Can someone clarify -- is not "taunting" considered an unsportsmanlike penalty?

IWU70
Maybe, but there is quite a bit of taunting going on between players during the game. This is straight from the horses mouth. ;)

I looked up the rules, and the short answer appears to be yes.

The question I have is whether the referee issued a warning (as was reported), or assessed unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on every single player in uniform (which has also been reported)?  It would be the first time I have witnessed a game in which over 150 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were called in the game (much less before kick off).  And, if that is the case look at the video---there are probably 100 or so kids who didn't deserve their penalty.  Which begs the question, don't the rules require that the player commit the foul to be given the penalty?  Either way, whether our learned friend in a stripe shirt called all the penalties, or didn't follow the ejection rule, which is automatic by my understanding, it is just another example of what was a poorly officiated game.  I sure as heck hope that the crew that did the game will we somewhere other than Wheaton on Saturday!!

iwu70

Kovo, I was there when the initial flag was thrown, just along the sidelines in the SW corner of Wilder Field, and the initial announcement made, and the ref gave "unsportmanlike" to both teams, fully, for all the guys on the field in the initial confrontation, and in his announcement of the penalty he specially said that any further "unsportmanlike" infraction by any player would lead to ejection.  Again, I'm just reporting what I saw, what I heard.  And, on the Stanek personal foul, the lead ref again announced the penalty and said it was for "taunting."

Yes, indeed, you would be well-served if this particular officiating crew was assigned elsewhere this coming Saturday, not at the Wheaton-North Central game.

Again, as per my link to the NCAA website last night, there are two distinct penalties of this type on the books now, one in dead-ball situations (a la the logo dustup) and a live-ball foul (which may have been what Stanek was called for). And, again, the Illinois Wesleyan statistical PBP does not indicate that the penalty called on Stanek was an unsportsmanlike-conduct infraction, while it does indicate that the pregame penalties were unsportsmanlike-conduct calls.

Love it. My favorite post since Saturday's games.

Also, go Cardinals bring home the "Bell".

Love the moving "dead horse" message.  Is that "honest Abe" whacking that old grey mare?  (No comments please, I'm color blind).

Congrats to the weekly CCIW honorees.

Its from one of Gregs post on the Michigan Board.  Us lesser mortals borrow from Greg to look as intelligent as him.  But I'm just spaying Rust-Oleum on a Ford Pinto.

Can it be true that the Bears are beating the Pack tonight @Lambeau.  Mike Ditka was right . . .

This game is bigger than statistics and Wheatons 4th down percentage conversion advantage probably wont mean much.  Just saying. ::) :o

Don't forget you get to come back to Wheaton next year also. ;D  Just reminding you in case you forget. :P

Stats for informational purposes only Go Thunder.

As far as going coming to Wheaton again next year, its no big deal. Only 20 minutes from NCC so its like having another home game.  :D

Also, we seem to play our best there. It's great being at the friendly confines of Wheaton's stadium. Can't wait.
The "Bell" is coming home!! ;D
