NPU has not pushed past any CCIW program, including Augie and Millikin.

I agree, if we're talking long-term trends. As I said to Langhorst_Ghost, program status is something that's established over a period of several years, and NPU has only had one year of competence thus far. Again, this is going to be a season in which NPU is trying to prove that 2013 wasn't just a fluke.

Nevertheless, just looking at the prospects for this coming season, NPU has to be viewed as the favorite at the moment in the upcoming October 25 contest against Millikin. But October 25 (which is North Park's Homecoming) is a long way away, and a lot can change between now and then.

I will be very interested to see how NPU fares I it's opener.  They boast 17+ transfers! which is the biggest mystery piece.  NCC made its ove to relevance early in Thornes era with several well publicized transfers.  If you are good at it, that can catapult a program.  It can also derail a program.  17 is a lot. Presumably there are more than a couple impact players in that group which could have a major impact on NPUs fortunes this fall. If they get 2-4 players with TD and Dakotasabilities, NPU could be better than most think.

Two players listed on the NPU roster T.D. and Dakota Conway appear to be brothers (could be cousins, I suppose), and must be transfers.  I am familiar with Western Pa. football.  They are listed as being from Pittsburgh Pa/California.  Both played their h.s. football at California,  a town south of Pittsburgh a good distance, and both were on last year's California U. of Pa. football roster.  California is a Division II program and has had some success in recent years.

They are bothers, and the sons of the (new last year) NPU coach.  They played for NPU last season and were phenomenal.  NPU had not won a conference game since approximately the McKinley administration, but won three last year.

9 guys from American Samoa?!

Ten. I think that one of them attended a high school here in the States.

My task as broadcaster for the next few weeks is to practice saying, "Taeao manuia!", which is "Good morning!" in Samoan. Since every game but the opener is at 1 pm, all of my Samoan listeners -- and I'm pretty sure that there will be a lot of them -- will be tuning in for the games at 7 am on Saturday mornings.

Thanks, Ypsi.  I grew up about 30 miles from California, Pa, and still try to follow W.P.I.A.L football.  Now, I have a reason to look for the NPU results this year.

WR Dakota Conway, a rising junior, was an All-CCIW first-teamer last season. T.D. Conway, a rising sophomore, was an All-CCIW second-teamer -- not an easy thing to do as a freshman quarterback. T.D. broke the NPU season records for completions and passing yardage.

Their father, North Park head coach Mike Conway, was the defensive coordinator for California (PA) and was one of the key architects of that program's success in the D2 ranks before he took over at NPU 18 months ago.
