newcardfan,

Congrats to JR on a great season. He's earned the awards he has and will receive. He's a first class person.

Have a good trip, have fun. I'm sure it will be a great game.
Thanks, even though I don't know how you know my son. Looking forward to Saturday and hopefully bringing home a victory!!

LOL. Oh, I know all of your family. I've talked to your son on the field after games several times.
...except me ;D

Maybe he has...................................................

This is slightly "tangential" in regards to the college game, however, since it relates to a player in your region, I'd thought I would just mention this hear to ilicit your comments/opinions.  Chicago Bears player Brian Urlacher announced today in response to a question by a reporter that he would "lie to conceal a concussion" to stay in a game, although he doubted that players could conceal such due to the more awareness, newer techinques that trainers and team physicians have available on the sidelines for that (I am not sure what he means by that ??? :-\ as sideline diagnosis hasn't really changed - it is the after concussion test, etc. that have evolved/developed).

I assume, then, that Urlacher would forfeit his right to sue the NFL in later years as many of his NFL colleagues are doing now. ::) ;D ;) :)  Anyway, kind of a "not too smart" idea he is promoting, however,...that is not surprising from some of those people in the NFL. ;)

Former----

1. I think sideline diagnosis actually has improved in that I'm sure the trainers and doctors on the sidelines have the benefit of improved "field" testing/diagnosis that have been developed over time. Also, I'm sure there are now medical doctors on the sidelines at all times whereas in the past initial testing may have only been done by trainers.
2. Under the legal doctrine of 'Assumption Of a Known Risk' I'm not sure how any NFL player can sue the league and prevail unless they can prove the league or helmet manufacturer was negligent in some manner. After all, you know that if you play football, concussions can happen. Duh!
3. It would seem like purposely concealing what a court could construe as evidence i.e. Urlacher lying about his symptoms, would certainly make it more difficult to prove his possible future case.
4. Very stupid to jeopardize your life to play a football game, or games.

From the Weather Channel:

"Ventura County Coastal Valleys Special Weather Statement in effect
UNSETTLED WEATHER THROUGH THE WEEKEND.  A SERIES OF COLD FRONTS WILL MOVE ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA THIS WEEKEND BRINGING COOL AND UNSETTLED WEATHER TO THE REGION.  THE FIRST WEAK COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES THIS MORNING...  ON SATURDAY THE SECOND AND STRONGER FRONTAL SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA. STEADY RAIN... WILL SPREAD  INTO VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY BY LATE MORNING OR EARLY  AFTERNOON. BEHIND THIS FRONT SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT."

Is this what passes for a severe weather notice in SoCal??

Yes... A light sprinkle in SoCal has the same effect on traffic as an eight-inch blizzard in Chicago.  I wish I were exaggerating, but unfortunately I am not.

Ryan's take: Coe 42, Elmhurst 13
Keith's take: Coe 31, Elmhurst 21
Pat's take: Elmhurst 38, Coe 35

After seeing these hypotheses, my mind is in agreement with Keith.  I figure a close game with Coe prevailing by a slim margin. I don't think either team runs away with this game because they both lack in certain areas.

Ryan's take: Cal Lutheran 30, North Central 28
Keith's take: North Central 35, Cal Lutheran 34
Pat's take: North Central 35, Cal Lutheran 32

Interesting.  All 3 have this as a very tight moderately high scoring ballgame.  NCC DL/DBs better step up and keep that passing game in check!  And take care of the ball, boys!

my take is ncc will either blows out CLU(won't be able to stop the run ) or CLU wins in a close one.

I actually don't think there's much middle of the road on this one. Either NCC keeps their occasional turnover problems in check and they win by double digits or we see the turnover prone NCC and they lose by double digits.

Hoping for a NCC W.

Oh, I'm sure that Cal Lutheran will give them each a burger and Coke for holding the footballs on the sidelines all day. ;D
