To anyone in the know about NCC.
Given the Wabash and Wheaton games, I am worried about the Cal game because it seems they are a very good passing team.
I'm not sure if NCC has played other very good passing teams over the past couple of years?
Why has NCC struggled?
Any talk of changes to be made?

Here are the statistics for 2012 - national rank followed by yards, points, etc.  North Central seems stronger on defense while Cal Lutheran stronger on offense.

To Emma17, I should add that NCC has been burned by passing teams, (i.e. Redlands, Wheaton and Wabash) because they did not blitz or played too soft. I don't think that they will play CLU that way. I think they will press the quarterback and play bump and run. They have done this successfully against Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan. I think they can get enough pressure up front, plus harass the receivers to disrupt the passing game, and they can definitely stifle the running game. The question is can they generate the offensive output needed to keep the other team off of the field. When they have struggled it has been because the defense is on the field too long. If the running game is going, it opens up the passing game and the defense seems to feed off of the offenses onslaught. If it is not going, I am not sure about the Cardinals, unless we have time to pass and the other team is playing soft. Should be interesting come Saturday, I'll be there to cheer the Cards on.
  Go Cardinals!!

I would say the line is Coe by 10 pts, but given those odds, I would say let's go (EC) and prove the odds makers wrong.  Still Elmhurst has as good a shot as anybody vs. Coe.  Now St. Thomas, Linfield, or a Purple school... that might be a different story.

St. Thomas is a Purple school.  ;D

So is Linfield  ;

So is Cal Lutheran I believe.

I am glad UW-W has helped so many "purple" schools take pride in their school color! Did anyone really care what color Mount was before U-WW arrived on the Stagg Bowl scene?  I am hoping for an all-purple Stagg again.  And here's hoping BOTH sidelines have a slightly different shade this year!

How did you know Mount has new home jerseys this year and that it's a tad lighter than the old ones?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I would agree, the NC defense will put the pressure on from here on out. I  would like to see the offense come out strong and strike first. Had they not turned it over on that first drive against Wheaton, and scored first, might have been a different game. Hopefully, they never get over the sick feeling from that game. We will be out there as well.Looking forward to a great game! Go Cards!

Pat or anybody- How do you go into your profile to add something?  I.E. my bottom line says CCIW champs 1978 1980  (how do I add 2012?)

As for the bickering- If there is some content to the argument I'm all in favor.  But mudslinging just "because" is rather childish.

Cal giving up 195 yards/game rushing is certainly a positive sign as I agree that NCC has to control the ball.

I'll remain a worried wart about NCC stopping Cal's passing attack.  In NCC's two biggest games in the last two years the defense has not performed well vs a top passing team.

Emma, as a CLU fan i hate this match up.CLU has lost its starting d line to injuries and has not been able to stop the run very well. The d seems to give us a good half and a bad half. In that good half our o has put up the scores it needed for victory.I would guess ncc has not seen a rec. like rogers this year, and CLU has not seen a big physical team like ncc.(maybe linfield)If we can get an early lead and make it a track meet i will feel much better. last week chapman controled the clock for two and a half quaters.but once they gave an opening it was all over.Sould be an interesting game.good luck to ncc and enjoy the real so cal.(redlands really isnt)

I believe NCC has seen receivers like Rogers.  Wheaton has two WR's who are big and fast (Hiben at 6'5" 215lbs, Morgan at 6'3" 227lbs).  Hiben had 12 catches for 127 yards against NCC, Morgan had 11 catches for 181 yards.

Both Illinois Wesleyan and Millikin have a very talented WR as well.

I just saw that the Head Football Coach position is available on the North Park jobs page.  Anyone have any insight in to that?  Maybe I missed something long ago, I do spend much more time on the soccer and basketball boards, so my apologies if this was already discussed.

Statistically, CLU ranks #201 in total defense (NCC is #12). CLU has given up 1500 yards in the last three weeks. So, they have to try to make it a track meet.

In 2010, Redlands got a little help in their passing game (26-45-3, 275). In 2011, it was a little different (17-37-4, 161).

Going back to NCC's first playoff game against Capital, they have struggled against passing teams (Capital twice, Franklin twice, Wabash) mostly because they have too concerned about giving up big plays. They have good defensive backs, they need to let them play, mix up coverages, and make CLU uncomfortableWe need.

We need Mugsy to create his Tale of the Tape charts for both CCIW games this weekend. :-)

Unlike coocoo, who is (delightfully) unbalanced! ;D

Just the fact that Mr Ypsi is aware of me is a compliment not to mention having an accurate observation of me. I feel like the prettiest girl in the barn.

Thanks Ypsi!!!
I'm so happy 'cause today I found my friends. They're in my head.  I'm so ugly, that's okay, 'cause so are you!

I really hope that is a mistake.  The strides that NP has made are not huge but they are progress over where they have been.  I fear another coaching change will take that program back down to rock bottom.
