Hoping the talk the the board heats up with the season openers just a week away.

Some of us UWW fans are looking at a weekend doubleheader- catch UWW at Washington in St Louis on Friday night then make it to the NCC v La Crosse game Sat afternoon.

I think the NCC - La Crosse game has the potential to be one of the better opening weekend games. I expect NCC to win, but I think La Crosse will prove to be a tough out.  They faced some really good teams last year and they are in year two of new coach.
Looking forward to it.

Btw- I'm still surprised Kickoff sells for only $11.  Too often I pay more than that for books that sit on my shelf and don't bring near the enjoyment.

Thanks -- that's a good question but we did raise the price last year so we decided to hold the line this year. problem is we are not having the same kind of sales numbers as in years past so I am not sure what we will do in terms of pricing or publication in the future.

Surprised nobody has asked yet as inquiring minds would love to know....................
Where the heck is last season's freshman starting QB, Tyler Dicken?
This is indeed a (perhaps bad?) surprise.
Anyone know the story?
Yes, he did not pass summer school

I hear it was a credits thing, did not return to school. They did look good in few minutes i stopped at the scrimmage. It looked like they had a few guys banged up, but I don't know if they were starters or not.
From what I was told, the starters were not going to play much today.

It is now less than a week until Wheaton kicks off against Benedictine.  The what has become an annual scrimmage with Wabash has taken place.  Click here and look for reply #22764 from BashBacker#16 for the start of some talk from the Wabash guys regarding the scrimmage.

Personally, I'm glad to get the first game out of the way early.  In the past, Wheaton has always waited a week so that the schedule goes immediately from non-conference to conference.  We'll see how they do with the week off between the non-conf and conf schedule this year.  I personally think the week off will be beneficial in getting nagging injuries healed and getting ready for the conference.  Besides, they'll have 3 games under their belt at that point, so I'm hoping there won't be some sort of "rust" that creeps in against Augie on 9/29.

I read the scrimmage was good. North Central has the same bye week as Wheaton and I think that is a good time. Any little injuries will get rest. I think its a pretty good bye week to have.

Kind of interesting, this is playing out similar to last year when Stanek wasn't on the team. Hand wringing began over whether or not Thorne would turn to a Freshman QB in his absence or go with Tassio.

Hopefully they can keep Stanek healthy this year, otherwise we may be having the same debate. The only other QBs on the roster are freshman (although a couple of them were very good in HS).

I would think they will rotate Stanek with one (or more) of the freshmen and Tassio to keep all of them healthy.

WHOA! SERIOUSLY?! I loved Dicken and was anxious to see him play this year. That's a real bummer. Man. The season just got a little less interesting...

Yes, Dicken was a very intriguing prospect. Oddly enough, had Stanek been with the team last year chances are that you would have seen him at Wabash and not Dicken.

Still interesting :)

If Stanek was with the team last year, it would have been Stanek (and Crackel). Dicken would not have been on the field with the starting offense(at least early on). Very glad to see Stanek back!!!

Dicken looked like an All American against Wheaton in that first (second?) drive last year. There were several times in NCC's biggest games where he really came through. Sigh. I'm genuinely bummed.

This is the first year since at least 1998 that there is no Glenbard North alum on the team.  :'(

You better get to work on that then ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'll have an easier time with Ricahrds alumni these days.  My brother just got hired on to coach at GBN, so I'll leave that to him.  8-)

Bash----

Consider that possibly the season just got a little more interesting.
When a highly ranked team loses what is widely expected to be their returning starter at the most important position on the field, I think it could be said that it will be very interesting to see how the "replacement," and the other team members react.
And, also consider, as newcardfan and robertgoulet have pointed out, that if Stanek had been availablr last year, it most likely would have been him on the field instead of Dicken.
2 seasons ago Stanek had an efficiency rating of 164.9, and a completion percentage of 63.8
Dicken's numbers last season were 136.9 for efficiency, and a completion percentage of 50.6

So, things might still be pretty interesting. Yes, no, maybe?
