Looks like Carthage is now looking for a new head football coach.  Don't know if this is health related but I wish Coach Rucks good luck with his new responsibilities.

Not sure what Stanek was reading with that ball that was picked off for the 73 yard INT.

NCC had trips to wide side of the field and all 3 WR's seemed to run 4-5 yard button hooks, then continued on "go routes" if the ball wasn't there immediately.  My guess (not knowing the scheme) is that Stanek was late in delivering the ball for the quick hook route.  The slot WR had already vacated the area when the ball was delivered (he had already continued the "go").  The Linfield LB bit hard on the short route.

While in the "what if" mindset, what if Stanek delivers on the go route to the same WR a half second later?

Easy for me to say in hindsight and with the benefit of seeing the video, but look at how the formation has Linfield spread out and there aren't many Linfield players in the box.  Seems a inside run (off tackle to the right) to a RB averaging nearly 8 yards per carry for the game would have had a better chance of succeeding - by no means a guarantee, but better chance.  Looks like a MLB was offset to the offensive left side to align with Kukuc, and in fact was blitzing & was picked up (he would not have helped stop the offtackle to the right play). Would have come down to man-on-man blocking and a tough RB plowing for a couple of yards.

Well, one of the complaints NCC fans have had about Stanek throughout his career is that he doesn't cycle through his options well. It appeared he decided where he was throwing the ball  pre-snap. I saw the WR break downfield as the play happened and he would have been so open.

The other option, as you noted, was that any running play straight ahead likely would have gotten a 1st down. Even a QB draw. Nice teaching points, but it's too late now.

The LB broke on the QB and not the route, IMO.  He also have the safety over the top.  If he would have pumped faked he still would have had a small window to deliver the ball.

True on the safety over the top and a small window, but he can't cover both slot WR's.  Regardless I would have looked to let it ride with the stud and take my chances with #32 (Kukuc) on an off-tackle play.

Easy for me to say in hindsight and as someone with no affiliation to the program, but that play call on 4th and 2 did not seem like the best possible option.

The first one is a terrible pass by Stanek. Not only was neither guy in the area ever open on their routes, he telegraphs it the whole way. No surprise that was an INT return.

The NCC DBs I would give much less blame to on the pass play because that's a heck of an escape by Inns, who really should have been sacked.

I agree for the most part. The TD pass; the DB's may have committed too early thinking Inns was going to tuck & run. The pick 6, wow! In watching the game live when he turned & looked I remember thinking "if he throws the ball that's an int"
