USee:

The Wheaton Thunder and their fans can be very proud of Day for his kicking yesterday in the Aztec Bowl--he was A-1, perfect!

congrats to cciw folks in the aztec bowl:

lenny radtke had a pick for a TD to go w a couple sacks and 4 tackles
andrew day kicked 6 xtra pts and a fg
zeifert wasn't mentioned in the box score (surprise)
JR Bishop from wheaton officially coached his "last" game

USA won 53-15. here is the link to the box score.

Zeifert wasn't mentioned because Greg Cozzi wasn't there to lateral to him for a TD. ;)

Actually, he was credited with a tackle (on special teams, I'm presuming).

Re: Aztec Bowl

Wow, 53 points and only two offensive touchdowns.

The USA defense and special teams were amazing--"like chickens on a june bug!"  Through the efforts of Radtke, Day, and  Zeifert, the CCIW was very well represented in the Aztec Bowl.  Great job.

I posted this on the WIAC site, but do any of you know what they did in terms of end of the season/champions prior to the 1973 season and the modern Championship formats?  I know Elmhurst didn't have a playoff game after their 1978 and 1980 championships.

I played for Reade and Co.  in the late 80's early 90's and the 4 straight winning seasons and Nat Champs is unreal (plus all the other years where we only lost 1 game the entire season)!  However, my hat goes to Mount Union - what a powerhouse football program!  I watched the game and they are well coached and well rounded.  Some of those years I played with Reade, I just wished we had somewhat of a passing game and we may have won one.  My neighbor plays for MU - Derrick Blanchard #75 and he's one lucky SOB!   There was some big boys on those O and D lines!

I will also say - Division 1 needs to (has to) change to  a playoff system!  They all should follow the D3 playoff system.

I thought ESPN did a decent job showing the game.  The challenges that I initailly didn't want in the game were done in a quick timely matter that didn't mess with the flow of the game.  It was nice to see the replays, and it had the feeling of a D1 game.  Although I wasn't very interested in watching WW's kicker pedal on a stationary bike for over a minute at the beginning of the game.

Regarding the comment that they didn't mention Augie's 4 straight nat. championships:

I thought ESPN could have very easily mentioned the streak during halftime when they had the top 5 players to play in the NFL. Too bad Ken Anderson couldn't come back for another degree.  Maby it will just have to wait till next year if USC beats Texas, then all during next season they can compare USC to Augie instead of MT. Union.

Regarding the comment that they didn't mention Augie's 4 straight nat. championships:

No offense to augie fans but I don't think it needed to be metioned, I mean yeah it was great and all. Nobody is saying it wasn't a great achivement, it happened 20 years ago. I think espn did a great job on the nat. championship game. I agree with another poster that said they should of had a post game wrap-up.

Gotta agree with Shark on this one. There really wasn't much occasion to mention Augie's streak. Although I agree that the USC streak is more comparable to Augustana than to Mt. Union at this point. If the Trojans are still winning championships regularly 10 or 15 years from now the Mt. Union analogy will be more appropriate. Also, I remember Bill Curry doing color on the '86 title game and was just as complimentary of Augie then as he is of Mt. Union today.

formerd3db- Thanks, I took the logo from the Elmhurst website.  Hope you have a great Holiday... The Bowls start up this week and can't wait.  I still say Northern should have made a bowl! :o

Redmen96

Ok does anyone want to guess what the standings for next year in the CCIW will be?
We will always be REDMEN

zorbadagreek

Auggie 9-1
Wheaton 8-2
North Central 6-4
Carthage 6-4
Millikin 5-5
Elmhurst 5-5
Wesleyan 3-7
North Park 3-7

Now my disclaimer is going to be that anything and everything could happen over the Summer Months, so this is a wild stab.
Augustana 9-1  (6-1)
Wheaton 8-2 (5-2)
Elmhurst 8-2   (5-2)
North Central 7-3 (4-3)
Carthage 7-3 (4-3)
5)Millikin   6-4    (3-4)
6)IWU  4-6     (2-8)
North Park 2-8 (0-7)

Again, anything can happen over the Summer and hopefully nothing as tragic as what happened this past Summer with IWU.  I see the CCIW as open as it has ever been with anybody having a great chance at the top 2 slots.
