1. Look at NCC's results/stats and tell me they will be a double digit underdog to any team. Especially to a team whose starting QB probably won't be available. Sorry, but this is simply not realistic and ain't happenin'

2. With regard to game location, NCC's own football web site shows the game will be played in MN.

http://northcentralcardinals.com/schedule.aspx?path=football

3. Curious about the status of Bethel QB Erik Peterson, I did some checking and located an article from the St. Paul Pioneer press in which Royals Coach Steve Johnson said "It is a separated shoulder at best." He will have an MRI tomorrow. Again, refer back to #1. Playing with a separated shoulder?
The article also indicates the Bethel was the #1 seed.

I know NCC's results and stats as well as anyone.  Clearly, you are missing my point.  Oh well.  Looking forward to the game on Saturday.  It's gonna be cold... better pack the long underwear.  Go Cards!

Appreciate it all you want in your own mind.  NCC is decidedly not an underdog this week. This is a pickem with a healthy Bethel QB.

Can't hit the nail any more squarely on the head than that. "With a healthy Bethel QB."

Scrubby

1) field is hard as a rock from what I've been told by son-in-law (Bethel's advantage as they know from both mental and physical standpoint what to expect and deal with)

2) forecast will be awful from sounds of things!  Double deep frost on the ground and even harder than a rock!!

3) North Central has been ranked the entire year in front of BU, double digit favorite by BU, no way!

4) QB is without question what makes BU go. Are they good without him, YES!  Great with him, absolutely!!

Bring your hard hat and steal toe spikes, it's going to be that type of game.

Oh, there will be injuries for sure, if not the normal way, that field is going to beat both teams up!!

Regardless of the location, the timing of a certain QB injury makes NCC even more sure in my mind.  Should be a good game, but I would guess NCC was a TD favorite even before the injury.

I respect your opinion but I don't see it that way.  From what I've seen Bethel has an outstanding team. I don't see the QB situation having a big impact.  Taking into account the weather, field conditions, travel, etc. I think NCC has to be a double digit underdog in this game.  But I'm sure our boys will make it a competitive contest... and maybe even pull off an upset :)

It should be a great game! Go Cards!!

Unless I'm missing something, it would seem the weather and the field conditions will be the same for both teams. I do give Bethel points for the effect the travel may have on the Cards, but not as many points as Bethel actually loses on account of their QB being out.  ;)

"C'mon man!"

I think whether or not NCC wins depends on the Defense.  They can not give up as many yards as they did against either Wheaton or Platteville

The defense will be fine.
Barring injury to any key players, TWO things can beat the Cardinals:
1. Turnovers
2. Penalties

I hope your right but we need to see more from them down the road than we have against the last few rated teams they played.  I think Coach Thorne will have them mentally prepared enough not to make many mental errors reducing penalties and turnovers

Scrubby, thank you for the insights.  I am looking forward to a great game and experience.  I should remind you of one thing -- the Cardinals are from the Chicago area; not Belton, Texas.  Game time conditions in Naperville last week are exactly what we expect next weekend in Arden Hills -- 30 mph wind, a wind chill at zero or below, etc.  I have my long underwear ready!!

I think the early line in this game is NCC -5.5

I disagree. I think that three things can beat the Cardinals:

1. Turnovers
2. Penalties
3. Bethel

I think that NCC is the favorite in this game, but give the hosts some credit. The Royals didn't get to the national quarterfinals on their good looks. ;)

Bethel is not flashy. They are seriously blue collar. Fundamentally sound, very physical, and efficient. They very rarely beat themselves and if you make mistakes, they will kill you. Hard to hit big plays as they really tackle well from the secondary and they cover the deep ball as well as anyone. offensively they have a slew of big, physical receivers and a strong O-Line.

This will be a really physical game, even by CCIW standards.
