College of DuPage has a new coaching staff this year.  Head Coach Matt Foster has brought in several assistants from his NCC days:
Asst. Head Coach - Bill Wienke
Linebackers Coach - Scott Skuteris
Strength & Conditioning Coach - Derek Sulo
There's a nice article about Derek on p. 17 of the 10/9/13 issue of the COD newspaper:  http://issuu.com/codcourier/docs/01_cover__dragged__901daebc9db1e0?e=1717858/5157938

IWU/North Park kickoff pushed to 2:30 PM due to problems with the North Park bus.  Personally, I'm guessing this is NP's way of getting back at IWU for the basketball team's uniform debacle last winter.  :)

No, not really. There's a difference between random malfunction and outright negligence. If NPU was trying to get back at IWU in tit-for-tat manner, then it'd be a matter of "forgetting" to put gas in the tank, or of knowingly renting a bus that doesn't have a transmission.

Carthage and Wheaton are under a lightning delay in the second quarter at Keller Field in Kenosha, with Wheaton up, 7-0.

This makes two weeks in a row that the Carthage football team has had to deal with a lightning delay.

Wheaton 28
Carthage 0

Roberts 21-32 191 yds 1 TD
Geary 21 rush 120 yds 2 TDs
Geary 7 rec 57 yds
Wheaton 435 yds total offense
11 penalties 89 yds

Carthage 8 yds rushing
257 total yds

Wheaton's defense dominated this game again despite a 45 minute lighning delay for the second week in a row. They kept Carthage from crossing midfield except for 1x in the second half and the Redmen had 127 total yds when the backups entered.

Wheaton's offense has yet to find a groove despite their apparent productivity. Injuries and penalties are really killing them. No Charlie Velling today but Jesse Geary responded with 179 total yds to lead the offense. Grayson Roberts did also did not play and may be out for awhile. Wheaton hasn't found a consistent rotation amongst their thin group at receiver and it has hurt the passing game.

The Thunder are home next Saturday against Elmhurst before travelling to Bloomington in 2 weeks to fact the Titans.

The injuries have definitely decimated the receiving squad.  Hopefully we get players back before the Illinois Wesleyan game.
Any news on Luke Thorson who hasn't dressed in a while but still on the roster?

I knew that NPU was going to lose big today, but it was discouraging to see the Vikings basically out of the game by the end of the first quarter. The Titans owned the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball today, and the greenies did whatever they wanted whenever they wanted on offense.

T.D. Conway ended with a nice stat line, going 19-33 for 300 yards passing with three TDs and no picks, but all three touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter against the IWU scrubs and didn't mean much of anything, aside from giving him and the rest of the NPU offense something encouraging to take away from the day.

I really wanted NPU just to get through this one healthy, more or less, but I was hoping for a better showing from the Vikings than they gave today. They were not the least bit competitive. And next week against North Central should prove even worse. Just gotta suck it up and hope they get through next week without any serious injuries; after that, they play a three-game stretch against Augie, Elmhurst, and Millikin in which they have a chance to be more competitive.

One thing NPU absolutely HAS to fix is kickoff coverage.  On four kickoffs, IWU got 225 yards! :o

Yes, a happy Homecoming today for the Titans, feasting on the Parkers.  The game was over in the first quarter with IWU up 28-zip.  Devonte Jones another monster game with 166 yards, monster return yardage, and some beautiful exploisive running.  Great to see the Titans more balanced in the run-pass balance.  Gallik had a pretty good day too, and Alex Garvey with 2 TDs.  First string D played well, then in came the 2nd, even 3rd units to play much of the second half, surely all the 4th quarter.  The Titans are getting better, esp. special teams today.  Yes, return yardage by Chechin and Devonte Jones was pretty awesome.  Could have been two more outright TDs on those runbacks, too.

Building momentum to face the big, big games coming up with WC and NCC @home.

Am a bit surprised Augie has won today.

Great to see so so many friends and classmates back on campus.  IWU does a nice job with Homecoming and the spirit was good.  We dodged any ran, so the weather was a blessing too.

It's hard to fix kickoff coverage when neither of the kickers you've used can get the ball deeper than the 20-yard line. It means that, basically, the kick returner hits the wedge at the same time that the defenders hit it, giving the defenders little chance to draw a bead on the returner and/or box him in.

Unless NPU soccer coach John Born wants to lend Mike Conway somebody who's got a big leg, the shallow-kickoff problem is going to be a chronic one this season.
