Interesting Wheaton dropped 1 place in the poll and lost 25 points with a big win over a cream puff. Must have been the Albion v Benedictine result has taken some of the luster off the Thunder for the pollsters?

Brockport State and Buffalo State moved onto everyone's ballot this week. Those votes had to come from somewhere.

This clearly was the driver -- these two gained 335 points versus last week (from 3 to 338).  Most of the schools above the debutantes gained ground but a few of the schools they parachuted in front of won but lost points.  Wheaton (minus 29 points) was one; Franklin (minus 43) and Thomas More (minus 22) saw the same effect despite each getting their first wins of the season.

Redlands was another source of points; they lost all 70 of their points and fell completely out of the poll after losing to Pacific Lutheran over the weekend.  Didn't seem to impact North Central as they gained a little traction this week.

and looks like he has a lower body fat ratio than last year.

Can one deduce this from the video or bleachers?   ::) ;D :o
He looked more bulky last year both fast and powerful.  This year he resembles the size of Coppage thinner, but it may just be pads.  He also has more moves this year instead of a slasher.  Ive never seen him do the stop hesitation (or whatever its called?) move last year.  Just wondering.

NP... just caught me as humorous.

article on two Wheaton alums getting it done for one of the top teams in Illinois. Wheaton DLine coach Jeff Peltz and All-American/2x DOPOY Chad Thorson have a couple of studs on their hands. Wheaton would do well to secure these two.

Indeed.

North Central bloggers:  You may have followed the latest DePauw University disfunction.  5 head football coaches in the last 9 years with the last 3 "fired" by DePauw administration (all were lawyered up as the result with one formal suit).  The latest was this past Sunday morning just after DePauw got clobbered by Whittenberg.  The athletic director for DePauw (the fire-or person) is Stevie Baker-Watson.  She has issued some beautiful non statements as the basis:  basically not wins/losses but failure of the coach to follow administrative guidlines/responsibilities when told to folloiw them ... whatever that is.  (And this decision made early Sunday morning after his team is pasted?). My question:  What was Stevie's tenure at North Central like?  What is the skinny as to why she would leave North Central, where I would perceive is a good athletic/sports enviornment and decent administration for DePauw?

She was the Assistant Athletic Director at NCC prior to her move to DePauw. Other than that, I know nothing about her.

C) It takes time to build a program- Correct, however Elmhurst has been saying that since 1987 and the Wendell Harris era.  At some point this "time" gets consumed and you have to either put the *** on the field or get off the pot.  Just like potty training my 2 year old,  "It takes time to graduate out of diapers"... but you can't wear diapers for ever.

JB - 2 years old already! Time is flying! Your kid will be going to college pretty soon, perhaps wearing blue and white?  :D

Cardinaldad- Thank you.  Yes a few years back when GS and I met at Fitz's Pub after an EC/NC game I was single. Now Emma is 2 1/2 and Alexandra will be arriving on 9/24.  The good Lord has blessed us indeed.  I hope both find some sport to choose.  I know I am going to push hockey (goalie) but we'll see.    I don't know if EC would be in the cards with mom teaching there.  Hope all is well with your family.

Elmhurst is 3-0 after non conf. games.  Good.  However, we have seen a 3-0 team go into CCIW competition and struggle.  I have my own ideas but what are some of your odds & ends that will make Elmhurst get 5 wins or more in CCIW play?  I think a # of things have to happen.  Just curious to see what outsiders think.

As I mentioned a couple pages back and has been reinforced by other here, Elmhurst needs to run the ball (they may be the best in the CCIW at that), have more balance on offense (they are 65/35 run/pass right now) and defend the run (they haven't been good historically in conference or in their first 3 games at this). If they can do those 3 things (run it, have balance, and defend the run) they are good enough to make the playoffs and go 9-1 in my view. They have the talent for #1 and #2 but I am not sure they have the talent on defense.

79jaybird

I think the 3rd quarter and halftime adjustments is where Elmhurst has been insufficient the last decade.  They have lost many games not adjusting, while their competition has, (i.e. Augie at home a few years back or a couple of WC/and IWU games come to mind), where the coaching staff has made a few subtle changes and led to big, gamebreaking plays.  This combined with many of the details USee mentions are indeed a few thinks the Jays to improve to succeed.

See last several posts on NCAC Board about Stevie "Wonder".  That may ripen memories.

We'll find out how good Elmhurst is in two weeks. 1. Will Williams slice through the NC defense?  2. Can Elmhurst's defense stop Kukoc, Tassio and company? Should be a great opener for both teams. So who do you think Elmhurst will lose to if they go 9-1? It would be a pretty impressive season for them to knock off two of the top three?

I don't know a darn thing about the situation, but I would think the reason she left was pretty simple -- career advancement.  That's how the business works, right? The assistant coach moves somewhere to be the head coach, the assistant A.D. moves somewhere to be the A.D, etc.

That DePauw A.D. job drew a very competitive pool.  I know someone with IWU ties that was a finalist, and he has a very, very strong resume.  He viewed the DePauw job as one of the real good ones in Division III to have.
