Mr. Ypsi

Interesting that NCC and IWU have scheduled each other for homecoming two years in a row.  That is some gutsy scheduling (especially for IWU :P); in 2010 IWU went the more traditional route to guarantee happy 'front-running' alums: NPU was the 'victim'! 8-)

(Or is homecoming such a production that most schools declare it even before the opponent in known, and this is just a coincidence?  I'm assuming that conference games are scheduled by 'the home office', not the schools.)

Mr. Ypsi:

In the MIAA, the league schedule has been set for years and basically is on a "revolving/circle" schedule such that when one team for example, is at the end of the schedule run (they do home/away on the same date for two years i.e. that is to say the same weekend slot), then they rotate back to the front of the league schedule with the other schools in the same slot progressing to the next slot as well and so on.  The individual schools choose when they have homecoming, so in that sense, they don't choose the opponent, but rather it is whoever's turn that falls on that date.  In addition, some of the schools alternate when they have homecoming from later September to mid-October, sometimes depending on when the school's mid-fall break occurs, thereby insuring that homecoming won't fall on a Saturday when the majority of students are gone (although unfortunately that sometimes does happen) and/or so that it occurs when the nicer weather is present in late September.  However, while everyone likes the nice weather, some people don't like having homecoming at such an earlier date but rather desire it to be in the tradional homecoming month of October i.e. mid-fall dates.  That obviously is great if the weather is a beautiful late autumn day i.e. typical nice mid-late fall weather, yet, many times, it turns out to be a miserable, gloomy, rainy and colder October Saturday and weekend, which, of course, "is a bummer for the game as well as other homecoming activities". ;D

Thus, the only "choosing or selection" the MIAA schools do is for their non-conference games and, as you well know, those contracts are made with the schools for anywhere from a 2-4 year contract or as in the case of your alma mater and mine, some between  conferences like the MIAA-CCIW Challenge.  Of course, once in awhile when a team cancels a contract such as when Adrian cancelled out on UWW last year (or other reasons such as conference reaalignments or schools looking to lower costs by decreasing travel distances, etc.), the schools have to look for opponents to fill those "open" slots.  Of course, in our MIAA (and some other conferences) where each team has a "bye" week, that sometimes helps make that easier to get a game, versus having to add it on at the beginning or the end of the season, assuming the latter is possible in regards to having that "extra" open weekend before the start of the NCAA playoffs.

Congrats to Carthage College!

Its not every day that a CCIW school has an alumna crowned Miss America!  I'm sure that she will represent the State of Wisconsin, Carthage College and the CCIW well.

New--It is the off season indeed!!  Usually I break out with a nice uniform thread (isn't someone tweaking their logo this year?) But, the thought of Miss America attending CCIW games makes winter seem shorter  ;D

The link is to the Deadspin article discussing it, so not sure if your work is blocking Deadspin (it can be a bit off color) or just the video?  If it's because of Deadspin, I'm guessing it could be found on Youtube, but don't have the time to search right this instant.
