Bethel hangs on. Wartburg tackled at the 6 as time expires. NCC @Bethel next week. Bethel's starting qb was in an arm sling. But the backup threw for 2 TD's and looked pretty good.

Incredible effort by the offensive line at NCC!  Kent had an amazing day running the football and Stanek had all day to throw.  UWP was a very good team but couldn't stop the run.  Not sure if there's any chance to host next week, but Cardinals playing very well.  Good to get a couple of guys back from injury today.  Platteville traveled very well.  Big crowd for them.  Good crowd for NCC considering the students are gone for Winter break.

Alum, I agree that it was a good crowd for UWP, but 53 of the 99 kids on their roster are from Illinois, including Alex Schaefer from Naperville Central.

I visited family in Mpls this holiday.  One local network featured Bethel's head coach and also the team during one evening broadcast.  The news mentioned the injury to the Bethel QB who was named MOP of the MIAC this year.  I will demand my dad attend the game.

Why does NCC travel to Bethel?

Kudos to NCC!

One Mpls Star+Tribune sports columnist offers an annual "Turkey of the Year Award."  Terry Ryan, Twins GM, won it this year.  Interestingly, the president of St. Johns in Collegeville, MN, was a nominee for his comment regarding the retirement of college football's winningest coach, John Gagliardi.  What do you think of the comment?  Quite a slap in the face to the coach, ya think?  Another nominee was Grinnell's coach.

Michael Hemesath, president, St. John's University: Hemesath marked the departure of John Gagliardi after 60 seasons in Collegeville by saying: "Obviously, I understand winning is much more fun than losing for our athletes. But I'm not obsessed with building a winning program." A beautiful sentiment from the St. John's boss as the search was underway to replace the winningest coach in the history of college football.

David Arsenault, men's basketball coach, Grinnell College: This is the sportsman who thinks it's quite a giggle to have his star, Jack Taylor, score over 100 points against hapless, tiny Christian schools with the manpower of so-so high school teams.

According to info posted in the MIAC room. it appears the Bethel QB probably suffered a separated shoulder, and will not be available next Sat. However, I don't believe this has been confirmed for sure as yet.

Pardon my ignorance, but, as markerickson asked above, why does NCC have to travel to Bethel? Thank you

nccfac

NCC likely travel to Bethel is due to SOS (strength of schedule) and wins against ranked teams. Bethel's SOS was .574 for the 7th toughest in D3, NCC was .501 for 112th toughest. Both had at least 2 wins against regionally ranked opponents (RRO) and maybe 3 for Bethel if St. Johns is also included. Do not know the wins over RRO since the final rankings are secret. Why? Who knows! Just like they won't tell us the seedings but everyone is quite aware what they are. Doesn't matter, if we play well I'm sure all will be good.

Thanks nccfac.
If the Cards avoid TOs and penalties it certainly seems like they'll be hard to beat.

Bethel hosts because they are deemed to be the higher seed.  If NCC prevails, a trip to Alliance is most likely the reward.

Unless I'm misreading the NCAA website... it appears that Bethel will be traveling to Naperville next week. I didn't expect that....

Probably not. If you're reading the top team listed as the #1 seed, because it also shows SJF would host UMHB and I'm sure that is not happening. I thought the top four seed were Mount, UMHB, UWW and Bethel.

If the game is in Naperville, at least there will be a good field to play on.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Take a look at these pairings and let me know who you think is at home.  Also go back and look how the pairings were presented the last two weeks as well...

from that bracket it does look that way, but again why would they take away home field advantage from the #1 seed? Very interesting.

Very interesting development 48.  Don't buy your plane tickets to Minneapolis just yet.
