A football lifer calls his kid T.D.  Nice.  The son also has baseball skills!  (Calling Coach Johnson.)

He's well aware of T.D. Conway's baseball abilities, Mark. Luke Johnson was on the search committee that hired Mike Conway.

Quote from: markerickson on August 09, 2013, 10:24:53 PMGet ready to run, T.D.

If the right guys return, the O-line might actually be a strong point for NPU. That's especially true in light of what I've heard about how hard the 40 returnees have worked in the off-season.

Quote from: markerickson on August 09, 2013, 10:24:53 PMCirca 2005 NP had a 6' 5" QB with a strong arm named Mike Haehn who had a precarious life behind the O-Line.

And, like T.D. Conway, Haehn was an impressive multi-sport physical specimen. What I'm hoping is that Conway has a better head on his shoulders than Haehn had.

Quote from: markerickson on August 09, 2013, 10:24:53 PMHopefully Krebs will become the DIII version of Wes Welker!  Conway will definitely need that type of outlet.

Let's not forget that Dakota Conway was a D2 scholarship player as well. He should be a very good target at WR for his younger brother this coming season. NPU had a number of experienced guys last season who are potential 2013 returnees who could be good receivers; John Barnabee, Chris Broadway, Marcel Dawkins, Dominic Schiavo, Nick Weinstein, and Bryan Lorman all come to mind.

Fall Camp is finally upon us!

Two CCIW-focused articles c/o Suburban Life:

This one on new Head Coach Joe Adam:

This one on the CCIW drawing on local talent (you need a password to read this whole article):

From the Coach Adam article, I found this quote particularly encouraging:

How has the program changed since you joined in 2007?

It was a very much different culture. This is a complete 180. It's enjoyable. It's fun to challenge people and the kids have responded. I give a lot of credit to our kids here. They work like no other group in any level of football I've coached.

It should be noted = Coach Adam has two National Championship rings from Grand Valley State.

Indeed I think Adam is a great choice for HC and he will continue to meld players into great Bluejay talent.

IMO- The entire talent pool changed when Thorne came to NC followed by Lester coming to EC.  When L-Ghost, Bluejay4Ever and I played,  there were many kids from FL and other areas, not necessarily the Chicago Metro Area which made me scratch my head many times, wondering why they aren't focusing on the local schools.

Just as an aside, Mrs. matblake had back surgery yesterday.  The surgeon was pleased with the results.  We've got a long road ahead, so if I'm not around as much this fall please hold the cheering down to a dull roar.  ;D  If you are the praying type, we'll take all of those that we can get.

Devising an offense that hands the ball to the eventual DIII POY lands you a job as a QB coach at a DI school?

No,but having coached with the new head coach at a different D1 school might do the trick.

Scott Pethtel has been hired by the Brookstone School in Columbus, GA, an independent private high school, to serve as an assistant coach on the football and track teams and as a part-time athletic administrator. He'll also be teaching a couple of weightlifting classes, and his wife Cyndy will be a teaching assistant at the school. It's great to hear that they've found a new place to start over where they can both be a part of the school.
