each of the last few years.

I rarely have seen a team I'm a fan of have this kind of sustained success (only Jordan's Bulls) and it's been a bit difficult to get used to! I'm used to one or two years of success followed by a 1/2 decade or more of mediocrity from the Illini (bball and football), Bears, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks (though the Bulls and Hawks seems to be building for the long haul).
You win! You always do!

So the playoff numbers are in. Since 1995 the CCIW is 22-20 in the NCAA playoffs. If you take out losses to the OAC and WIAC, the CCIW is 22-3 in the playoffs. The 3 losses are Witt (Millikin), Franklin (NCC) and Bethel (Wheaton). If you take out the losses to Mt Union and UWW, the CCIW is 22-6 in the playoffs. I knew those teams had been dominant, but this really shows how good they have been for a long time.   :o

cardfan86

USee, thanks for doing all that research. However, you did forget the two games NCC played in 2006. The 35-6 W against Concordia (Wis.) and the 41-13 L against Capital

USee

Cardfan86,

Good catch. I have corrected the previous post to reflect your observations. What is sad is that I was at the Capital game that year and I referenced it in my earlier post. I'm getting old like Ypsi.

Ypsi isn't old, he's just well fermented.

Opening night at the Shirk.  Play ball!!!

Good luck to all CCIW teams this year.

Just thinking about that 06 Capital game brings back bad memories. I really thought we were going to do well against them with the way we played against them in 05. Their DBs were VERY good and VERY fast and just killed us all day. And then we had to wait about 3 hours after the game for the NCAA to finish the "random" drug testing! I only say "random" b/c they took out QB, stud WR, DB, DL, OL and then our kicker! HA

Mark, with friends like you, who needs enemies! ;D

[I'm starting a rumor that you actually went to Millikin, and are just trying to 'pass' for a Titan. 8-)]

Can anyone tell me how the CCIW has done in the playoffs the past 10 years or so against teams NOT from the OAC or WIAC?  From what I can recall, it's pretty darn-tootin' good.

It's from this perspective that I felt that IWU was the recipient of a rather nice playoff draw for 2011.  Not trying to discount any upcoming opponents, but anytime you can be bracketed NOT with MUC or UWW, that automatically increases your chances for a deep run in the playoffs.

However, from everything I'm reading about this QB Tanney (and I'll admit, from watching his trick video on YouTube), this guy seems like he's going a tall task for IWU.  I hope the titans can contain him and continue a pretty good CCIW run against all teams not purple.

I, too, wish IWU the best of luck against non-purple teams.  ;D

iwu70

Ypsi, please forgive.  I'm heading for The Shirk now, so I must still be a Titan.

IWU70 (and equally fermented . . . equally  aged and seasoned).

Mark, I guess I can forgive one lapse since I voted for you for student body president 18 times (I think you only ran twice, but I learned 'Chicago Rules')! ;D

I suspect a majority of the Class of '70 are 'equally fermented ... aged and seasoned'. :P

[I'll try to quash that evil rumor about Millikin, but you know the old saying: "lies can make it around the world before the truth has put on his shoes" - you may be doomed to a Blue future! :D]
