Well this is an unfortunate story to read. Should be noted that this is a reflection of poor character content of 1 person and not that of the college.  While it is a setback,  the fb team and college will have to regroup and move ahead putting this mess behind them.
More of a reflecttion on society than an institution. It's a shame when guys don't realize the opportunity they have playing ball and how much they let  down their coaches and teammates when they do stupid things.

Hey, I thought Elmhurst had a shoe deal with Nike!   :P :o

http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/elmhurst/newsnow/x1569724371/Elmhurst-Police-apprehend-Christmas-Eve-armed-robbery-suspect

An armed robbery for a pair of shoes. ???   You have to be kidding me. He would have been in a lot less trouble if he simply had shoplifted them.  I'm not suggesting that he should shoplift I'm just saying the penalty for getting caught is considerably less punitive then the penalty for armed robbery.

Having seen a similiar situation locally I agree with those who feel the university or sports program should not be judged by the stupid actions of a single individual.

Letting down your family is  a given. As a parent I would be devastated, not to mention extremely angry,  if one of my kids did that. This story reminded me of a certain group  of athletes who are paying for the stupid actions of their teammates. But thanks for your imput.

I absolutely agree with your point, newcardfan. I just think that, when speaking of something that carries the gravity of a Class A felony, the focus should be on the things that are really important. As much as we all love college sports, I think we'd all agree that one's family and college education rank higher as priorities.

Completely agree-just adding my $.02 worth. It is sad that people feel the need to commit such acts when they have been given so many opportunities to succeed in life.

Anyone see the SNL commercial yesterday with the mention of Wheaton football?

They were mocking the number of bowls in ESPN's Bowl Madness with bowl's such as:

Buffalo State vs. Wheaton College in the Ruby Tuesday-Hanes Her Way- Prejudice Bowl

Albion College vs Montclair State Hawks in the Phantom Menace in 3D Radio Shack Croissaunt Bowl

The Texas A & M Marching Band vs. tuberculosis in the Fidelity- Four Loko -Life Begins at Conception Bowl

No football in Mass.  Although I suppose that could be the joke.

Yup ... unless you've seen tuberculosis strap on the pads and take the field lately. ;)

Big news on the Augie front( Link at the bottom).  It looks like Augie will have major upgrades to all their athletic facilities coming soon.  Although it is only at the initial stages, it seems that the administration might be seeing the light.  Hopefully everything comes together and the new facilities aid the overall competitiveness of the athletic program.

Greg, I didn't get a chance to let you know how funny I thought your what else do you want, a pony comment was before Pat closed the topic.  I nearly spewed Coke over my keyboard when I read it.  I wasn't having a very good day and it lightened things considerably.  I even had a chuckle when it crossed my mind later on my drive home.

+ karma to you
