If any season this is it for the CCIW to break through the purple mountain.  They are vunerable this year as evidenced by Benedictine  :o scoring on them.  Sorry Wabash :( for looking past you but just don't think you have what it takes to stop  the Naperville redbirds this year.

Dreams are a beautiful thing.  Keep saying it....over ...and over....and over...and over again.  Maybe this is the year.  But do you REALLY think it is?  Or are you just HOPING it is?

USEE & Mugsy, and any and all Wheaton posters can claim "this is the team".  Even Wheaton's vaunted coach (who LK respects immensely) can say it, but until you do it.......who really knows?

I think Wabash might have something to say about it, but if it turns out they don't, welcome to THE MACHINE.

Skunks,

Show me where anyone has claimed anything? Dont come in here stirring up trouble before it's due. There is a very good Wabash team NCC has to get past. If that happens you can judge for yourself. What I do know is that the team that wins this weekend in Crawfordsville will give Mt Union all it can handle. Doesn't mean they will win, but the winner of this game isn't far behind the purplepowers. I am very confident in that assessment.

Im pretty sure Skunks was just directing his comment at wheels81. I do believe who ever wins this game will give mount all they can handle. However to say mount is vulnerable because they gave up ONE TD to benedictine is ridiculous. If wabash or north central does challenge/beat mount it's not because mount is "vulnerable" its because wabash/north central are pretty darn good!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody.  I'm thankful I get to talk football, and other sports, with you guys.  Amidst your dinners, socializing, and football, take time to think of the things you're thankful for.  My guess is that you won't have to think very hard.

And now, back to the great Red vs Red debate.

I love when people attribute statements and claims to people who have never said them.

Skunks, review the board and tell me where I've said "this is the team"?  The last few weeks I've only offered stats or areas to watch for regarding NCC or IWU's current opponent.  This is the playoffs and ANYTHING can happen.

While I would agree that NCC has been consistently building and improving their program and getting players who more closely approach "elite" talent, I have yet to make a single public statement on whether they will end the "purple" wave.

Please keep in context that I've seen 6 Wheaton teams handily beaten by Mount, some of which I entered the week with "hopes" that this is the team that can do it.

USee, I love the way non-CCIW posters are coming over here claiming we are the ones saying "this is the team".  We aren't even NCC fans!  :o  What's up with that?

I will say some of the "nice" comments I've made about NCC have made me throw up in my mouth.  I can't do it today because there is a pretty good meal coming in about 7 hours.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Perhaps... but I see "USEE & Mugsy" explicitly singled out.  If he was responding the wheels81 post (which I agree is crazy to claim that Benedictine's scoring 7 points is representing that Mount is vulnerable), he should have quoted wheels posted and said so.

He included USee and I specifically and neither of us said anything like what he implied.  To me it indicates he is not reading this board completely and is just jumping on to beat his chest with "how dare anyone question the greatness of Mount".

Here's my two thoughts on the NCC/Wabash tilt.  I don't have any stats to back it up.  Just good ole' matblake intuition.

1.  Wes Chamblee is a difference maker.  NCC has to keep him under control.  If they don't, he'll Ittersagen them.

2.  If Wabash's running game is ineffective, they are in for a long afternoon.  That doesn't even necessarily mean that Wabash will lose with an ineffective running game, it just means that they will be in a 12 round no gloves fight.

By the way, add me to list of people that are sick of these good NCC teams.  I've often wanted to punch a wall these last few years.

Unfortunately I don't see this changing anytime soon.  Even when Coach Thorne retires, we'll likely be dealing with the red beastly birds for a bit.  The school has committed to the football program and it shows with the facilities, the coaching staff, the number & quality of players, etc...

After attending the NCC/Wheaton game, the excitement and intense following by fans is obvious.  This will not go away quickly.  CCIW teams will need to work hard to match it... if they can.

Agreed........which makes it much more infuriating.

I think you are absolutely correct Mugsy.  NCC football is poised to be in this position for a while.

Below is a post I made on November 6...I just think it will be challenging for the rest of the league to get the quantity of great players NCC is bringing in.

Quote from: Titan Q on November 06, 2011, 09:26:10 AM
North Central's rise as a program, obviously, is due to the overall talent level on the roster - the Cardinals have better football players than everyone else in the league.  In addition to the top-notch D3 recruits John Thorne and staff are getting right out of H.S. - guys like Kyle Fiedorowicz (who might play in the NFL), Nick Kukoc, freshman QB Tyler Dicken, Joey Michals, etc  - they are also leveraging transfers in a big way.

Here are the transfers (from a variety of levels) that are key contributors to NCC's 2011 squad...

Offense
OL Will Thrun (UW-Platteville)
OL  John Cannova (Butler)
OL Jace Werkheiser (Northern Illinois)
RB Jordan Tassio (Western Illinois)
WR Joe Antonacci (Drake)

Defense
DE Valente Garza (College of DuPage)
LB Scott Skuteris (Illinois State)
LB Tharryn Wright (Ball State)
CB Josh Mitchell (Quincy)
FS Josh McLeod (Truman St)

With the recruiting machine NCC has going, it will continue to be extremely hard for other CCIW programs to compete.  Wheaton, for example, has always been able to attract outstanding Christian kids from all over the country (freshman WR Mark Hiben is a D1-caliber talent in my opinion...just as Andy Studebaker and Pete Ittersagen in recent years were), but I don't think even Wheaton is positioned to bring in enough talent to close the gap with NCC as a program.  Illinois Wesleyan is always going to get talented kids from all over the state (the Rob Gallik's, Ben Houk's, Joey Driver's, etc), but again, I just don't see IWU being able to get the depth of talent needed to catch the Cardinals.  Same for the rest of the league really.

It will be interesting to watch this all play out over the course of the next few seasons.  I could be wrong, but I just see a machine in place that is going to be around quite a while.

Happy Thanksgiving to all CCIW Fans..... question for those non-NCC fans.... What temperature are you supposed to cook "Cardinal" at?   Got a chubby one this morning at the feeder (my kid's BB Gun still works)  ;)  8-)  :o  :)  ;D  ???

Hope all have a great day!

I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Mount lose in the regional finals this season.  They're very good, but not untouchable as they've been some years.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.
