What a game on Saturday. Unfortunately, I missed it to attend the MSU-NU game on Saturday. But, got updates as the seconds wound down. Congrats to NCC on a solid season. I know it is not the result that you were hoping for, but that program is well on its way to being a mainstay in the top 5 of DIII for a long time. Question...is this senior class the winningest class in NCC history?

Congrats to Wabash. Good luck against the Mount. I am glad you guys got the tight game comeback win after getting one of those playoff losses 2 years ago.

I really expected a tight game like this all week leading up to the game. Wabash is always one tough @$$ team with some tough dudes. They don't lay down, give up, and keep hitting. At the same time, the Redbird Machine has a way of continuing to churn week after week. NCC is right on the edge of that purple-ness I think. However, they need to be more disciplined. You can't have personal fouls in a game of that magnitude. I believe that come next August, NCC will again be found at the top of the preseason polls and they will make their way through the CCIW with a giant chip on their shoulder until December.

You better believe there will be a GIANT chip on their shoulders especially with the way they blew a game that they should have won. I had a chance to watch highlights of Redlands yesterday and Saturday was a repeat. Again championship teams don't blow big leads. They will have to develop a better attitude (and you're right discipline) to understand that just about every game they play will be THE game for their opponent.  The next step starts today and for next year's seniors it will be time to step up and make it happen. This senior class has a record of 41-6, the junior class is 30-5. Huge steps forward for the program, but not quite where they want to be. Lots of quality coming back, almost all of the offense and 6 on defense, plus all the guys who were able to get some quality playing time, should make them able to reload. Hopefully this loss will be all the motivation they need during the off season to make the next step a reality. They start the season with Redlands(payback time) and Oshkosh which should be a very good indicator of how close they are to getting to the top.

I cant believe another season is done for the CCIW. Great year and already looking forward to next year. Congrats again to NC and IWU. Looking forward to hearing recruiting news on all the schools in the upcoming weeks! Have a great holiday season as well.

Well...the sting of the loss has finally started to wear off (don't believe I've been that upset over the outcome of a sporting event in a long time).

Not really much to say than what I assume has already been said (I can't even bring myself to go back and read through the previous threads here or the NCAC board).

Horrible loss for NCC, great comeback by Wabash. Missing Charles (CB) really hurt NCC, as Wabash had 2 really good WRs, NCC couldn't contain either and I think Charles would have really helped. That being said, Wabash was missing some key players as well. Their QB played an unbelievable game. He was beaten up all day, and looked like he was ready to throw in the towel multiple times after being hit...but he kept getting up and showed big giant cannonballs in the 4th quarter.

I think Dicken will be special for NCC.

I think the Wabash web-stream broadcast was the highest quality D3 broadcast (outside of the title game on ESPN) that I have ever seen, by far. The announcers did a fantastic job, and the camera crew was good as well. The website even held up to the increase in web traffic.

NCC loses alot on D next year. Hopefully they can reload and put this behind them. I would not want to be Redlands when they come to NCC next season.

Good luck to Wabash vs Mt Union! Hopefully we meet again next year.

With the 2011 CCIW season officially now over I wanted to congratulate all of our teams this year and especially for NCC and IWU representing in the playoffs. Best of luck to the graduating seniors at the end of this semester or in May as the take the next step in their life whether they are continuing to play/ coach football or headed into their careers.

I know the outcome wasn't as planned or anticipated but that is why they play the games. You still have to love the playoff format that D3 has even if we see another Mt. U/ YouDubbya repeat.

With the Illinois High School State Championships this weekend it would be great to hear if anyone knows of any key recruits headed to the CCIW this year. The game that impressed me the most this weekend was the Montini vs Joliet Catholic Academy which ended in a 70-45 win for Montini (515 yards 6 TDs for JCA's RB and a loss!) 1,644 combined yards..wow.

Other than EdgyTim (paid service), I have a hard time tracking commitments/ prospects for the upcoming year. Any suggestions or websites that anyone else uses?

In the past, the Daily Herald has had recruiting news on CCIW schools (as long as they were area recruits).

The Sun Times will also post some information on Chicago area recruits as they start picking schools http://yourseason.suntimes.com/recruiting/index.html.

You likely won't see much in the way of commits until after the D1 signing period in early February. After that, you'll see the news coming out on kids who were borderline D1 committing to the lower tier schools.

It is definitely not the easiest thing to track, however.

Seriously, they didn't blow anything.  North Central was not entitled to anything on Saturday.  They have to earn another game just like everybody else in this tournament.  North Central did not quit on Saturday.  They did not adjust well (or really at all) to Wabash dropping back and slinging it around in the second half, but they sure as hell didn't quit or lay down or choke.  Wabash made plays against 11 guys that were trying their hardest to prevent those plays.

This continued dialogue about how North Central blew this and choked that is disrespectful to everybody involved in that great college football game on Saturday.  North Central is a damn good team.  They lost by one point to another damn good team.  There's no shame in that.  None whatsoever.

So...if Wabash were to have been in the same position and lost you wouldn't have said they blew the game or choked? You would be saying "man we played great and NCC beat us"? I don't believe that at all.

Anytime a team loses 3 TD lead that late in the game, that is a choke/blown game.

Does that mean that Wabash didn't play great or that Wabash doesn't deserve credit? No. Wabash played great and deserves credit. It's not a choke if Wabash doesn't play great and come back.

NCC choked/blew the game in the 4th quarter. Wabash played great in the 4th quarter. They are not mutually exclusive events.

First of all you are entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. We don't have to like or agree with each other, but we are respectfully entitled to believe what we choose to believe. Have a great day and beat Mount.

No, if Wabash were up by 21 points at halftime I wouldn't have spent the intermission lighting victory cigars and booking rooms in Alliance.  I'd have had enough respect for a second round opponent to know that there's 30 more minutes and just as easily as one team jumped out to 21 points, the other guys are good enough to get 21 back in the second half.  Y'all weren't playing Olivet or Millikin on Saturday.

Congrats to NCC on a fine fine season.  Tough way to go out.  In a way, now the NCC fans know a bit what IWU fans felt the week before, being up 17-0 and then losing on the last play of 3 OTs.  Tough way to go out.  Wabash tasted the same thing two years ago when IWU beat them on the last play in 3 OTs as well.  Great DIII games, with no one choking or blowing the game.  These were hard-fought games right down to the very last play.  It's not over 'til it's over.  Don't we all know that now, for sure.  What great games.  We should be thankful for the competitive spirit of the players and coaches.  Great stuff for the fans, even in defeat.

I'm quite sure NCC will come back and have another great team to put on the CCIW fields of play again next year.  You can bet for sure that IWU will do the same.

Thanks to all the CCIW football chatsters.  I enjoyed all the commentary, information, banter and nonsense throughout the year.  Time for football hibernation now.  Good off-season to all . . . and good luck to all the seniors as they end their CCIW football careers!

How exactly did NCC "choke" or "blow the game"?

I dont see that anyone made a mistake, or laid down, puckered, or quit.

It was an effin war out there.

Wabash made great plays.  It could have gone either way.

No one choked anything on Saturday.

Yet again, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. As a parent of one of those players who left everything he had on the field, ask him what he thinks. You wouldn't like his answer. He left the field Saturday knowing that it was another case of woulda, shoulda, coulda... but didn't.

All I can say is I hope we can get Mount Union to gack one up too, that will put us one game closer to the National Championship.  8-)
