Congrats to Augie on a great season.  For every Augie fan reading this, us Wheaties feel your frustration - "if we had only...!"

Getting to the 2nd round of the playoffs is a good accomplishment and you pulled it off (without a passing game).  You done good!

Also, North Central ought to feel good about their experience this year.  They played a tough Capital team very well and racked up serious expereince for next year's run.

As strange as it might be, we are all cheering you on next week from Mount Union. Mostly because if you win, we play in Alliance. You lose we play at Delaware Valley. So you have our support, this week.

Hey Seventies, what's up with this post in the NJAC?

We would love to see you at Del Val and I promise we would be wonderful hosts!!!  Quite honestly, the field has a lot to be desired but hey, for those who play the game, they'd probably play on concrete if they had to.  It's the love of the game.

One game at a time - I just wanted to let you know that you would be more than welcome to visit the valley if circumstances will allow.  We have to get past Rowan first and I guess we'll find out this Saturday if it's meant to be.

Go Aggies!

Apparently this guy thinks MUC is in the CCIW - hey, maybe we ARE the #1 league! ;)

Why are they the Purple Raiders?

Yellow Jackets are bees, which have some yellow.

Then again, what is a Blue Devil?

What was the original intent of the Carthage's nickname?

markericson,

They are the Purple Raiders because the school's colors are Purple and White.  If the colors were green and gold, I suppose they would be the Green Raiders, or the Golden Raiders.  Now the Raider is actually a Pirate, although I have not seen the pirate image used since the '60's, but it explains the Cutlass in the Raider logo.  It also explains the large purple parrot on the side lines.

i'm not gonna be quick to say North Central will be my favorite for next year....they lose a lot more than just radtke........

from the offense
tyke spencer (#1 WR)
steve holden (starting RB)
tyler didier (#4 WR)
chuck earnest (#2 WR)
tyler bell (#5 WR)
brandon woodward (starting G)

defense
mike tenerelly (starting OLB)
ben hare (starting DE)
mario smith (starting CB)
zach pederson (starting DE)
seth livingston (starting DT)
lenny radtke (starting MLB)

i think that they'll be able to replace holden pretty well. and they do return 4 of the 5 O-line.....and 3 of the 4 secondary.....but they lost a lot. they'll need another reciever to step up and compliment stuedemann....and my feeling is that a couple players will step in and do just fine.....but that's just a feeling......which makes the recievers a big "?". i believe that the 6 defensive players they're losing are 6 of the 7 most talented on the D (bellazini being the other one).

so here are my main worries/questions for North Central heading to next year:

1) who will kam throw to and will they catch it?
2) will the D be able to generate an effective pass rush?
3) who framed roger rabbit?

also, radtke will be playing in the aztec bowl this year. congrats lenny!

I understand Spencer has another year of eligibility.

No offense goulet, one ncc fan to another. However, you are wrong on a couple of  facts you stated. 1) Woodward not the starting guard, didn't even play this year on the line. 2) Livingston I don't know that much about him but I do know he didn't play until North Park because of the starting d-tackle was hurt.

Stuedemann will be Kams #1 target. If you had a chance to see the playoff game there was a freshman that had a few good catches, I have a feeling there's some good WR that just didn't get a break bc of all the seniors in front of them.

Generating an effective pass rush will be a question losing the 2 starting ends is rough, but they are returning the two tackles, one of which led the CCIW in sacks and I believe is ranked nationally

I would say the loss of holden and the line backing core are big for the cards, those are some big shoes to fill.

From what we discussed on Saturday Pat, I think we're right on that Spencer will (and should get) 1 more year of eligibility.
Augie you have nothing to hang your heads about.. it was a great year moreso, because you exceeded people's expectations.
North Central had a great year also.  Capital is my sleeper team that I think is gonig to give Mt. Union a run for it's money.  That is a great Crusader squad.  After seeing Perkins Stadium Saturday Pat, I'm just in admiration of how beautiful that Stadium and University is.

I'm not sure that North Central should even be considered in the top 4 in the CCIW for next season. The losses are drastic, they need some players to step up big time next season. Don't kid yourself, Holden is a big loss.  The defensive losses are especially significant, and the defense wasn't overwhelming this season. Radtke was a 4 year starter - by his junior year you knew exactly what you would get from him. Tenerelli was a 3 year starter. And Smith was one of the best DBs in the conference. Dur to injuries, a lot of DBs got significant playing time but Smith was a strong player during his career. Hare earned a reputation in his junior year as a pass rusher, and teams had to include him in their game plan. I don't see another DE on the roster with the same pass rushing capabilities.

Augie is clearly the top dog. Look for Wheaton to come back strong. Elmhurst is coming up. Also, watch out for Illinois Wesleyan. Their whole season was affected with the death of their captain during camp. I expect them to play better next season.

The schedule for North Central does set up better next schedule with regards to travelling. Augie at home, Wesleyan at home. Millikin and Carthage away.

NCAA is deciding whether spencer will get another year and should have a decision before the 1st of the year

I feel that Spencer is such a talent that we should have him included in the CCIW.  I feel, that the more talent you have at all 8 schools, the better.  That makes each week a dogfight and the W's all that more gratifying.

I got sucked into missing the bash game and going to the mount-augie game. a few notes on the game.

Either the wing T just can't cut it anymore, or mounts D is amazing, cause aside from maybe 2 drives, augie really didnt move the ball very well.

On another note, this kmic kid from mount, he is the real deal.  It helps when you have a hole big enough to drive a mac truck through, but even so, he made a job out of making the augie backers and DB's miss.

another note on the game, augie went for it on every fourth down, or maybe punted one time. I think when your at the 50 and your only down 6 points, or even 13, you gotta try to pin them deep, they gave mount great field position all game long, and that killed their defense.

on the topic of punting, special teams had trouble all game long, mount missed an X-point, several kickoff coverage break downs. and augies coach put their kicker in to try a 40 yard field goal, into the wind, in close to freezing temperatures. you can't do that to the kid. Kickers have it hard already,  40 yards, into the wind, in freezing temps.. Pros miss kicks like that, let alone d3 kickers.

but I have to give it to augie, they fought till the end, they were just overmatched.

Hope to make it to cap-MUC this weekend. Wish is was in c-ville, but what can ya do ?

ryder posted this on the NCAC board. i took the liberty of copying it to cciw board for response.

ryder-augie gained just about their average in yards v muc and over 50% of the yards muc was averaging per game (5.5x more than their avg per game on the ground). MUC's defense created some turnovers, which were huge but this game was won by the mt union offense and specifically their oline. they had 1 rb that outgained the entire augie team!

on the 4th down's you referred to, i believe augie made all of the 4th downs when the game was that close. they just turned it over later in the drive. muc didn't care about field position, their rb was getting 9+ yds per carry and he was a freshman backup!.
